Work environment

What is your typical or ideal work environment? Do you like listening to music while doing your work? Or do you prefer peace and quiet? Would you rather be alone while doing your work? Maybe a snack or trinket to stimulate you? Or something completely different. Whatever the case, feel free to share your work environment, whether it be school or perhaps your job.

YCM is a hostile work environment.

For me to be at my best, I need independance and freedom to do my work how I please and at a pace i'm comfortable with. Basically, let me keep myself engaged, and I'll be at my best performance. The freedom I have is one of the few good things about my current job. I really like not being in a cubical or at a cash register all day with people breathing down my neck.

I work at a McDonald's. Life advice, never work there. It's the kind of hell I would only wish on these scumbag customers I have to deal with. Seriously funk customers.

Can confirm, food service and retail suck the big weiner.

I've got a corporate 9-6 job and I'll listen to music sometimes during work unless it's super busy.

But back in college, I couldn't play music while doing homework, it'd distract me. I think the difference is my willingness to do work. I hated homework, so daydreaming with music would be more tempting to do. With a job, I know my routine and can get into a groove, so it's harder to get distracted.

If I have to do homework or other similar busy work, I need to sit down somewhere and just do it. It takes extra effort to discipline myself and just get it over with.

For work (school and college work at least) I prefer a quiet environment or no one in that environment. At home, if I'm doing an assignment on my laptop, I'd rather there be no other people in there. That way, no one but myself could/would distract me. At college though, I'm perfectly fine doing my work despite other people in the room. The difference there and at home is that it's much quieter. Sure, you can still talk with each other, share stories, laugh, surf the web or whatever. But most understand that they have an assignment to complete.

Yeah, that's kind of what I do on a slow day or at meal time.

And occasionally while working on classwork or a project (unless it's last minute).

I remember a shift when I was waiting in the warehouse for a delivery with a couple of colleagues, so I spent that period using my phone. (For reference, it didn't arrive till like 5 mins before my shift ended)

current job isn't terrible, but my ideal job would likely be a janitor. i'm fine with cleaning up large messes, and performing minor odd jobs consistently, and doing so would allow me to listen to my music as i please. that's my ideal environment anyways. my least ideal environment is probably just about anything dealing with people, as most people in customer service can tell you, people are the worst part of many a job that you can/will ever take. i don't hate people, but i hate serving people, so hopefully avoiding that will become easier in the future.
