Spellbook of Influence

[Normal Spell]

Target 1 face-up Spellcaster-Type monster you control; Special Summon 1 Spellcaster-Type "Prophecy" monster from your hand or Deck, then the Level of the targeted monster becomes the same as the Level of the Summoned monster. Once per turn, if you Xyz Summon a Spellcaster-Type monster the turn you activate this card: Draw 1 card. You can only activate 1 "Spellbook of Influence" per turn.

OCG Name: Spellbook of ...

Basically this was made out of acknowledgement of the forgotten Xyzs of the "Prophecy" archetype which are near impossible to make practically.

Last time I fought Spellbooks was when the Turbo version of Spellbook of Judgment existed, and no one made those. But that was back then, and things have changed at this point.

But yeah, at least Empress/Hierophant are actually doable [i mean, latter can technically be made in Dark Magicians, but they already got their own bosses that technically are "Prophecy" by virtue of their Japanese names]. I can see Hierophant being usable now since High Priestess gets used somewhat often; idk about Empress since only target for that is Emperor. I guess you can either use of their effects before Xyz Summoning and then mitigate any attack-locking effects they have (I know Emperor has one for his effect; not sure about High Priestess, but don't recall seeing one).

Either way, it does make their Xyz game better, so there's that; plus card draw is nice.

(As I noted above, there are some unrelated monsters that are also valid targets for this card to SS due to JP name, so...there's that too.)

Jeez there a lot of strange cards that are categorized as Prophecy cards I wonder if they made the archetype not worthwhile and awkward because of this. Furthermore, how could they mess up and make some of the D/D monsters share their spot in the archetype as Prophecy existed way before them? Was there really no other word in OCG that would describe some these monsters in similar way in naming? I guess I would want to add Spellcaster-Type "Prophecy" monsters to the wording.

It's mostly due to the "Mahou" string in their text, but somehow got translated to Prophecy on our end when they came out (let's assume either Tewart didn't know about the other cards, or simply disregarded that fact). That, and a lot of older cards were designed before Archetypes were a thing so their inclusion as Prophecy was an unintended consequence. D/D had no choice.

I don't think there is another native word for "magic" in Japanese (least one that isn't obscure); I mean, they could use the transliterated English word instead, but then it looks awkward. Yeah, that's the limitation with certain languages and often what happens when you end up translating stuff.

====

You probably might want to specify "Prophecy" monsters, but either way, a lot of the non-Prophecies aren't really usable so you could leave them off. Or just limit it to Spellcasters (granted, it will still include some random monsters that have nothing to do with Prophecy, but those shouldn't affect you much. At least the D/D Sages will be gone.)

Putting aside the issues with "Prophecy" monsters, I cannot but picture this card competing for space with Spellbook of Knowledge/Rudra: while Rudra gives you draw power, this gives you an Spellcaster Xyz. Actually... it could complement the Spellbook Magician engine, rather than clash with Rudra; I mean, it could make use of dead Magicians remaining on hand or field if you ran out of Rudras first, and summoning a Rank2 isn't that bad, bonus if it's a Spellcaster like Socuteboss or Shining Elf for the card draw.

Have you considered instead giving both monsters a Level equal to the sum of the Level of the target monster + the Level of the summoned Prophecy monster? That way you can reach higher Ranks using Spellbook Magician, and deals with the issue of running suboptimal high-Level Prophecies to access those Xyzs with awkward and/or high Ranks, namely Empress. It will mess your Rank7 plays if you are using High Priestess, though, and Rank7 has quite good Spellcasters such as Norito, Big Eye and the Ebon Magicians.

Actually I haven't considered the sum of Levels... I might have to look at their card pool a few times to see if I like that idea or not, but then again it opens up a wide array of Xyz to choose from if you don't mind missing out on the draw. I'll give that one some thought.
