Greetings!

51ILiYg3c6L.jpg

This is a place on YCM to talk about queer stuff. Everyone is welcome! If you have any queer queries, comments, concerns, crushes, memes, stories, books, TV shows, fanfiction, fiction, truths, anime/manga including rule-abiding yaoi/yuri, RuPaul's Drag Race reviews, etc - this is the place for you!

Feel free to introduce yourself! If you're queer, what was it like coming to that understanding and/or sharing it with others? For me it was a little rocky by which I mean actual rocks were involved, but hey I don't mind a little kink here and there!

If not, what are your thoughts on us queer folk and the LGTBQ+ culture and community surrounding them? Have we taken it too far?

THE RULES

1) Be your fabulous self!

2) All sectional and universal rules apply.

Membership:

Membership rates are as follows: state your desired membership group(s) (if you want, I won't impose labels) and they will be granted to you by a swish of my fairy wand! You can be in multiple member groups within the YCMLGTBQ+, so you may select any and all that apply! In the event you have an alias, I'll use that as they tend to be more recognizable unless you'd prefer your current username be used in which case let me know.

The groups are as follows:

Loving Lesbian!

Golly I'm Gay!

Blissful Bisexual!

Trans-cendent!

Straight and Supportive

Cool and Curious!

?Confused?!

Something Completely Different!

I'm gay and not much else really, though I do wonder about my romantic leanings sometimes, but to what degree rather than gender.

Trans, Biromantic and questioning my sexuality. Why do you label yourself as homophobic, if I may ask?

Welcome! *Waves fairy wand* - added to Trans-cendental! I can add/remove you to/from any groups at your request, that goes for everyone!

As for your question, part of it is for irony's sake and part of it is I do have difficulties coming to terms with certain aspects of being gay or gay culture in general. I reckon we've undergone a paradigm shift in the West whereby homophobes have largely gone from oppressing homosexuals to being oppressed by them. I'd rather neither oppressed the other, but talked to each other as I consider homophobia in of itself to be expected and healthy given how prevalent it's been throughout history.

IKR, so it's pretty crazy that we've never had this sort of Club/Org before.

Please add the Nubian mido9 and I both to holy homophobes.

Welcome! Added to Holy Homophobes!

While it's true Egypt on the whole hasn't been the gayest of places (contrary to what Yu-Gi-Oh! DM would have you believe) I'll let said Nubian account for his own member groups if any are applicable.

I am not openly gay.

Fair enough, coming out can be quite a shitstorm and a good part of me regrets having done so.

For the record should I chalk you down as a blissful bisexual? :>

So has rampaging diseases, racism, slavery and religious intolerance. History hasn't exactly been the greatest. Mind, I'm only objecting to it as healthy.

And I'd like to hear specifics of homophobes being oppressed please.

Would just like to point out that natural repulsion is far different from homophobia.

Ok, quitting this group. I don't want to be part of something that is lead by someone who regards homophobia as healthy. Please remove me from the roster.

Alright, well if it doesn't matter I'll hold off for now and if there's any you'd like me to add you to let me know.

Would just like to point out that natural repulsion is far different from homophobia.

I'd have thought "natural repulsion" would actually be a fairly accurate way of describing it from what I've experienced of it, but if you think there's a distinction to be made I'm certainly willing to hear why.

Removed from member group as per request. If ever you'd like to rejoin let me know.

Also, for the love of god, please change my entered name to my alias.

Changed entered name to alias. I should probably default to aliases (and also changed Lambdadelta to Hina accordingly) though some may prefer their current usernames used so I suppose I'll make a note of that.

To be honest it's probably just my view. The definition of homophobia is fairly loose but I've always pictured it as someone acting in an antagonistic way toward a gay person or just the whole LGBT movement, whether it be via violence or discrimination. This is completely different from someone generally being uncomfortable with the idea of homosexuality or LGBT culture in general.

For example, a straight male who feels disgusted/repulsed at the thought of two guys kissing and would feel uncomfortable seeing two guys kiss in public, but is still able to accept that some people are like this without any particular hatred or negative attitude, doesn't really qualify as a homophobe. A lot of factors can play into a person's natural reaction, but it doesn't necessarily lead them into holding an extreme/irrational hatred.

fek off

I didn't join this group to be intellectual. If I want to be intellectual, I'll go to debates. I left this group because I think it's too open to homophobia, and I think that will only generate discussion which should be left to debates.

Intellectual honesty doesn't have anything to do with being intellectual or else it would be limited to only the top 5% of people.

So I looked at this thread when it first came up and was like "Oh, good luck to y'all gay or bi or whatever else folk". Not noticing the homphobia bit. However, all this talk of homophobia has brought it back into my attention :l

I'm not here to shut y'all down (yet) so much as to say, as much as C&O doesn't really need any mod actions done round here, I'll be keeping a particularly close eye on this thread. Homophobia should not be supported by any means, but I'm willing to let it slide on the very strict condition that y'all behave here. I'm making this decision because while I'd be a much happier mod if that bit didn't exist, I do think having a thread for all the gay/bi/etc peeps to get together is a great idea. The moment I see something that seems to be hate speech against gay/bi/whatever though, or if it gets spam-heavy, this thread will be locked and hidden, and warning points will be handed out to whoever was behind it in the case of hate speech. Effective as of this post, y'all are on a tight leash. Please keep that in mind from this point onward.

Setting that all aside, feel free to sign me up for the straight and supportive group now that I'm here, but don't expect to see much of me short of closely monitoring this thread in case I have to make good on that lock promise.
