Godzilla 2017 anime (likely to drop 2018, but eh, minor details.)

So, we (and by we, i mean those of us following this bit of news) all knew it would be CGI, it was announced as such from day 2, maybe even day 1, but i wasn't actually there day 1. the animation to me looks pretty good, and this is the studio that made Knights of Sidonia, and Aijin, so their animation record as far as CGI goes, is definitely on track. we don't know too much more than: humans were driven from the earth by the kaiju, namely godzilla, and in this particular timeline, godzilla is far larger, and likely far stronger, than any godzilla to this date (including burning godzilla and shin godzilla). the planet that humanity fled to is simply uninhabitable for humans, and so they have launched a mission to reclaim the earth from the king of the monsters. Our MC, Haru is the unlucky bloke with a hate-boner for godzilla the size of king kong who'll be undertaking this mission, alongside his plucky and colorful cast of comrades, all of whom (hopefully) boast the skills to make it in this new, hostile territory, and reclaim what was once their spot, at the top of the food chain.

that being said, my own opinion is that this anime will be pretty good, but criminally underrated.

[spoiler=my reasons are as follows:]

1) the studio in charge, has already demonstrated that they are capable of fluid CG animation, and has done so consistently over the past few years, so visually jarring scenes (at least those due to terrible use of CGI), are not of any concern to me. in addition, i would like a 2d anime of godzilla, but let's be honest here, you and i both know that even if we got a 2D animation of godzilla, it would still be likely to heavily use CGI on the king of monsters, and i don't know about you, but 3DCG in a 2D anime, outside of rare exceptions (like yugioh anime) is simply far more distracting than a true 3D anime.

2) the monsters are what we came for, and be it 2D or 3D, this is godzilla's first true step into the japanese anime scene. america has had 2 godzilla cartoons, both of which were pretty good for their time, and for what they were, this will be yet another industry that godzilla's foot lands upon, and i have little doubt that it will be the best foot forward.

3) for whatever reason, and it may just be me, but i can't imagine godzilla as a 2D monster. yes, i know he's been in an animated series twice now, but even those didn't quite have the "godzilla" feel, make no mistake, i liked them, but put simply, godzilla is simply too grounded in 3D (as far as his character) to really hold the same presence in 2D. not that it couldn't be done, but it feels to me, that every single animation issue in 2D, due to his standard existence in 3D, would be magnified tenfold for me, and i simply would not want something like that ruining such a series.

4) my opinion, is slightly less than poplar, i've seen a lot of complaints about him being in a 3D anime, and i do kind of fear that this will hurt the anime in it's new views, having the fanbase be so divided over it. which may in turn lead to it being far less popular than it could be.

all that said, this is a monster movie, i hope that the plot, and the non-monster characters are not one-sided, but that still falls on the backburner, the monsters make the movie, and i like what i've seen so far of the designs, and the world, so as long as we get at least KoS quality animation, and a respectable amount of battles and development, i'll be pretty happy.

discuss.

After Kado I'm quite willing to see more works with CGI (granted Kado ended really shittily but that's not a visual problem). Is this the one Urobuchi's writing? Pretty sure I read up somewhere it was and I'd like to see butch's attempt at a godzilla film alright.

urobuchi's writing it? these characters are gonna die horribly.
