A simple hand-trap that can turn its effect into any Normal Trap in your GY, what could go wrong. Its effect is as simple as you read it, discard it, target a Normal Trap in your GY, this effect is replaced with that target's but after this effect resolves banish the targeted card. Example, if my opponent's monster attacks and I have Mirror Force in the GY, discard this card to target the Mirror Force, then this effect is now Mirror Force's effect, but it is still this card's effect so anything that negates Traps and their effects specifically won't work on this card or anything that is unaffected by Traps will be affected by this effect. This card is as splashable as it gets, unless you decide Continuous Traps or Counter Traps are more to your liking, but in most cases this card will be a 2 of in any Deck at a bare minimum, because it acts an extra copy of any Normal Trap you have. To clarify, the effect is gains will only an effect that can be applied at that time, and of course any effect that activates in the GY is not applicable to this.

If this card is in your hand (Quick Effect): You can discard this card, then target 1 Normal Trap in your GY; replace this effect with that target's original effect, but banish that target after this effect resolves. You can only use this effect of "Beartrapped" once per turn.

I'm going to focus my review of this on its use in Paleozoics, since that's what I know, and this is Advanced after all. I've been thinking about this card while making this post, and it has tonnes of utility.

  • Most obviously, it allows you to play around cards that your trap cards would be weak to, such as Royal Decree, or perhaps even Denko and Jinzo as long as you get something like a Canadia or whatever in the GY before those cards hit the field. In the mirror, it allows you get your trap cards' effects without giving your opponent summons. It is also obviously a Level 2 monster for Normal Summoning as an extra Rank 2 material. Looking at it this way, the card seems like decent a side deck card.
  • However, it's better that that. Perhaps less obviously, it allows you to play around certain restrictions that may exist on your trap cards, such as Heavy Storm Duster's no battle phase, if you really need the effect during your turn, or even D Barrier's HOPT, allowing you to declare, for example, both Synchro and Fusion against Destrudo ABC.
  • As much as you don't want to banish most of the traps in your GY, I think the strongest aspect of this card in Paleozoics is its ability to copy any of them. In the grind game you can often topdeck that one card that is just underwhelming and ultimately loses you the duel. But draw this, and it's like you just drew any card of your choice in your GY. That coupled with the speed that this card grants by not having to be set for a turn first is what makes this card amazing. Imagine drawing into this with Reckless Greed.

So halfway through writing this, I realised that with the wording this card has, you might not be able to choose new targets. I'm not particularly confident on rulings here, so simply put, what happens if you target Compulsory Evacuation Device in your GY with this card's effect? If nothing would happen, I would definitely reword it so that you get to choose a new target to bounce. Ask someone who's clever at rulings and all that how to do it if you're not sure.

As far as targeting cards is concerned, if the card you target leaves the GY before this effect's resolution, nothing happens check this link for more information http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Target

No. I'm asking if you try to copy Compulsory Evacuation Device, do you also get to target a monster on the field at the same time so that the "return that target to the hand." actually does something?

Your best approach at the card text is going for something like Double Spell:

"Double Spell" effect:

Discard 1 Spell Card, then target 1 Spell Card in your opponent's Graveyard; place that target in the appropriate Zone on your side of the field, and as this card's effect resolution, follow its card text as if you had used it yourself.

In the case of your card, it would be something like:

...target 1 Normal Trap in your GY; place that target in the appropriate Zone on your side of the field, and as this card's effect resolution, follow its card text as if you had used it yourself.

That way it won't be able to play around effect costs and conditions either, which is good in case there is a game-winning Trap with a heavy condition that you could simply skip through this card. Other than that, the card should be ok. I like that it effectively lets you a play a Normal Trap during your turn without having to wait for a turn but of course it needs a bit of setup by getting the Trap in the GY first; it may lead to power plays, but nothing too game-breaking AFAIK.
