"O-okay."

"Excellent!" Once Yue had confirmed that it was okay for Cassia to pick up some hunting lessons from the team archer, an awkward silence hung in the air. Yue seemed nervous. She was just that bad with people apparently. Be patient, me. My job's to make sure she's alright, so it would be better not to give her time if she needs it to think of how to say what she's thinking. Or something. Cassia wasn't sure where she was going with this in her mind, but the bottom line was that patience was key right now. Still, Yue sure was taking her sweet time trying to think up the right words.

"Oh! Oh, um... Oh, I need to start speaking, don't I?"

She wasn't thinking of what to say after all. Well, it was no big deal. Short of some awkwardness just now, it wasn't like anything bad came of Yue's silence. "That might help a bit," Cassia chuckled. "If you're not one for talking, try not to worry about it too much."

Letting out a small sigh of relief as she agreed to the rest, Leon took the offer to sit down next to her. As he sat down, his legs thanked him for the rest. As Rona spoke of the view of the night sky, Leon looked upward, seeing the somewhat obscured starlit sky. While it was definitely not one of the best views he had seen, he still simply said, "it is." As time passed, Leon realized that neither party was saying anything again. While normally this would be fine, he, for some reason, felt more awkward than normal around her and started to twiddle his fingers about. Trying to think of small talk topics, the boy eventually settled on trying to learn more about her home, and said "so, um, is the sky the same here as it is in your home?" He had mentally groaned at his own question, trying to figure out what made him think that was a good question.

Rona didn't seem entirely comfortable responding at first, thinking about her home was difficult, but eventually she tore her gaze from the sky. "Not exactly. My home is cloudier than this, and usually there is snow falling from it. It's cold is what makes me so tough!" She paused. "Though, sometimes the sky lights up in an aurora, it's...one of the things I miss....Ah, nevermind that, no point in dwelling in the past, haha!" She grinned at Leon, putting full effort into sounding laid back about it.

"Oh, that does sound pretty interesting to look at." He had been vaguely aware that it existed, but had never actually seen or known what it looked like. While he was interested in this aurora thing, he caught something about Rona that he didn't normally see. As she seemed to try and divert the topic away, the boy figured that the girl was probably homesick. It made sense, since it obviously couldn't be easy living in Aeora as she was, though he felt a bit stupid for not realizing it earlier. Regardless, there was nothing he could really do about it at the time, and instead said, "well, if you say so. We do have tomorrow to look forward to after all." Knowing that she had suffered some injuries from the last fight, the boy felt obligated to ask, "did you get patched up after this last fight?"

Rona looked away quickly, to hide the blush. She wasn't sure how to take the interest Leon was showing in what she was saying. Usually she said things that didn't really matter so it was...odd. Leon was odd. She forced herself to calm as she turned back to him. "Ah, yes, of course, I'm...fighting fit, as always!"

"Good to hear." The boy nodded before looking to her saying, "then I look forward to working with you tomorrow as well." Sitting back a bit more, the boy stretched his arms and said, "hm, we've been out for awhile now. What say we head back?"

Their eyes met for a brief moment and Rona quickly looked back at the sky, worried he'd notice something other than her usual attitude in her eyes. "Yeah, sure." She said, hastily standing. She took a deep breath and began to step forward. "They're probably lost without us!" With that, the two of them got up from where they sat, and made their way back to the camp.

Chapter 2 - Desert in the Woods

The night had passed and the group seemed to be in great luck, as there were no monsters to be seen to interrupt their slumber. While he was feeling refreshed from the day prior's events, Leon felt strange as he had forgotten what it was like to have slept in a forest. While the feeling was a tad unpleasant, the boy still went around getting food from their packings and distributing it out to everyone as they awoke, in order to get ready for the day's events. Once everyone was up and ready, fastened his blades and newfound shield onto him saying, "alright everyone, gear up. Our mission today is to defeat the leader of the Desert Riders, which will involve us raiding the old Fort Olsen. I don't really have details beyond that, so keep your wits about you."

With the briefing over, and everyone prepared, the group began their trek through the woods. The journey was met with no real peril, as the only thing to get in the way of the group was the occasional fallen tree branch or log as they started to go more off the path. It had appeared there were no bandits in the immediate area and while the noises of the monsters were apparent, they only ever seemed to get farther away rather than closer. After a bit more of walking, Leon would hold up his hand, prompting the group to stop, before walking forward. After a brief moment, the boy motioned the group forward, and pointed out what was before them.

A large building, roughly the same size as the one that Iron Falcon's base of establishment, stood in a clearing not too far from where the Falcons were. The building itself was made mostly out of wood, with a stone base, and looked to have several patchwork repairs on it, though it was clear that it had still fallen to disrepair. The main entrance was in plain view, as they were facing it, though it was clear that getting through it would be difficult as there was a patrol of bandits surrounding it. After scouting the rest of the perimeter of the fort, they would be able to see several, smaller, bandit patrols and one hole in the wall that seemed large enough for a person to fit through. As they were still obscured in the trees, the group hadn't been spotted yet, and after thinking that they had been looking for long enough, Leon ushered them back. "Well, we found our mark," he said. After a bit of thinking, he said, "hm, as I see it right now, our options are to either go through the front or the side. Whether we want to split up or not, I'm not sure." Leon still felt that the last time they had attempted it, it didn't pan out particularly great and thus was nervous to suggest it again. Looking to the others he said, "well, what do you all think?"

[spoiler=OOC]

So yeah, decision time. You can follow one of Leon's suggestions or if you have on of your own suggest that as well. In addition, Chitose should not be considered in the planning, as, while she is still there, is unfit for combat as she has not recovered from the grievous wounds she suffered from the last battle.

Also, to clarify, the main entrance is about two squares wide, while the side is only one.

[spoiler=Lore: Aurora]

The Aurora is a strange weather phenomena that takes place in the night skies of Jouruun. It is seen throughout most of the country and occurs twice every year, once per solstice. It is very obvious when an Aurora is happening, as the stars become partially obscured as a collection of flowing lights of seven different colors, forming waves and bows of rainbow like light. Scholars have theorized that the reason for this is rooted in the land of Jouruun itself. Believing that the poor shape of Jouruun's lands are due to some curse brought about it during the Great Calamity, an Aurora is believed to be formed to the spirits of nature attempting to connect with the land but being unable to do so. Instead, they are thought to be expelled to the sky, where they gather and form the light show known as the Aurora. As the amount of energy needed to make an unaided spirit visible is  massive, it is thought this only occurs during the solstices, as the power and presence of the spirits are greatest during these seasonal shifts.

[spoiler=Tutorial: Equipment]

Equipment is generally the term used to refer to as any non-consumable or non-weapon item, in this case the Leather Shield. They are found in the character's "item" inventory section, and must be equipped by the character in order to take effect. Equipment may be equipped or unequipped during a player's turn in the same manner as a weapon could be. A player can only have one Equipment item equipped at once.

[spoiler=Tutorial: Indoors/Mounts]

Due to horses's and salamander's feet being more suited for the out doors then the manufactured surfaces inside, they find it more difficult to move. In addition, creatures that fly find it harder to move due to their wingspan and the ceiling that they must be mindful of.

While indoors, mounts take a -2 penalty to move.

A character with a mount may choose to dismount their mount at any time. When a unit dismounts, they are no longer treated as a mount unit and do not take effective damage from their mounts weakness. Their move is reduced by two and their skills are half as effective. In addition, when a mount is dismounted they are left in the square they were dismounted in. The rider must be in the same square as the mount to remount them. While mounts have their own stats, and can move they are significantly weaker than their rider, and it is not recommended to put them in range of combat.

Rona was silent through most of the trek the day after. She had managed to patch herself up fine, though her injuries still stung, but she wanted to keep from worrying the others by accidentally let slip the occasional pain that flared up. So she kept herself quiet, sitting tall on Cormag, eyes straight ahead with a perfectly crafted look of confidence.

This mask was close to cracking when she got a look at what they were facing. There were several groups of bandits that could be seen. And those were only what were on the outside. There was no telling how many waited inside. If they attacked without dealing with the patrols they'd be caught between two groups. And if they spent time wiping out the patrols then those inside would have time to shore up their defenses.

Not to mention that she'd have to abandon Cormag once they were inside, the large beast wouldn't be able to move well inside and they'd just be a giant target.

She wasn't adapt at tactics. Rona's father saved teaching that for the best soldiers. She knew something of hit and run tactics, but only because her father had driven it into everyone that fought under him that such things were for the weak.

Rona would just listen to whatever Leon came up with and...

"well, what do you all think?"

"Whatever you order me to do, leader, I'll do it!" Rona said, while inside her confidence took a blow. Why was he asking them? Should he not be ordering them directly? It didn't make any sense to her why he'd ask the opinions of his troops like this.

In either case, Rona didn't know what to do. She could only fight. "I could probably handle those fools at the gate, and force them to send their patrols to stop me, Cormag and I would make short work of them!" And if she went down no one would see her fail. And she'd give the rest time to get inside. It seemed the plan that made the most sense. Just like that night, long ago, a sacrifice was necessary for the rest to win this fight. She wouldn't let her think about it. If she did, she'd run, and then there would be no one to turn to.

Aleithe watched over Chitose the whole night despite that he was also still recovering from his injuries, though even someone like him ended up succumbing to his fatigue, and spent a few hours sleeping. The next day he was considerably more refreshed, although Chitose seemed to not be in as good of a condition even now. He would need to look into it more, but it seemed that the consensus was that she wouldn't be able to continue with the mission.

Aleithe let out a sigh. At least this way she would survive, but losing one member of the team was still quite a blow for the group. The group was briefed by Leon before leaving to reach the bandit's stronghold. They were in luck as they didn't suffer further ambushes from monsters or bandits, and soon they would find the building. Most of the mission would be indoors, so it perhaps was best to have Reina stay in the convoy. Going on the mission on foot from the start would help his mobility, and Reina could help protecting the convoy and Chitose.

"well, what do you all think?"

Leon had just briefed the group on the existence of another entrance, a smaller one on the side. Rona had offered to act as the battering ram to take on the people on the main gate. Normally that would be one of the thing Aleithe would start admonishing her for, but after a while of thinking, he actually agreed with her for once.

"Splitting would be ideal. The team going inside from the side would need to have good mobility and would find opportunities to strike and infiltrate while their main attention would be focused on the commotion on the gate. Rona and our new member would be the one leading the charge at least until we pave a way inside, with the rest of the front team acting as their support.

Locating and eliminating any potential archers would be a priority however, should they be around. They have the home field advantage, and who knows how things would be on the inside. Anything that could snipe us on our charge would be quite a danger, I imagine."

Breathe in. Breathe out.

Only those words had filled Ada's night, focusing on the techniques that Layne was teaching her. She head made sure to grab her books on the way back to her tent, ever taking slow, deep breaths. When she finally closed her eyes, she seemed to be breathing that deeply on instinct alone, and upon waking she was more rested than she had been in weeks. She stretched and peaked out of her tent to see who else was moving about, finding Leon distributing food. So the day began.

After the trek, the group found themselves staring at the fort, which felt almost out of place in deep woods like these. She listened to Leon as she observed the area, taking special note of the hole in the wall. It would take a few minutes to get a small group in through it, but if there was nothing on the other side of the wall, it seemed ideal. As Rona and Aleithe spoke, Ada narrowed her eyes. That wyvern rider was at it again. Risking her life and giving Layne and the rest of them worry. The shaman cleared her throat as Aleithe finished explaining his logic, popping open a tome.

"I think that our swiftest should be at the front, and our strongest should be in the back. It looks like we'd be endangering ourselves if we charged into the front, regardless of group size, so a distraction force at the front seems more prudent. Once the guards are either distracted or lured away from the entrance, the raid group could force their way through the forces inside. The distraction group could then use the side entrance to slink in and flank whatever forces are inside."

Eyeing Rona and Aleithe's mounts, Ada continued. "Both of our riders could easly be part of the distraction, though Cormag might be a bit too big and slow for this, compared to Reina. I would send Rona in with the raid group."

"That might help a bit," Cassia chuckled. "If you're not one for talking, try not to worry about it too much."

Yue relaxed a bit. Wow, this Cassia really was a nice person! She would have to scold Chang'e for being so distrusting of such a nice girl. "Th-thank you," she murmured, bowing a bit automatically before straightening. Then she looked around, seeming to have remembered something, "Oh wait, did you need me for anything else? Uh oh, they're worried about me back at camp, aren't they?" she shook her head. "Sorry, I'll head back then." Perhaps it was a vestige of her earlier wariness toward the thief still lodged in her brain, but she felt like, maybe right now wasn't the best time to show her skills, or try her hand at teaching. She had a feeling she'd be terrible at it, anyway.

Eventually they reached the bandits' headquarters. "Well, we found our mark," Leon said, "hm, as I see it right now, our options are to either go through the front or the side. Whether we want to split up or not, I'm not sure." Looking to the others he said, "well, what do you all think?"

"Whatever you order me to do, leader, I'll do it!" Rona said. "I could probably handle those fools at the gate, and force them to send their patrols to stop me, Cormag and I would make short work of them!"

The archer glanced at the girl admiringly. Wow, she's so brave and strong. If only she could be that amazing.

Aleithe and then Ada spoke, but seemed to disagree on who should be in the distraction group, and who should be in the raid group. Personally, Yue thought Rona would do better in the distraction group, but it wasn't really her place to talk. She was a hunter, not a speaker. Also, talking was...scary, sometimes. Or lots of times, actually. So instead she twiddled with her thumbs and glanced nervously at the people around her. She couldn't wait till they got to the actual fighting part of all of this. Most would think it weird, right? That I find killing people easier than talking to them? But that was just how she was, and there wasn't much she could do to change that, either.

The night passed without any sneak attacks or the like, so that was good. They were all rested and good to go in the morning, which was very good. The one eyed warrior was quiet through the trek, fiddling with his spear as he stayed in the back. Was his friend okay? Were the bandits feeding them? Have they eaten? Or where they being abused or worse, sold off? He couldn't imagine his profound sadness if all this was for nothing.

Eventually, they got to the base, where their apparent leader, Leon asked for their opinion of what they wanted to do. Most people wanted to split up, and assault the base from the front and the back, but there was one crucial detail that Raynor wanted to know.

"So, if we do split up, which group does the healer go with? Remember, when we split up, we'll have a bunch of enemies and probably walls blocking the groups. One group is going in without healing,"

The night proceeded without issue. Layne prodded at Ada occasionally, making sure that her breathing was up to par, a little rumble escaping him as he let out a little sigh. The duo eventually got to the point where sleep was necessary... Especially since Layne wanted to rise early to wash up. The two split up once Ada had retrieved her tomes, a little curse escaping Layne once he realized he could have been reading them...

Of course, he rose up early, taking off towards the stream they had located the night before. It was time to get cleaned up again.

Layne rubbed at his cheek a little bit, staying quiet as the rest of the group discussed tactics. He seemed a little tired as he listened to the discussion, opting to remain quiet as the discussion commenced. His gaze turned to Rona slowly...

"Whatever you order me to do, leader, I'll do it!" Rona said. "I could probably handle those fools at the gate, and force them to send their patrols to stop me, Cormag and I would make short work of them!"

Layne took a deep breath, his hand rubbing at his eyes from behind the group, before he began to open his mouth. He couldn't let Rona get herself killed. He dropped the ball during the last skirmish. He had let her get too far ahead, he couldn't let that happen again...

"Splitting would be ideal... rest of the front team acting as their support."

Layne paused as he listened to Aleithe, crossing his arms a little bit as he nodded slowly, "...I agree, I think I should go with the front assault team. If they're going to be trying to drag attention away from the side team, they'll be taking the brunt of the damage, right? So it'll be better for everyone if I go along to make sure they don't get too overwhelmed, too fast."

"So, if we do split up, which group does the healer go with? Remember, when we split up, we'll have a bunch of enemies and probably walls blocking the groups. One group in going in without healing,"

Layne grinned wider as he turned to look towards Raynor, his hand rubbing at the back of his neck some as he did, "Glad I'm not the only one thinking about that issue. I don't like the fact that one side is going in without me, so... Make sure you all carry enough Vulneraries. If we meet up, let me know if you're particularly hurt so I can patch you back up."

He was certain that he wasn't going to let Rona go into the front lines without him this time. Letting someone die wasn't an option, he had dropped the ball last time, but he wasn't going to let it happen again...

"If we're talking strategy," Cassia started. "Aleithe seems to have the right idea. Rona and the newbie can keep them busy at the gates with some support, while everyone else gets them while their backs are turned. She seems to have a knack for that type of fight anyway. And besides..." Her attention turned to Cormag. "I don't think we'll be getting the wyvern in through the side entrance so easily." Cassia, for one, was all for getting to go in through the side entrance. If the bandits didn't know it was there, then that made an easy entrance for herself, and for all she knew, there would be a treasure room or something near the entrance. These bandits weren't an official contract or anything like that, were they? If not, she'd just have to take whatever she could loot from them as her paycheck for this job.

Leon listened to everyone, and tried to carefully consider what they were to do. It was clear the group was in favor of splitting up, and there seemed to be a good decision on where everyone had wanted to go, with only a slight bit of contention here and there. Looking up to everyone he said, "alright, we'll split up then. Rona, Layne, Yue and um, Raynor was it? You four will be charging the front. Remember, your our diversion force, so don't fight longer than you need to and don't put yourself in any unnecessary danger. The rest of you will be with me." With that, Leon motioned for his group to follow him before looking to the others. "Make sure to wait for us to get into position before attacking." The boy then looked troubled. "I can't really signal you for when that is, so..." he turned to Yue, saying, "when you feel enough time has passed, tell the others." Given she seemed to be the most acclimated with nature, he figured she had the best sense of time of the group. With a, "good luck and stay as safe as you can," the boy waved to them and then walked off with the rest of the group.

The guards at the front door seemed to be bored out of their mind. One particular bandit, wielding an axe, said, "I don't get it. Why are we here?"

The bandit he directed it at shrugged. "I don't know man. Sometimes I just lay awake at night wondering my-"

"No, I mean why are we guarding this gate." The other bandit had a look realization, and then shrugged again.

"To defend our fort?"

"From what? We're in the middle of god damn nowhere, with the only thing that could possibly attack us being too brainless to open a door."

"Well Dilbert's patrol-"

"funk Dilbert, he was probably eaten by a hound or something. Man, I joined this band because I wanted to go pillaging, killing some random adventurers, burning down houses without actually taking anything from them. Not stand door guard."

"Well man, you never know. It's a new day, who knows what could happen."

"Yeah, in Southern funking Aeora. I'm sure that we're just gonna suddenly get invaded by the Jouran army or something. Whatever," the man seemed disgruntled but then dismissed any further attempts at conversation going back to his guard duty.

[spoiler=OOC]

Alright so, the enemy doesn't know you're there and seem to be preoccupied with their own things, so have fun with that. The other group doesn't have a map just yet, but you can all see four bandits (1 mercenary, 2 fighters and 1 archer,) just pacing around the side entrance. Assume there's about four squares of distance between you and them, but they can't see you. Posting in the raid group isn't necessary this round, but you can, and its mostly on the diversion group here. So without further ado

No no no this was all wrong...She wanted to fight them on her own. There were too many of them, sending more just meant more people would get hurt. It was the opposite of what Rona wanted.

The Wyvern Rider had been certain she was going to die today. The intention was that she would keep the focus of the bandits, letting everyone else get in and take out the leader without worry. Her only job would be to survive long enough.

To make matters worse the healer was with them, meaning the others were in greater danger than before, and between Layne and Yue there were two frail allies to watch out for.

There was only one option. Kill all the foes before they could reach the others. She'd have to work harder than ever.

She patted Cormag and whispered to the beast. "Please don't let yourself get hurt, whatever happens, if worse comes to worse I need you to get the others out of here."

Then, to her allies, more specifically to Layne, she said, "If Yue gets hit, be sure to heal her first, she'd be in the most danger if they attack her."

And now all that was left was to wait for Yue to give the signal to attack and, when it came, Rona spurred Cormag into action. She swooped down upon the Fighter right in front of them and, preparing a Locking Strike, intending to limit the man's movements or kill him outright, and brought her axe down hard upon the bandit.

[spoiler=OOC]Rona will wait for Yue's signal, if Sethera's post makes that not work, I'll edit, but as of now she's going straight up to Fighter B and attacking with Locking Strike.

Wait, what? Yue was in the group with the scary man? But whyyy? He was scary. And he looked mean too. Mean and scary.

Her leader's voice snapped her out of her panicked daze. "Make sure to wait for us to get into position before attacking." The boy then looked troubled. "I can't really signal you for when that is, so..." he turned to the archer, saying, "when you feel enough time has passed, tell the others." Then, with a, "good luck and stay as safe as you can," the boy waved to them and walked off with the rest of the group.

The girl shivered. He was asking her to do this? To actually talk, to tell them to do something? Oh no, oh no, that was way too scary and not at all something she was fine with. But if Leon believed she could do it, then maybe...maybe she could? Or maybe she'd just fail and then everybody would see how horrible, terrible she was at telling people to do stuff. That was another reason she'd left her tribe. Because her father had always expected her to be fine with giving orders and she just wasn't. Also, it meant talking, which was another thing she was bad at.

But maybe she'd been sitting there and thinking for too long, because people were starting to look at her, and Rona looked impatient, and maybe--and then she took a deep breath and realized that no, it hadn't been that long at all. Calming down, Yue took stock of the situation and kept her eyes on the angle of the sunbeams that shone through the trees. She managed to listen to an entire conversation about how bored the bandits were with their post before she figured that enough time had passed for Leon's group to get into position.

The archer coughed lightly in an attempt to get their attention. "U-um, excuse me everyone. Not to interrupt whatever you're doing, but I think it's time for us to go," she finished in a meek whisper.

Layne mumbled softly to himself as they separated from the rest of the group, coming up to the front of the fort as he let out a little sigh. His focus turned back to the group going without him, a little sigh escaping him as he turned back to the group he was with. "Don't get too far away from me, guys. If we start to get overwhelmed, just back up a bit. We can afford to give them some space since we're distracting them for now."

He gave a grin to the others as he hefted his staff up into the air, the light from it thankfully not shining to give away their position, before he directed the staff towards the bandits...

"If Yue gets hit, be sure to heal her first, she'd be in the most danger if they attack her."

Layne nodded to Rona, his hand dropping down to lower his staff as he took a deep breath, letting the others prepare their charge once ready. His hands were shaking a little bit, but the healer attempted to hide it by tossing his staff from hand to hand, occasionally twirling the staff before giving a little toss to his other hand...

"U-um, excuse me everyone. Not to interrupt whatever you're doing, but I think it's time for us to go."

Layne gripped his staff tight as he turned to look towards Yue, "Like Rona said, if you get hurt, get over to me so I can patch you up. If more than one comes after you, I'll try to distract one of 'em," He flashed her quick grin before turning back to the combat, watching as Rona began her charge. He gripped his staff tighter, before letting out a little laugh as he charged right up behind her. His hand on his staff rose it up into the air, the tip of it glowing brighter as he directed the staff towards the Bandit B that Rona had attacked, "It's my time to shine!"

And shine he did. He turned his head back to look at the others behind him, "Raynor, mind covering my right?"

"If Yue gets hit, be sure to heal her first, she'd be in the most danger if they attack her." Rona said. Raynor nodded. That made a lot of sense, seeing as she looked fragile. Still... something felt... off. He couldn't place his finger on it, but he didn't like the way she said that. He really needed to keep an eye on this woman. Something was going to go wrong, he knew it.

"U-um, excuse me everyone. Not to interrupt whatever you're doing, but I think it's time for us to go." Yue said. Raynor nodded and gave a thumbs up, trying to look as unscary as possible. He had no idea if he was succeeding, but it was the thought that counted... right? Right.

"Gotcha, Snow Fairy," That was her nickname now, no changing it. He liked the way it sounded to. Rona and Layne charged ahead, both attacking a Fighter in front of them, before their healer called out to him.

"Raynor, mind covering my right?" That reminded him, he really needed to nickname them. Maybe he'll think of something during this battle.

"Consider it done!" Raynor commented as he ran ahead, seeing a mercenary close by. Spinning his lance, he got into his stance and stared down the merc. "Try to put up a fight," He taunted, getting ready for to counterattack.

[spoiler=OOC]So Raynor stopped right next to the right of where B was, and is designating C as his counter target.

The conversation the two bandit guards were having was interrupted as a man who was further ahead of them screamed, "oh god it's the Jouran army!" They looked to see one of the axe wielding bandits have his legs buckle, dropping his axe, as a girl riding a wyvern flew out of the tree line and struck down on him with her axe. The man tried to scream in pain, but it came out sounding more like a strained gasp. The man dropped to the ground as a pulse of white and blue energy flew from behind the wyvern into the man's chest. The one mercenary, who had been expressing boredom earlier, opened the door behind him, screaming, "we got company!" He had then decided to jump in on the action. Raising his sword up, he struck at the wyvern rider, barely dealing a glancing blow to the mount and rider, before they retaliated with an axe to the man's chest.

Motionless, he dropped his blade as not even a gasp escaped his unbreathing mouth. With that done, another sword wielding bandit ran up,trying to take on the other Jouran that moved up to fight alongside the wyvern rider. Striking forward with his blade. Though the attack struck true, it bounced off the man's armor, doing little more than feeling annoying to the Jouran man. Both of these Jourans though, would be met with something  far more painful. A bandit wielding an axe rushed towards the man in a burst of speed, slashing with his axe and having it plant into Raynor's side. Meanwhile, another axe wielding bandit started running towards the wyvern. While the healer was in his line of sight, he felt a bit apprehensive moving towards them, and ended up rushing the wyvern rider, striking them with an axe and dealing more damage than the sword bandit had.

While more of the bandits began to swarm in towards them, a group would appear from the left. The same group that the strike team had seen earlier.

When the group had left, Leon motioned to the others to follow after him, entering the side entance. Inside, there was not much to be seen as the room they entered into happened to be empty. However, there was definitely something to be heard. The people in the base seemed to be getting up to a clamor, hearing of the conflict going on outside. Getting their weapons, they all seemed to be heading for the door, and thus didn't notice the intruders. A man wielding a lance, seemingly groggy, asked one of the nearby bandits, "what is all the noise about?"

"Well, it appears we're being attacked boss."

"Attacked? Here?" He seemed wary to believe this. "By who?"

"Uhh, uh...Jourans, boss."

"Jourans?" His eyes perked up at this, as a smile crossed his face. "To think they'd come here all themselves. Get ready boys, we're about to score it big. Oh and tell the others not to leave yet. This is a fort after all, if the pretty Jouran want to play hero, they can come in here themselves."

Rona panicked when she didn't finish the opponent off in a single blow. The fact that Layne, the man who mostly healed others, was the one to kill the foe that Rona was unable to stop on her own. She was sickened. Sickened with herself that she was so weak she needed help from a non-combatant. Her father never employed healers on the battlefield, saying they were too fragile for that, saving them for outside the battle when worthy warriors could seek them out.

And here was one, helping her to fight...

She was snapped back to reality when an attack came. She instinctively counter-attacked and was shocked to notice that she managed to fell this one all on her own.

The small victory was short lived as she was struck with a stronger blow to the side. Wincing she looked over...and saw something horrific.

More opponents were already coming from that side. And with them she spotted her worst fear. An archer, heading her way. The moment he got within range it was over for her...So she had to kill as many of them as she could before that.

With a shout she pulled her axe from the previous opponent and, turning in her saddle, she brought her axe down on the Fighter beside her. Even as she brought the axe down she glanced over towards the sword wielder near her Jouran companion. He would surely realize she was a weaker target right? He'd be on her soon and she had to try and kill him when he attacked.

She had to do this, she couldn't let the others die for her, her only choice was to do as much to as many as she could. She couldn't stop. The moment she gave herself even a second to think of anything but attacking she'd think about the archer. And then she would be truly useless again.

Once the team at the front of the fortress had done their job in getting the bandits distracted, it came time for the other team to get to work. The team of Leon, Ada, Aleithe, and of course, Cassia, snuck in through the side entrance. There was bound to be treasure! And of course, bandits that needed dealing with. Cassia could hear a couple of bandits having a short conversation between themselves, in fact. They were probably the closest ones to the team.

"Sounds like there's two of them over there," Cassia observed. "Let's try to take 'em out quickly, so that they can't tell anyone else we're here. Let's get going." With that, motivated by riches, Cassia made the first move, making for the wall before peeking around the corner. Yup. Two enemies. Best to take out the closest one first. And so, Cassia took the initiative in this fight, coming out from around the corner and tossing a dagger at the man closest to her.

[spoiler=OOC]Cassia moved three spaces down, then three spaces to the right, and attacked the mercenary with her Iron Dagger.

Ada was displeased with sending both Rona and Layne to the frontlines, but it was out of her hands. Praying for the best as she followed Leon inside, she began to take note. The room they had entered to was, thankfully, empty. The only sounds they could hear were echoes of the troops heading towards the entrance or lazing about. The shaman figured that sneaking through the keep wouldn't be too difficult, considering there seemed to be an empty hallway that headed towards the back of it, but...

"Sounds like there's two of them over there. Let's try to take 'em out quickly, so that they can't tell anyone else we're here. Let's get going."

While Cassia had whispered that statement, the thief had still whipped around the corner without a care, alerting the brigands to their presence. Ada let out a low groan, tired of the suicidal antics that many of her fellow Iron Falcons exhibited.

"Leon, you and Aleithe should head towards the back... I'll support Cassia."

Following directly behind Cassia, she saw the red-haired girl's knives sink into a bandit's chest, stunned. Before the man had a chance to realize what hit him, Ada rushed past Cassia, dark magic in her palm. Using the close quarters to her advantage, the shaman attempted to slam her hand into the mercenary, aiming to kill him before he could move. While she couldn't see down the narrow hallway near her, she could see the axe-wielding man to the side, and took a stance in preparation to respond to him.

"We're in for it now, Cassia. Get ready."

[spoiler=OOC]Ada moves down 2, right 3, then down 1. She attacks the same mercnary as Cassia with Shade, and designates the nearby Barbarian for counterattack.

Aleithe was displeased at the decision to have both himself and Leon be on the same group, but he understood the reason why and accepted his leader's decision. Yue would be able to provide cover for both of the group's riders well, while Layne would prevent Rona from killing herself in one of her suicidal charges, and not to mention the current infiltration team were the one that had the most mobility in moving indoors. Still, Aleithe wished that he was able to watch over the distraction team since it's the most vulnerable of the group right now.

"Sounds like there's two of them over there. Let's try to take 'em out quickly, so that they can't tell anyone else we're here. Let's get going."

"Leon, you and Aleithe should head towards the back... I'll support Cassia."

Well, they sure lost that element of surprise quite soon. Cassia went in for an attack and got herself exposed, and Ada had to move forward early to cover for her. This left them with Aleithe and Leon, having to decide what to do next. Aleithe himself was fine with Leon deciding what he should do next, but the situation wouldn't let them have the opportunity to strategize anymore. Well, while Ada and Cassia deal with the closest enemies, Aleithe decided to follow Ada's suggestion and moved forward, though also making sure that he didn't stay visible on the corridors for long.

"Leader, doesn't this remind you of the past somewhat?"

It actually had been a while since Aleithe actually fought side to side on foot with Leon like this. He used to do it more on the early days, but now it didn't happen as much as the Falcons grew. Sure was nice to to fight together with someone so reliable once more, back to back.

Layne flashed a quick grin to Raynor as the man charged up again, giving a thumbs up as he turned his attention back to the battle. His staff hand twirled it around lazily as he watched Rona begin her next wave of attacks, watching as the Wyvern Rider locked eyes with the group approaching from the west...

"Oh gods..." Layne let out a little frustrated mumble as he saw what had Rona locked up, a little sigh escaping him. They had time before the archer could get to them, a little bit of time, at the very least... "Take out this group, we're playing fast! We're on a timer!"

Layne let out a little mumble as he rubbed at his cheek, taking a quick look around himself. The fighter to his left, and the barbarian to his right... He may have gotten himself in a bit deeper than he should have, all things consider. He gripped his staff slowly, turning to look at Rona, getting an idea in his head. A few soft murmurs escaped the Cleric as he sneakily pointed the tip of the Healing Staff towards Rona. The normally flashy light was softer this time, subdued by his quieter chanting as the cuts and bruises on Rona and her mount began to patch up and mend themselves, giving her energy to continue her fight.

Layne turned away from Rona to look towards Yue, briefly looking to make sure she wasn't injured herself for once he caught his breath. He cleared his throat, trying to not startle her as he waved over to her, "They've got an archer of their own coming down. If you can get a good shot and take them out when they get close, that would be appreciated."

[spoiler=OOC]

Layne is STANDING HIS GROUND and healing Rona for 20 HP, bringing her back up to full 22/22.

Heal Staff 1 is now at 30 uses remaining.

Layne is at 16/17 HP.

"Oh gods... Take out this group, we're playing fast! We're on a timer!"

Raynor was annoyed and in pain at the moment. Apparently, an archer noticed them, and everyone knew that the first target they would go for was the big leathery wings of the wyvern. He felt that should try and help out by taking that menace out, but he was preoccupied at the moment. Two of the bandits decided to gang up on him, and while he took only minimum damage from the sword wielder, the axe was more of an issue, so he wasn't getting away from them quick enough to take care of that archer.

"They've got an archer of their own coming down. If you can get a good shot and take them out when they get close, that would be appreciated." Oh, so Snow Fairy was an archer. Good to know. That knowledge alone was a load off of his mind. Now he could focus on these two meatshields. He was getting closer and closer to his goal. He would save his friend.

"Two vs one or one hundred vs one, the end result will be the same!" Raynor called out with the passion of a sun as he drove his lance at the sword wielder. "With me winning," All the while, he kept his eye on the axe user, trying to find an opening for him to take advantage of. They had to get this done quickly. He couldn't keep them waiting!

[spoiler=OOC]Raynor attacked Mercenary A whole making Barbarian A his counter target

As the wyvern rider's axe sunk into the fighter, he let out a cry of pain. While he was clearly wounded and with only arm that was still usable, the fighter brought up the axe and with a swift cut had managed to strike Rona. Despite his axe hitting true, though, his expression dropped as he noticed that all of the girl's wounds began to heal back. Despair filling him as he realized this was where he was going to die, and that there was no way he could fell the wyvern and its rider, in a moment of desperation the man, against his beliefs, started to rush at the healer. In a frenzy, he swung his axe at Layne, though, as if by divine grace, Layne had managed to avoid the attack entirely.

The sword wielding bandit, having been met with a nasty strike to sternum with a lance, struck back. Unfortunately his sword merely bounced off the man's skin with a "tink" noise. Backing off as the lance was pulled out of him, the mercenary looked at his options, and figured that his axe friend had this. As such, he charged the wyvern rider, brandishing his blade and striking at once, he managed to deal damage but only a glancing blow. The barbarian to the side of Raynor struck him with an axe, hitting true only to be countered with a lance to the gut.

As the group on the right had begun to close in on the two Jourans and healer, one of them had noticed something. A gleam of white was in the forest line, and one of the bandits said, "hey! They got more in the back."

One next to him said, "well, let's show them what they get when they mess with us Desert Riders!"

"Yeah!" Thus, the bandit group started to run towards the white haired person they could barely make out in the treeline.

Meanwhile, the archer started to grip his bow more tightly as he looked at his mark. He had never actually hunted a wyvern before, and he wasn't even sure how effective arrows were against their hide. Surely it couldn't be that tough, right? Wyverns weren't invincible, right? As the archer was trying to psyche himself up, he was met with a sudden startle as the woods behind them began to rustle. Clacking noises could be heard as footsteps made their towards them. Out from the woods, five skeletons emerged, making their way towards the bandits, likely attracted by the noise of combat. One such skeleton, more armored then the rest and with a menacing axe in hand seemed to make a noise that resembled laughing, its jaw continuing to clack around.

Leon nodded to Ada, thinking that she and Cassia were likely strong and fast enough to take on and get away from any trouble that they would run into. Walking alongside Aleithe, he nodded to his companion as they began to reminisce about the times of the past. To be honest, Leon felt it odd, both that Aleithe was fighting without Reina, and that he was now used to seeing a Kinshi in battle. "I just hope your footwork hasn't gone poor." While Leon said this as a joke, his voiced was filled with both concern, genuine, and was a bit too on the serious side.

The bandits seemed to be simply getting their gear ready, preparing for the inevitable assault by the Jourans. They were so focusing on preparing that they did not notice the sudden influx of people appearing through the side of the building. The sword wielding bandit let out a cry of pain as two daggers struck him in the back. The barbarian beside him looked over to him, his eyes going wide as a girl in dark, heavy, robes walked over blasting the sword bandit with a sphere of magical dark smoke. Going into a frenzy, the barbarian let out a roar, echoing throughout the entire fort. Charging at Ada, the Barbarian swung his axe, and while it had just barely missed something vital, it still had managed to cleave a sizable amount of damage into her. Though the damage was great, her opponent was as close as they got, and thus, Ada was able to strike the barbarian with her shade spell.

The rest of the people inside the building hearing the bellow all looked to wear it was coming from. After a moment had passed, a resounding, "kill them!" could be heard coming from the back of the building. Being spurred to action, the bandits began to go on the move, running towards the intruders. The archer had run up, raising his bow, and firing the arrow straight into the dark mage. Though the shot was clean and easily hit the girl, Ada's surprisingly stocky body had managed to absorb most of the attack.

Bad, bad bad bad bad bad. Rona barely even felt the damage, nor did she realize she was being healed. She couldn't focus she couldn't think she couldn't she couldn't she just COULDN'T.

Screaming in her head Rona swung her axe at the man in front of her, hoping to kill him, trembling with her eyes wide. There we so many, there were so many, there were SO MANY.

All her allies were going to die. Just because she couldn't convince them to stay back. They're all going to die when it should just be her.

WHY DON'T THEY UNDERSTAND?
She should already be dead. Long before she met Leon. She was a Pawn. You didn't throw away the Knight, Bishop, and Queen just to help a Pawn. Her purpose was to be sacrificed for victory. Why couldn't they understand that?
WHY DIDN'T THEY LET HER DIE?

Breathing heavily Rona looked around once more. They were all over the place, so many, so many, too many....But there was a way out, still, she could save them, she had to, it was the only way she could make up for all these failures.

"Everyone!" She called out, trying to sound as authoritative as she could. Even she was surprised by the strong tone of her voice. "Get back, find cover, you're too open, you need to re-position now."

[spoiler=OOC]Rona attacked Mercenary A and targeted him or, if he's dead, Barbarian A, as counterattack

As Leon and Aleithe began to move away from the other duo, the voice of what Leon assumed to be the boss rang throughout the fort. Turning, he could hear a large collection of noises coming from the south of the building and said, "come on, I think the others are in trouble." Readying his blade, Leon ran downward to see that Ada now had an arrow wound with an axe striking her, and silently cursed at himself. Still, not being any bit deterred, Leon rushed the barbarian, and with both hands held tight around it, he thrust the sword straight through the man's chest. As he pulled the blade out, the bandit slumped to the ground, and Leon let out a heavy breath, his arms stinging a bit. Looking to Ada asked, "are you alright?" before turning to see the oncoming swarm of bandits, letting out a small sigh.

[spoiler=OOC]

Leon used Blade Lock on Barbarian C for 14 damage. Barbarian C is dead. Leon has 20 HP left.

Leon is to the right of where the barbarian was.

Layne mumbled a tiny bit as he watched the 'wounded' Rona continue her fight, his own eyes starting to shine a little bit as he hefted his staff up into the air.

"Get back, find cover, you're too open, you need to re-position now."

He winced a little bit from the command, teeechnically, Rona was superior to him, but... His hand gripped his staff a little tighter as he glanced around, before calling out to Rayner, "Stay alive for a bit longer, I'm coming to heal you next, but right now, we need to thin their numbers. Stay alert!"

Layne began to take a half measure, his hand twirling his Healing Staff as he started to back away from the combat just a little bit, slipping down to where Yue was at as he turned back to the fighter standing in front of him. He hefted the staff up into the air, the air around it starting to shimmer lightly as he focused the energy towards the enemy, preparing the attack.

"No one dies on my watch."

[spoiler=OOC]

Layne moved down 2 and left 1, then used Disrupt on Fighter A.

Layne is at 15/17 HP.
