DESTRUDO, the Dead Drake of Dread (DDDD)

If this card is in your hand or GY: You can pay half your LP, then target 1 Level 6 or lower monster you control; Special Summon this card, but reduce its Level by the Level of the targeted monster, also place this card on the bottom of the Deck when it leaves the field. You can only use this effect of "Destrudo, the Dead Drake of Dread" once per turn.

 

This card is basically an instant synchro 7, however, there are no good level 7 synchro in the game, with the exception of 2 cards, Ancient Fairy Dragon, and Psyframelord Zeta (Cuck)

 

First, field spell cards have became significantly better in fact and this year we are seeing it with the prominence of dragonic diagram, oracle of the zefra, spyral resort, and union hangar. All these fields spells are no longer just small stats boost or random negative effects, but in fact provide searches and pluses, and you need to search them thereby giving a reason for Ancient Fairy Dragon to be played, because not only does it destroy the opp field that provides huge benefits, but also searches your own field spell card allowing you to plus even more. Ancient Fairy Dragon can also drop a yang zing, a spyral, or a zoo, and it doesnt matter since its like turn 1 anyway

 

Secondly, with the advent of Link monsters, Psyframelord Zeta finally have an use. Literally before if you want to beat psyframes, all you had to do was get zeta out, then build up your resources as you begin to spam cards in defense position. Link monsters however must remain in face up attack position, and unless if the opp have decode talker, outplaying zeta may become an issue.

Yazi is also a good Synch 7. You can float into Mare Mare which then makes Mastar Boy + Denglong.

This card was never amazing. It has been decent against a small niche of decks.

First off, this isn't even generic, so you can only summon it in LIGHT decks. Second, it removes 1 thing, at spell speed one. Then it mills three cards, seven years later. It's fine in lightsworn, but not exactly what I would be bringing up for a counterexample.

 

Dragon ravine looks to have the most potential here. Send destrudo, summon AFD, pop ravine and get a new field spell. Good sheet all around. Plus it is searchable as funk.

Yazi and Moonlight Rose are good ones too, IMO. Naturally they are format-dependent, but Moonlight can be an annoyance for Synchro and Fusion-centric Decks, while Yazi stood out vs. BAs and it would have been great vs. the upcoming Magibullets if Endorphin wasn't a thing.

 

By the way, you forgot to mention Armageddon Knight, which sets it up right away by doubling as a target for its effect.

EDIT: This is actually a Rank 7 engine!!!

1. Use any combination of Ravines, Foolishes and Shrines to get Darkwurm and Destrudo in the GY.
2. Summon Darkwurm from your GY and use its effect to search one of the Gates.
3. Place the Gate you searched in the Pendulum Zone.
4. Pay 4k and Summon Destrudo as a Level 3.
5. Synch for Odd-Eyes Meteorburst and use its effect to Summon the Gate from your Pend Zone.
6. Overlay for Galaxy Tomahawk
7. Link Shokan

This doesn't use your Normal Summon and it makes that Spell that searches Rescue animals live. So search Ferret to go full haywire with Links, or search Hamster (Darkwurm makes it live) and have Hamster select itself upon resolution to make Rank 4s.
