Sakura answers questions and gives opinions

Recommended Posts

Night is the sexy one in appearance; well, at least he's the only one out of the mods who posts selfies. Rest of us don't; I have no clue of how the other mods look like, except maybe Smear.

But even then, having good looks doesn't mean you'll get it. There's a lot more; then again, it's a partially thankless job if you get it. You can't really use it on a resume.

I absolutely thought you meant being a boyfriend was a thankless job, now I feel like an idiot.

Thank you for being a mod, sakura

You're technically a retired mod at this time (though you're more than welcome to come back once stuff clears up), but yeah, I know what you look like, least from pics in that thread.

Was more on the lines of "I have no idea how evilfusion/Flame/Zai/Gadjiltron look like, or even Zex/Nai since no pics, or they're sandwiched in that thread and would take a very long time to find them." Black posted a few pics of self at points in time, Yui had one a while back (think it's still accurate, but yeah) and I technically posted one in 2014 if you can find it.

zai posted a pic like yesterday. Just ignore the chemical burns and you will know what he usually looks like.

What are your thoughts on the most recent archetypes (weathery, magibullet, crawlers, i don't know if there are more)? Do you plan to build any of them?

I haven't been looking at that thread lately, but yeah, he did post a pic.

As for the other question, I plan on testing them out, at least whatever I do with YGOPro's limitations. (While I do have a beta version for Links, that one has some bugs in 1v1 mode [least in terms of testing ability], and desktop one is somewhat outdated [or the functions don't work properly].) Magibullet might be workable, but others like Weathery / Crawlers and some other VRAINS-era stuff might not; unless I modify them to use zero Links.

For them as a whole (from the DBSW / CIBR stuff):

  • Magibullet: I was watching a replay of them, and yeah, they are nuts. Might be fun to play with, but I have to try it out on my own. (Was a Invoked hybrid though, so...)
  • Weathery: They have the potential to be annoying, but so far, they only have 2 Main Deck to work with, and the boss is still Archetype restricted. Until they get their full members released (at least for the pack itself), idk. Think they have some more.
  • Crawlers: At least Konami tried to make a competent Insect deck after that last one (referring to Digital Bugs, not Inzektors; those were fine), but still need testing.
  • Shadow Six Sams: Wasn't really a 6Sam player to begin with, even when Synchro Shi-En was running around.
  • Altergeist: Still requires an external engine to function for the most part; finding it difficult to field enough monsters to make their boss or any Link tech in general.
  • Metaphys: This one is kinda fun, but relying on Ragnarok for NSable stuff (and other stuff like Lightray / Snow techs for added summoning kinda sucks). Tyrant Dragon is nice in a way though [i haven't tested the new 3K monster yet]. Since current YGOPro has a few of its functions shot, a lot of them don't banish properly [least the forced one at the end of the turn].

(I'd rather not use DuelingBook because it's usually the same guys as DN, and I avoid it because of bug issues and the playerbase there. For the most part, a lot of the CIBR decks that I want to test either require Links to be functional or are screwed over, and I don't think DevPro works on Linux [need to check])

To be fair, that user in TCG did say Digital Bugs were forgettable considering the Xyz had xenophobic conditions (well, asking for LIGHT Insects isn't helping, even with the Rank-Up clause). Don't recall anyone using them, least after a good while.

I would try out F.A. but not enough cards to make them live right now (unless you want to be totally reliant on Prix and Downforce to make their Levels go up). Will need to see if they get at least 1 more card, or the first five slots in the exclusives go to that Ritual-based one that Konami will make the money Deck. I'll give an opinion on those when we get them.

Also bump, I guess.

Do you play Roblox and do you play Pokemon Brick Bronze on Roblox?

No on both.

Looking forward to the coming school semester?  Speaking of which, how are your classes going?

1. For right now, yeah. Only concerns are likely if the professors teaching are going to be hardasses or decent. Two of them are guys I had in the past, whereas other two are unknown (and I don't have much on them except for reviews on RateMyProfessor).

2  I spent 6 weeks in summer school doing Dynamics, which I needed to pass to take the bigger engineering courses (I have passed that, so now I can actually start doing stuff). I don't know what happened with statics that required multiple shots to pass (I could've been a lot closer to finishing if the 2nd guy answered his email ON TIME and I could see my exam because I just missed the bar, or the 3rd one answering his email period.)

So yeah, I can finally stop emailing advisor that my progression plans are going to be on neutral; least for now. But I have a long way to go, looking at my schedule.

====

Next semester:

  • Fundamentals of Transportation (idk, I guess analyze why the roads get bust up, how the traffic lights and stuff determine when to let cars go). T
  • Fluid Mechanics (I'm going to assume it is regular statics/dynamics with differential equations to account for resistance in liquid; i.e. why stuff gets slowed down in water, etc.).
    • Remember one lab in general physics where we dropped balls in machine oil. Might be something similar, but I'm just taking guesses.
  • Mechanics of Materials: Likely something about how certain materials break more easily or something.
  • Ethnic Studies Fieldwork: This basically means "Twice per week: Go to the regular class and view the lectures given on Japanese Americans in this state. Once per week: Lead a class using said lectures from the first two days, then discuss ethical principles related to situations."
    • Still waiting for professor to email me back on more specifics, since I did fill out an application for it and had interview. I took him last semester for ethnic studies (same course that I'm going to have to be in charge of each Friday). I passed that one without issue.
    • Technically, lab leader or less glorified/unpaid version of a TA. This is for credit (and keeps me as a fulltime student); might as well do something with Ethnic Studies since I took ES 330 for the ethics requirement.

I would've liked to be close to graduating, but a lot of things have prevented those, including:

  • Aforementioned setbacks: Some of them are likely my fault for not getting help more and/or understanding the material, some are likely due to professor / TA being legitimately terrible regardless (which are mostly on the cores and the aforementioned statics stuff). And yeah, I evaluated those instructors harsh enough during the evals or on rating sites.
  • UH is terrible at having enough classes at appropriate times: Some classes are only one section, in a particular semester only AND have time conflicts with other courses that students need to take. It would be nice if more than one section were available, but let's assume that either university doesn't have money to get (competent) professors to handle courses at that time, and/or lack of large enough classrooms available when needed.

(Then again, a lot of stuff I'm saying about the university is technically unethical, but it is true and even some of my TAs mentioned their faults [i had a couple professors who made slight remarks as well.])

How would you like a Pokémon archetype?

*hem* TypEvo *hem*

Preferably one that can actually survive in Zoo/True King/Link format. Ideally, it should keep SOME of the original mechanics (or retain the Pokemon's abilities / movepool). However, there is a fine line between keeping true to the original mechanics and having this actually survive; find a balance between the two.

Granted, I have seen a few of them in CC but nearly all in Casual because they go too much on the former, and that's strictly copying the Level Up mechanic. (On that note, Dark Lucius/Allure Queen were shitty due to forcing people to run the entire set; Silent Magician at least has Level-Up support and the rest vary from being passable to good [black Flame]).

In general, I'm likely one of the few people who even makes Advanced-level Pokemon cards (albeit on a limited basis), though there've been others. (I tend to do more single cards and have them based on abilities and how they can handle the meta).

===

tl;dr, make them competitive, but retain some of their abilities and stuff.

Probably just going to make an archetype themed around Special Summoning. Don't worry, you won't have to run a full set of any evolution chains (like Allure Queen does).

Do you think it would be overkill if all the TypEvolegend Synchro monsters required specific Tuners? (DNA Test Tube, Tome of the Weather Trio)

Likely yes.

I have made certain Pokes into Synchro Monsters, but at worst, they just have non-generic non-Tuners; you can use any Tuner you want.

Opinion of myself? b/c apparently i have not posted here

Also thoughts on YGO as of yet?

Opinion

You have a tendency to overreport things in general; while we do appreciate members actually reporting stuff instead of spamming / mini-moderating, etc, there's been a couple things that were reported that would be classified as permissible. That, and sometimes jumping to conclusions about stuff before looking (and PMing people about it).

Thoughts on the game

[spoiler=Because I'm writing an essay grilling Konami decisions]

Links

I'm still iffy about why Konami thought it'd be a good idea to introduce yet ANOTHER summon mechanic that forced a field change, however I'm open to using them. If I hated them 100%, I wouldn't have made the Link game and actually produced stuff in there.

With that being said, I like to consider Links as more intrusive on the ED compared to Fusion/Synchro/Xyz. Whereas the latter three are "Don't want to play with us? That's fine, it won't kill you", Links are "if you want to ED, either you use us or hope you can ladder fast / sit on one boss".

I'm still trying to think of ways that Links could've been done that would not force the field to be modified (even with retaining some of their markers), but in the end, the way it's set up now provides the optimal potential.

Also stuff about "why are they BLUE, when we already got Rituals taking that color in a lighter tone"; red / dark brown / silver would've been better to differentiate between stuff and latter actually would give more of a circuit board feel.

===

Lack of generic Links where they actually matter still sucks.

===

Game as a whole (competitive)

I don't play on DN/DB much, so can't say I share the same frustrations (or degree of) with certain Decks. I'll admit that certain cards are legitimately staples / engines in everything, and that results in very similar builds being seen in top play (i.e. BriFu/Seraphnite/Tricklown, Desires, Strike, etc). I have a Zoo deck for online (yes I know some people hate the hell out of them), but doesn't mean I use it much (well, YGOPro has some issues).

(I will admit that I didn't like PPals much, but that's attributed more on disliking Yuya's circus thing and the design.)

Obviously game is expensive to pick up IRL and I can't say I agree with KoA's design to rarity bump certain cards; also blame ARG and secondary market for making certain Decks cost more than textbooks to play. As such, I'm moving to online play now (well before NAS gets stupid and files another C/D order on DuelingBook or elsewhere, then we have nowhere to test.) So yeah, I would've liked to play stuff like 'specters and Zoo IRL, but the price tag is too high.

['specters went down a bit, but Raccoon / Cyclone are still too high of a price range right now; least for my college budget. That, and certain staples that I need. Still waiting for Dracossack to drop down so I can actually fix my MPB deck; I guess Number 11 / Gaia Charger went down a bit, so more R7 options (having to use #42 right now for R7 / Astral Force stuff)]

Refer back to point on Links; I have my concerns on why Konami had to resort to making Links and changing the field setup to deal with ED spam. Part of the blame lies with them not design proofing their own stuff and knowing this can happen. Though with that being said, they hit them too hard and should've used Series 10 to further develop the mechanic instead of neutering it hard.

If Konami wanted to return the game to a DM-era state, then that was a terrible move on their part. If players want to go that way, they have GOAT format. As much as I dislike some of the powercreep, I've grown to accept that it's here and that I should adapt stuff to make it function.

General mechanics

(See above for Konami limiting ED options for Links; neutering your other mechanics to shill VRAINS is not a good way to get people to continue. Well, it might work for some who prefer a slower format, but yeah)

Rituals could've been better supported over the years, but yeah. Admittedly, they need a lot of repairs to be proficient on their own; Nekroz were an exception because they did what they needed to do, Vendread looks okay but still piggybacking on Zombies, idek how Heralds are doing (with/out a Sapphy engine; I guess they're doing okay on the sidelines), Shinobirds are Spirit legacy techs and rest of Rituals range from being crap to passable/good techs.

Spirits got some love in mid/late ARC-V, but yeah.

As for Cyberse as a type, this should've gone to other monsters who actually need a more defined Type than being shifted into the closest one. Cyberse literally is a combination of stuff from other Types with a more computer themed appearance. I guess it goes with the computer theme of VRAINS, but yeah

[spoiler=tl;dr]

  • Mixed feelings on Links even now; I think the idea could've been better executed and less invasive on already existing playstyles, but I am not adverse to them (unlike some members).
    • Stuff pertaining to design and why they aren't widely usable for other Decks (notice that a lot of them are Cyberse-specific)
  • Game is getting expensive for casual players, so we take it online because no budget and free to test whenever. Also things about the competitive scene; I have a dislike for certain Decks, but they're for different reasons than some of the TCG crowd and/or to a different degree.
  • Konami should've done more to improve the stuff they have at present, rather than toss in a new ED toy that doesn't go well with everyone else (most of the time). Or put bluntly, they need to design proof on their own; not have players exploit it for them. (Though I admit that it's a very tall order, and even the smaller formats members have run into this issue with hybrid builds).

Akachic and Decode talker are pretty much generic.

Proxy Dragon and Gaiasaber are totally generic.

All of these cards are great. Well, Gaiasaber is fine, but considering its versatility I think it's good enough.

What is your favorite spell card? Banned or otherwise. Normal, continuous, field, archetypal, generic, I don't care. All-time favorite.

Was more on the lines of generic Link 1's (as in the type that just say "1 monster" as a material), or Link 2s that have markers on the bottom corners; least for start up plays. Though I guess we did get Linkuriboh and Spider, so...

Other stuff above is fine.

As for favorite Spell Card, not really sure on it, but probably Raigeki (although I've been trying to not auto include it lately for free destruction). Honorary mention for MST / Twisters, I guess (for removal).

Favorite episode of 5D'S? (You weren't lying. It is great.) I think the ones that got the most emotion out of me were the Armstrong vs Yusei eps. That guy is a jerk!

Likely 5Ds 142 / 150-151 / 153-154, so ones that were never dubbed.

142: Rua/Leo becomes a Signer

150/151: Quasar Dragon appears

153/154: Last duel and the farewell

Emotional one would've been Yusei vs Antinomy/Dark Glass/Bruno (and maybe Aporia vs Z-ONE).
