OOC

Prologue: Falcons

Date: 15th of Aeis

Time: 1:37 PM

Location: En Route to Tellan

Southern Aeora. While an area that is free from the conflict that plagues the north between it and its sworn enemy, Jouruun, it is no stranger to strife. With the large majority of its forces and peacekeeping being centered around the city of Rastarn, the law in the southern area is scarcely kept outside of the major city. As such, it has given to the rise of many different bandit and brigand groups that terrorize the lands. While some of the smaller towns have local militias, the people are merely not combat-able enough to keep themselves safe. Compounded on this, the strange beasts and monsters also skulk the lands, adding danger to those who are not merely raided and made profit off of. In response to this, more virtuous, philanthropic individuals, or merely those who see fit to put their skills to less amoral yet profitable uses, had appeared. Selling their services to prospective buyers, mercenary groups started to pop up all across the country side, alleviating the terror the less than fortunate had experienced.

One such mercenary group, the Iron Falcons, has begun to become known amongst the locals. Though small, they have proved themselves to be quite adept at their job, having been met with many successes. These successes has brought about the attention of a local town, having approached them as their town had recently been overrun by bandits, being nothing more then a settlement for this group. As such, responding to this, the Iron Falcons had moved out, now walking towards the target location; the small town of Tellan.

Leon wasn't quite sure what to make of the job. It wasn't often that bandits got so bold that they decided to actually take over a place, though it wasn't unheard of. Yet still, their work had been increasing over the past month, as the bandits seemed to be getting more aggressive. Nevertheless, it was a job that the group had decided to taken, and one that was going to pay well all the same. The group was traveling by foot to get there, and the town was in view, not taking much time left to get there.

"The area nearby seems to be clear, Leon. Still, it would be for the best to keep our guards up for any potential of ambushes."

Lately, bandits around the area had grown more and more daring. It was an almost lawless land with barely anyone wishing to actually establish order in it. Aleithe's time with this company had taught him a lot regarding the state of affair of these lands where the hands of his kingdom could barely reach, and now he had started to understand some of the reason why his father sent him out. He would not be able to be an effective officer and a noble if he didn't understand the issues plaguing the realm he handled.

FInishing his scouting report to the company's leader, Aleithe chose to continue the trip on foot rather than on top of Reina, primarily to pace himself along with the group. There were talks about having Reina and Cormag to act as the group's supply carrier for jobs like this, but Aleithe vehemently disagreed with that out of his consideration for Reina's sake and because it would hamper their combat performance. So for the day Aleithe had been working off the guild's income to see whether they could afford a horse and a wagon with the approximate income they would receive for this month. Especially useful if the group would grow bigger than it was now.

A bandit group taking over a town wasn't really unheard of on these lands. The objective was quite simple, although Aleithe was aware that the bandits perhaps would utilize the townsfolk as a shield or leverage to save their own hide. The usual bandits would be easily handled by the group, but even with that said the bandits had the advantage here if they had control of the entire town. They weren't the most organized group that would be capable of effectively utilizing their advantage, but it's better for him and the company to be cautious.

With the town of Tellan not being that far away anymore, Aleithe decided to wander around the travelling group and making sure that everyone had readied themselves.

"Well, this is certainly nostalgic... It always is."

A slight frown crept onto Ada's face, though the robes she wore cast a heavy shadow over her face, making it difficult for the others to see the expression. That is, if she hadn't been lagging behind the rest of them. She tried to keep up as best she could, but the robes really took a toll on her. If not for her face being obscured, the frown would be seen alongside a flushed face as Ada pushed herself to keep up.

"Come on, you've been through worse! You had to do this alone up until a few months ago! Sure, it was a bit cooler then, but... It's still better than getting a burn."

With a resolute breath, Ada put some more pep into her step, managing to catch up to the rest of the Falcons. As she did, she overheard Aleithe spoke to Leon, earning a small eye roll from the shaman. She glanced to her side to see Layne, nudging him with a grin, still obscured by the shade from her hood.

"You think Aleithe'll ever stop being so uptight? I mean, he has a point, but he's always like this. Maybe you should entertain the group a bit before we arrive, lighten it up a bit?"

Yue walked, one foot in front of the other, her steps not staggered like a normal person's would be, but in a straight line. She had learned to do this under the tutelage of her master Chen Fa, who had taught her most everything she knew of woodcraft and survival. Not that she needed to do it. Actually, it was stupid to be doing this, right? She was on the road, with the Iron Falcons, and she could even see the town. Well, it might be stupid, but it was also automatic, so if she tried to stop herself from walking that way, it'd take even more concentration, and she'd probably trip over her own feet. Which would be...really...embarrassing. Oh no, just thinking about it...is getting me embarrassed. "Eek!"

The archer flailed, arms outspread, having tripped over a rock earlier. However, she ended up regaining her balance almost immediately afterward, her pose reminiscent of a bird about to take flight before she resumed her walk. I-I hope nobody noticed that...

"The area nearby seems to be clear, Leon. Still, it would be for the best to keep our guards up for any potential of ambushes."

"A-a-ambushes?" Yue stammered out. "L-let's hope we don't have to deal with that..."

Nearby, Ada the shaman nudged Layne. "You think Aleithe'll ever stop being so uptight? I mean, he has a point, but he's always like this. Maybe you should entertain the group a bit before we arrive, lighten it up a bit?"

Yue shook her head silently. She was having a hard enough time trying to tackle the idea of an ambush. "I-if we're noisy though, won't that just make an ambush more likely?" she trailed off into a shy murmur. The girl regretted talking to the duo almost immediately after she spoke. One was strange and also a shaman. Every time she cast a spell, it reminded the archer of back home, which made her feel uncomfortably prickly, as if she were in the middle of a thunderstorm. So why did I talk to her? She blamed it on the fear. She wasn't thinking straight. And then there was the other one. The priest was super expressive and just...loud. All right, she wanted to talk to this one, but...loud.

Yue ducked her head. "NevermindjustforgetIsaidanything," fleeing to Leon's position. "Umm...Leon?" she asked. "I...I'm going to go scout around. Just in case we get...ambushed," she emphasized the word as if it were taboo, before running ahead as quickly and quietly as she could.

Rona and Cormag walked in the front of the pack. The fearless Wyvern Rider of the Iron Falcons sat tall and proud on her saddle. The moment they set out Rona insisted on being in the lead and, besides the other flier going out to scout, she had remained ahead the entire time.

She made sure to turn back towards the group on occasion; flashing them a bright smile and offering words of encouragement. "We're almost there guys, you're all doing great, let's keep up the pace!"

However when not looking back said smile slipped away. She was able to sit tall only because she was gripping the front of the saddle tightly; squeezing her legs tight against Cormag's flanks, an action he had become used to, and forcing herself to not be able to slouch or balk at every sudden sound.

"Oh no we're getting so close what if there's too many of them? My hands are getting so sweaty what if I fall off the saddle? No, no, I have to stay strong. They're all watching me. They're watching...they'll know if I hesitate. They'll know and hate me."

She caught herself shivering slightly and bite her lip hard, almost hard enough to draw blood. She couldn't afford to look weak now. Before the battle even began. "It's gonna be an easy one I'm sure of it!" Rona called out to the rest of the group.

Though she could barely hear her own words. Not over the pounding in her eardrums and in her chest. She felt sick. She was going to be sick. Oh no she was going to throw up all over the place right in front of everyone.

She was just about to command Cormag to fly away. She could play it off as though she saw something right? She could just fly away and...

Cormag shook his body, causing Rona to shake as well, and jolted her out of her thoughts.
She patted the wyvern's head. That was right. Running away is not an option.

"I can't wait to wipe those villains out!"

Yeah, as long as she didn't pass out before reaching them...

Wait wait wait why was Yue running?
Was there an attack?

Rona looked around quickly, heart-rate speeding up once more....nothing. But why had Yue moved so quickly? What was she missing? Dammit she was trying so hard to pay attention too...

"Where's the fire, Yue?" Rona said with a confident chuckle.

That was dumb. If there IS a problem now she just looked foolish. She should have stayed silent...

"You think Aleithe'll ever stop being so uptight? I mean, he has a point, but he's always like this. Maybe you should entertain the group a bit before we arrive, lighten it up a bit?"

A little smirk appeared on Layne's face as he glanced around quickly, leaning in to Ada as he let out a little bleh, quietly whispering back to her, "Aleithe never enjoys my shows, I don't think that's the secret to success right now. Everyone is tense, the best thing to do is celebrate after we succeed."

He gave an innocent shrug as he lifted one of his staves up into the air, twirling it over his head haphazardly as he stuck his tongue out, winking at Ada some as he snickered.  His marching stayed rhythmical as he twirled and finally gave the staff a toss into the air, causing it to spin in circles before he caught it again. A few little sparkles of white stars flickered from the orb on the edge, scattering around Layne's head as he grinned, "What we need is... Food. We should eat before we get to the job, I'm hungry. Is that just me?"

He stretched out as he idly began to twirl his staff all over again, this time without launching it up into the air. A small murmuring from nearby didn't go unnoticed though, the cleric turning his head aside as he stretched a tiny bit.

"I-if we're noisy though, won't that just make an ambush more likely?"

He snickered gently as he rubbed at his head slowly, glancing over to Yue before she began to run off. His eyes widened slightly as he jogged after her for a moment, "H-Hey, wait! You can stay and chat, I don't min-... And there she goes." He glanced back to Ada, rubbing at his neck a tiny bit, "Are we scary? I think we're scary. You're spookin' everyone with the crazy robes and I'm just too charming."

A little laugh escaped him as he adjusted his bag over his shoulder, his eyes glancing back and forth slowly as he took in the surroundings. The twirling staff in his hand came to an abrupt halt as he just began to make his way back to Ada, a soft cough being given as he shrugs slowly, "Personally, I gotta agree with Rona. We're getting the hang of this, we just gotta be smart and things'll be fine. Stay close to me if you get injured and we'll do fine."

Chitose/En route to Tellan

Recently, an unexpected source of difficulty has popped up for Chitose. Just days ago, the band she has been traveling with welcomed a new member, finally displacing her own status as the newest member of the Iron Falcons. The new girl, Cassia, did not seem like a bad person although she certainly wasn't the type of individual Chitose was used to. She was a thief, and as much as Chitose tried, she couldn't help but feel a little anxious around her. She also felt she had to help the newer girl out as someone who was until recently, 'the new girl'.

Which was why she could not afford to appear tired in front of the new girl now. Their trek towards Tellan hasn't been particularly difficult but the weight of her armor's been dragging her down. When she traveled alone she walked at her pace but now that she was in the Falcons she felt she should not do so. Her stamina's been improving lately as a result but it seems to still be insufficient. Behind she saw the shaman Ada lag even further and Chitose felt very tempted to join her, but the younger girl soon gathered her bearings and rushed back into the group, surpassing Chitose. So instead she tried her best to not sound breathless and addressed Cassia. "Do you feel prepared, Cassia? We're, about to arrive. I recommend you go, greet the other members while you have the chance."

That was all she could utter before the temptation to just fall on her knees became really strong and her face was going to reveal an emotion other than calm and rational thought and she really wanted to avoid that. Quickly she mustered what little energy she had left to half-sprint towards the front, to where Aleithe was. Of the Falcon members, it was this noble  young man who she found the most common with. She didn't know how to talk to an Aeoran very well, but she certainly knew how to talk to a noble, and his presence has been a saving grace of sorts to the otherwise socially inept girl. Upon reaching his pace, she finally let her exhaustion show. "G-Good day, Aleithe, how goes? You and Reina seem to be, hah, composed today as usual."

"Aleithe never enjoys my shows, I don't think that's the secret to success right now. Everyone is tense, the best thing to do is celebrate after we succeed."

"Indeed. Such a display would only distract us at this vital moment before our mission. Let us just keep the festivities for once we actually vanquish these ruffians."

Overhearing Ada and Layne's conversation about him, Aleithe couldn't help himself from replying while he continued to look over the state of the people in the company. He noticed Yue approaching Leon and asking about how she should patrol the area in case of ambushes, and Aleithe could only let out a sigh to that before continuing with what he did. Ground patrol would be quite risky right now now that they're in hostile territory, but he decided to trust Yue enough that she wouldn't endanger herself needlessly.

"What we need is... Food. We should eat before we get to the job, I'm hungry. Is that just me?"

"Ah, that is true. It is unwise to enter a battle with an empty stomach."

Hearing Layne's suggestion, Aleithe took it upon himself to reach for the sack he was carrying, and brought out some hard bread and dried meat and so he started to distribute them among the people present, along with offering them water if they so wished. As he did it, he noticed Rona trying to cheer Yue up, and he was going to say something to both of them when Chitose approached him.

"G-Good day, Aleithe, how goes? You and Reina seem to be, hah, composed today as usual."

"It is par for the people's expectation regarding us noble, is it not? In the face of both glorious victory or a crushing defeat, we should always remain composed lest the rest of the group would crumble.

You seem to be quite drained. It would be best if you do not strain yourself too much before the upcoming battle. Here, have this bread and meat, and you can drink as much as you want to from this canteen too. If it is necessary, I could arrange so Reina would carry you until we are close to our destination."

Ada rolled her eyes as Aleithe remained as stoic as ever, puffing her cheeks a bit before Yue came up behind them.

"I guess food is also morale raising, but I was hoping for a show..."

"...make an ambush more likely?"

Ada only caught the tail end of Yue's question before the girl went running off towards the front.

"H-hey, wait, Yue!  ...Aaaand there she goes again. I'll never get why she runs away from me like that..."

"Are we scary? I think we're scary. You're spookin' everyone with the crazy robes and I'm just too charming."

"Wh- crazy robes? These are traditional shaman robes, and I'm proud of them! It's better than the vogue alternative to them in Krosav..."

Ada tossed the rations she had been handed to Layne before rushing after Yue, at least as quickly as she could in said crazy robes. Yue's quick steps saw her to the front of the group as Ada passed by Leon, leaving the shaman to pant as she pushed onward. However, before she could reach Yue, she heard Rona speak to her.

"Where's the fire, Yue?"

"Think, Ada. Yue's not going to magically warm up to me just because I run to check on her. If I let Rona ask her what the problem is, I can just hang back and see how this goes... Agh, I hate stuff like this, but what else can I do?"

Begrudgingly, Ada settled into a slightly brisk pace, following after the unlikely duo of a wyvern rider and an archer. She reached into her sleeve to grab the dried meat that Aleithe had given her, only to remember that she had tossed it to Layne in her haste to chase after Yue.

"There's not going to be a bite left when I make it back to him, is there?"

"Indeed. Such a display would only distract us at this vital moment before our mission. Let us just keep the festivities for once we actually vanquish these ruffians."

Layne puffed a little bit of air out of his mouth as he rolled his eyes... Even though he knew that Aleithe was right this particular occasion. A small sigh escaped him as he rubbed at his head slowly, his eyes fluttering closed for a moment as he stretched his arms. He blinked for a moment when Ada began to toss some rations towards him, a little gulp escaping him as his eyes widened some, "Ah yes, the most fashionable of crazy robes. The nuns wanted me to wear something similar, but I just got my own outfit so that I could move freely."

He grinned a little bit at Ada, sticking his tongue out at her as she began to dig in the robe, blinking for a moment as he coughs lightly. He let out a grumble as he blinked down at the dried meats, holding it up to Ada, "Wait, I don't think I need all of this, he was just about to get me some..."

And there Ada went, running off towards Yue as he just watched. He glanced down towards the rations he was holding onto, sighing as he made his way over to Aleithe with a little shake of his head. He took a serving of the hard bread while Aleithe's attention was focused on Chitose, whistling lazily as he grabbed some of the dried meat as well. Of course he wasn't going to eat all of this food on his own, he was just going to wait for Ada to get back, and then he would give her a share of it. He turned towards Aleithe again, giving him an actual smile, "Thank you, I'll make sure Ada gets some as w-..."

He trailed off speaking as Aleithe turned away quickly, going on to distribute food off to the others as he let out a little yawn. His hand idly rubbed the back of his head, only for him to fall behind as he was left to his own devices now. He began nibbling on a slice of the dried meat, watching as Chitose approached Aleithe with her tired expression, noting it disappear as he began to trail behind the two. A small chuckle escaped him as he just listened to the two of them talk, a little yawn escaping him as his free hand idly twirled his staff as he made off in a different direction, making sure he was out in the open for when Ada made her return for food.

If she made her return for food.

Let's make some money.

Southern Aeora was an environment Cassia could definitely get used to. She had her entire life so far to do so, after all. It also happened to be where the Iron Falcons worked for the most part, and today's job was something Cassia would probably enjoy. The little town of Tellan had been taken over by bandits, and the Falcons were to get rid of them. Bandits... well, if Cassia were being honest, she'd swear they all must have had a knife stuck up their asses or something. Bunch of over-aggressive thugs that never really seem to stop and savor the things worth savoring. In that respect, Cassia was absolutely not a bandit.

"Do you feel prepared, Cassia? We're, about to arrive. I recommend you go, greet the other members while you have the chance."

"Let's see just how ready I am..." Cassia reached into her pocket, pulling out a small die. She tossed the cube up into the air, watching it spin and roll as it traveled up, and then back down. She caught it during its descent, before opening her hand to reveal the result of her toss. "Five. Oh yeah, we'll be fine." Chitose appeared to have already left though. And here Cassia thought she was supposed to be the fast one. She'd gone up ahead to converse with Aleithe. Come to think of it, she could do with a bit of chit-chat before the mission herself. But who to talk to? Yue had gone to scout up ahead, followed up by a couple others. Something about Layne just rubbed Cassia the wrong way. The others, she wasn't really sure about. Cassia thought about it a bit before coming to her decision.

If Yue and the people with her found something valuable on accident, Cassia wanted to be right there too. As such, she picked up the pace, moving to catch up with them and giving Aleithe - who seemed to be handing out food - a quick "Not hungry, thanks," as she passed by. Cassia was no slowpoke, so it wasn't exactly tough to catch up with the others.

Scouting should be way more interesting than sitting back with the others anyway, right? When Cassia caught up, she gave the girls gathered so far a wave, and said "Hey there, I'm here to help with the scouting."

Chitose/En route to Tellan

"N-no, that is quite alright. I appreciate the offer but this exhaustion serves as good training for me, in a manner of speaking." Truthfully speaking, being carried on Reina while everyone else had to walk would very much be opposite of what a reliable senior would do so she couldn't risk that either. And it would be slightly embarrassing. "But I shall accept the rations at least, thank you."

She accepted and calmly but quickly bit on the bread and meat, and then accepted the canteen which she curiously looked at, but then shook her head and drank a bit from it. She handed it back.

Then, Cassia ran past them to join the two that went ahead. Of course, the new girl could just come back anytime so Chitose couldn't let her guard down, but seeing the new girl physically leave prompted a part of her to relax. She felt her knees buckle and stopped in her tracks.

"...If you don't...mind, I'd like to take you up on that offer earlier, if at all possible."

Yue ran. Past Layne and Ada calling out to her and past Aleithe handing out dried meat and water.

"Where's the fire, Yue?" that was Rona--oh wait. Fire?!

Fire? Where?! Oh, no...just what we needed... The girl skidded to a stop, her head twisting at an angle that allowed her to listen and observe. At the moment, she looked like a wild animal, her weight resting on the balls of her feet, one wrong movement away from flight.

"I-I don't hear anything..." the girl said eventually, her body relaxing ever so slightly. She stiffened when she noticed they had company. Ada and Cassia.

"Hey there, I'm here to help with the scouting."

"N-neh?" the archer stuttered. "Uhh, sure, great." She wasn't sure how convincing she sounded, but it was Cassia! The one who reminded her of a nasty, bunny-eating fox. No, no way was she going to let her guard down around her. "As long as you don't eat Chang'e..." she muttered under her breath.

Almost as if hearing his name had summoned him, the rabbit popped his head out of the collar of Yue's hanfu--the long robe she wore. She had multiple others like it in case it got torn, but hopefully she wouldn't get close enough to the fighting for that to happen. The bunny had quite the unamused expression on his face as he shook his head at Cassia, which made for a humorous dichotomy with Yue's nervous nods.

"En...l-let's go then?" Yue suggested, quickly glancing from Cassia, to Rona, to Ada, before gulping, her eyes swerving to Leon and waving at him so he'd know it wasn't just her now. That done, she turned her attention back to her surroundings, and started to move forward cautiously, gaining confidence as she went. She forgot to be nervous about having others with her as she turned her head this way and that, cataloguing every sound she heard, from the chirping of the pretty birdies to the shifting of rocks from those walking on the main road.

"I-I don't hear anything..."

Oh, great, she messed up already. Rona scolded herself for making the girl even more nervous. The last thing she needed was to freak out their archer...Suppressing a shudder, she was about to try and reassure the girl when....

"Hey there, I'm here to help with the scouting."

Rona bit her lip. So many people were intruding on her space. This isn't what she wanted. She just wanted to get away from them so they wouldn't see how nervous she was...But now they were right there and one of them was already so alert, in her own way, while the other was...basically a stranger to her actually.

It was odd but every time Cassia tried talking with her...

Cormag let out a vicious growl as the thief approached his rider. He was glaring at her as he let the noise out and Rona knew it wouldn't be good to keep him around her for long.

"Sorry folks, my buddy Cormag is a little ornery, I'm going to fly a bit ahead. Keep your eyes peeled, friends, but worry not I'll be nearby in case of any nasty ambushes...or fires."

Cormag took into the air, flying above the group, and slightly ahead, as Rona held on tightly to the reigns.

Good. This was good. She didn't have to worry about them seeing how her face paled. How her hands trembled. Now the only thing she had to worry about was falling off...

And a fire.

Fire would be bad.

"Hey there, I'm here to help with the scouting."

Ada grimaced as Cassia came up behind her, adding to Rona, Yue, and herself at the front. Before she could add a single word to the group she was apparently part of, Rona flew off, and Yue headed off to scout, seemingly fine as she focused on her new task. Without even considering the implications, a dejected Ada began to head back to Layne near the rear, a slight huff escaping her.

"I guess she is okay... I'd really like to know why she's so adverse to me, but now's not the time."

She shuffled by Leon, Aleithe, and Chitose without a word, oblivious as she mused. Her expression was obscured by her hood, but a look of confusion and, quite possibly, annoyance was definitely on her face. Before she realized, she had made it to the back of the group, with no Layne in sight. She looked about quickly, finding him off to the side, twilring his staff and seemingly just enjoying himself.

"Ugh, I just want to know why she avoids me!" She grumbled as she approached the cleric, "I try to be nice to her, but she just acts like I'm a mons-"

She paused as she noticed the food in his free hand, cocking a brow with a slight grin. Her mood seemed to lift slightly as she playfully ribbed her friend.

"And what's this? You actually saved my food for me? Color me surprised!"

"Ugh, I just want to know why she avoids me! I try to be nice to her, but she just acts like I'm a mons-"

A little smirk appears on Layne's face as he nibbles on a piece of the stale bread, raising an eyebrow as he snickers lightly. He waves his staff towards the shaman as she closes the gap, clicking his tongue a tongue a tiny bit, "Now calm down! Any hope of entertaining a conversation begins with time!"

He grins at Ada a little bit, reaching over to lightly bap the top of her head with his staff as he rumbles a tiny bit, "Give it time. You're gonna get yourself worked up over nothing and then she'll actually start avoiding you cause you're suddenly the girl with a terrible temper. It's better to let her get comfortable around you at her own pace."

"And what's this? You actually saved my food for me? Color me surprised!"

He blinked for a moment, glancing down at the food in his hand for a moment, then back up at Ada. He slowly brought up one of the strips of dried meat to his mouth, nibbling on it with the bread, tilting his head some, "What? No, no, you're the one who ran off on me. It's totally my food now." He makes a point to bite a large chunk out of the strip of meat, a grin on his face...

And once she had begun to react, he tossed the one of the other strips he grabbed from the supplies to her, sticking his tongue out as he smiles, "Kiddin', kidding. I wouldn't send you in on an empty stomach. At least, I probably shouldn't. As much as I would love to keep this food to myself, I should share..."

Even as he spoke to Ada, thoughts were running through his head. Concern mostly.

Yue running off like that doesn't inspire confidence. I hope she doesn't do that while we're in the job and she needs healing.

...I still don't feel like we're a cohesive group. I hope I can keep us topped off enough over the course of this...

As Aleithe gave him his scouting report, Leon simply nodded saying, "good to hear." He wasn't actually expecting any ambushes to be on the road, though, the chance that they wandered into a different group of outlaws weren't exactly low either. As the feminine looking noble went ahead, the rest of the group had either been talking amongst each other or seemingly needing to scout ahead. Leon merely kept to himself, the general calm look on his face as he silently marched along his fellow mercenaries. His thoughts were preoccupied, merely wondering about the job ahead of them. From what he understood it wasn't to be that large of a group, nor were they likely any different from the usual crowd, so he wasn't too worried about it. Instead, he was worried about how half of the group seemed to be split off in the scouting, thinking it to be a tad excessive and thinking it to be a slight problem if something were to actually occur. Furthermore, since they were nearing the town he needed to talk with the group anyway. Walking over to Aleithe, not really paying much mind to what he was talking about with Tita, he said, "Aleithe. Sorry. But could you gather the others."

Once everyone was gathered around, Leon looked around to each other and said, "we'll be in the town of Tellan soon. From what I understand there are two entrances to the town, and by extension two exits. I don't want any of them escaping when things go south for them so we'll be splitting off into two groups, one for each entrance. Rona, Layne, Ada, you'll be with me. Aleithe, you're in charge of the other three. You'll approach from the side entrance while we strike from the front." His voice was calm and seemingly level, and his expression was the same as it had been when he was merely lost in thought. The boy wasn't actually certain that this would be the best approach, nor was he certain that these groups were the most balanced. Nevertheless, he couldn't risk the bandits trying to enact vengeance once the job was over, and so this was the best he could think of. With the small meeting out of the way, the group then split off and walked to their appropriate areas.

Within the walls of Tellan, the group of bandits seemed to be idly standing by, not really sure what to do. They were used to robbing from others and definitely breaking things just for the hell of it. Seizing an area though, that was an entirely different story altogether. They already robbed most of what was valuable here, though they weren't exactly sure where to put the stolen things since they were in the town they were stealing from. And most of the town's people merely kept themselves locked away in their houses, and every bandit knew you couldn't heckle a person who locked their doors. The leader, however, was merely sitting outside of the largest building, muttering to himself. He seemed quite displeased, though no one around him was able to quite make out the extent of it.

It was around this time that Leon's group arrived at the entrance to the town. Having not been immediately noticed, Leon simply said, "alright team, let's take them out fast and hard." He looked to Rona, giving her a nod as if she already knew what to do. The bandits soon noticed the strange quartet arrive, and were immediately taken by the sight of the wyvern, letting out a shout to alert all the other nearby bandits that there was a fight on their hands about to happen.

There had been no fires. That was good. Rona actually had no idea what she would do had there been a fire. The only thing she could think was to have Cormag belly flop onto it but she didn't think he'd appreciate that plan very much.

The rest of the brief journey was made in blissful peace. But she knew they were getting closer. It was just about time to fight. She couldn't let herself get comfortable, complacent, in this moment of rest.

As they gathered for Leon's quick summary Rona made sure she was at the man's side. She had to at least try to appear to be there for him.

"we'll be in the town of Tellan soon. From what I understand there are two entrances to the town, and by extension two exits. I don't want any of them escaping when things go south for them so we'll be splitting off into two groups, one for each entrance. Rona, Layne, Ada, you'll be with me. Aleithe, you're in charge of the other three. You'll approach from the side entrance while we strike from the front."

Rona's forced the smile to stay on her face. As much as she wanted it to shrink away and as much as she wanted to hide her face in shame. "Of course Aleithe would be in charge of the other group. They're much more capable. Did you really think it would be different? Stupid, stupid, girl." She berated herself in her head.

"Of course boss just leave it to me!" Was her outward response.

"alright team, let's take them out fast and hard."

They had made it to their position without any issues. Something Rona was grateful for...But it seemed as though there were more enemies than she had at first expected. It didn't matter now though she had her job. Rona nodded at Leon's words. Yes, she knew what had to be done.

She had to get to the leader. Surely taking him out would weaken the other's morale. If she couldn't be trusted to lead the other group she had to show that she was useful in another way.

Without another word Rona guided Cormag forward. Straight ahead from her position and to the right, left of the Fighter. She didn't think about the opponents she passed by. Nor did she think about those ahead. She barely even focused on the one she was attacking; though she did make sure to keep an eye on the nearest Barbarian as she made her attack.

Her goal was not here. She intended to attempt to bypass them all if possible to take on the leader straight away.

It didn't matter if she got surrounded. "You are a warrior of Jouruun. A Wyvern Rider. If you cannot handle several foes at once then you are worthless to me." The words of her father rang in her head. She couldn't let their numbers get to her. She couldn't think. She had to act.

Rona brought her axe down.

Ada bit her lip as they arrived at the town, assembling in two groups along the edges. Fights were nothing new, but splitting up like this left her uncomfortable. Stationing both Layne and herself with Leon was one thing, but Roda was notorious for charging in, regardless of her safety... or the security of those around her.

"Of course boss just leave it to me!"

"alright team, let's take them out fast and hard."

With that, Rona rocketed off, affirming the shaman's concerns. In an instant, she saw the wyvern rider's axe fall on the surprisingly helpless bandit. It wouldn't be long before he was knocking on heaven's door, though Rona would probably charge forward and leave him bleeding and ready for revenge. Ada assessed the situation as she produced her Shade tome from her sleeve.

"I could take that fighter out, but... I can take a hit as well as Leon can, and I think I can hit the uneducated a bit harder. So, perhaps..."

She popped the book open and began to recite the incantation, second nature to her at this point. She advanced, targetting a fighter that was near their starting position. Rona's charge was sloppy, unrefined. It was a big part of why she wondered about the girl's story, because she hardly felt like a trained warrior. She cast the thoughts out of her head as she heard the last word of the spell, casting her free right hand towards the bandit. In an instant, the black magic was upon him, eating away at him with its destructive force.

"Alright, Layne, stick close to Leon or me," She called back to the cleric, standing her ground with the tome open, returning to absentmindedly chanting. She remained looking at the fighter she had just attacked, but she had tabs on the other one that Rona had passed.

"Hopefully Leon can clean up a bit... If we can establish a small wall between them and Layne, we should be safe until the others make some headway."

Yue had found...absolutely nobody. Not that she wanted to find somebody, she was just commenting, internally, that she found nobody, and that because of that, it was not really the most interesting of scouting ventures, but...but that was fine because if she did find somebody then that would mean she would have to fight. And fighting wasn't fun.

But at least nobody was on fire.

It seemed Leon wasn't too fond of her going off and scouting because not-so-scary Aleithe arrived telling her to come back as if she were a lost duckling. Yue puffed up her cheeks at that but returned because she had run rather suddenly and maybe the others thought she was running away?

The girl took a deep breath to calm herself, her thoughts starting to settle, perking her head up to listen to Leon speak.

You'll approach from the side entrance while we strike from the front." His voice was calm and level, his expression matching.

Yue breathed out, her shoulders slumping as she hung her head in relief. So she wouldn't be part of the vanguard. "Thank goodness," she murmured. Her heart still pounded against her ribcage like a tanggu drum, but that she was used to. Fear was, for better or worse, a familiarity to her.

Beside her, Rona seemed excited to fight, something the archer could not understand at all, but as Chen-sifu said, there were some people who were as different as heaven and earth. Such as Rona and herself.

Their arrival at Tellan caused Yue's spine to straighten like a crane on high alert. However, her opponents didn't seem nearly as watchful. Actually, they looked bored.

The mercenaries had split into two groups, and the main group had attacked first. Rona shot forward like a comet on top of her adorable wyvern, Cormag, bringing her axe down on one of the fighter bandits. Ada targeted another one with her dark magic. By now, both enemies looked heavily injured.

Yue glanced around at her group, starting to hyperventilate already. Oh no oh no oh nooo nobody's moving why is nobody moving or am I just so nervous that things are moving faster for me than they are for everybody else? Oh, Great Spirits, this is not good. Fine, you know what? Fine, I'm moving ahead, maybe if I just start now then it'll be less scary.

The girl walked forward, nocking an arrow as she went, and shot it toward the mercenary. "G-go away!" she yelped.
