Land of Wonders, Land of Marvels~ (Wonderland series)

So yea, its a series based on Alice's Adventure story (but differ slightly, adding my own story to it), the playstyle is pretty simple: Relies heavily on Alice herself, while the entire cards revolve around bringing Alice, her dark counterpart, and the Queen of Hearts, dealing huge piercing and/or small effect damage, but the Alice's accomplices has an effect of bringing Alice herself straight from Deck or GY, or even support Alice with various effects (dodge Alice from effect, or Alice cant be attacked), but still trying to stick on the original lore. So this series doesnt really care about tempo or field pressence, as long as u can deal damage and do the deadly combo each turn, u should win even if u are overwhelmed by your opponent's field. Reason is because i find the swarm and spam combo playstyle in recent cards kinda boring, thats why i take another way around, countering the fast and spam play with damage instead. But its not pure burn series, only exploiting the multi-attack + piercing damage, and small burn. With the new recent orica template i made, so lets get to the cards~

First, text fixes:

Caterpillar

Cannot be attacked --> cannot be targeted for attacks

There is something I don't have fully clear from the effect:

The way it's written, I understand that what lasts until the next SP is the effect-gaining effect, but once that effect is gained by Alice, I would think it remains even after the next SP; is this the way it's intended?

Hatter

"During either player's turn (Quick Effect):..." is redundant, it should just be "Quick Effect:..."

March Hare

The parenthesis on "from you hand" aren't used in effects. Parenthesis on summons are only used on inherent summoning conditions (e.g Cyber Dragon).

Cheshire Cat

Same remark as Hat on the "Quick Effect" line.

If "Alice in Wonderland" you control destroys an opponent's monster by battle: You can add this banished card to your hand.

Tin Soldier

You missed a "s" in "all monsters" xD

Queen of Hearts

There is no such thing as destruction by an inherent Summoning condition, so it's better to turn the self-Summon effect into a proper effect.

If you control 2 or more monsters, including at least 1 "Alice in Wonderland": You can Special Summon this card from your hand, then destroy 1 card from each side of the field, except this card.

Also a small mistake with the symbols on the burn effect, it should be a ":" since there isn't any cost in between:

Each time a monster is destroyed: Inflict 500 damage to your opponent's LP.

Or you can make it not start a chain, like Trickstars:

Each time a monster is destroyed, inflict 500 damage to your opponent's LP.

Into the Looking Glass

You also missed an "s" in "Fusion Monsters".

Teatime Party

It's better to not make the ATK boost start a chain; it would be weird anyway since when exactly would the effect activate? Also, again a missing "s" xD

If you control "Alice in Wonderland", all monsters you control gain 500 ATK and DEF.

Dark Alice

Must be Special Summoned by the effect of "Into the Looking Glass". This card's name becomes "Alice in Wonderland" while it is on the field. If this card is Fusion Summoned: Change all monsters your opponent controls to Defense Position, then, their DEF becomes 0 until the End Phase. If "Alice in Wonderland" you control attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent.

Alice of Hearts

Again, it destroys through a summoning condition. It should be safer mechanic-wise if it sends the monsters to the grave instead. Also use the same text fix on the renaming effect as Dark Alice's. For the last effect:

If this card is Fusion Summoned: Destroy all other monsters on the field, and if you do, inflict 500 damage to both player's LP for each card(s) destroyed. Then, if your opponent still controls 1 or more monsters, the ATK and DEF of those monsters become 0.

Now, comments on individual cards:

Rabbit Ear Attendant:

It is rather bland as a mere E-Teleport for Alice, and one that just so happens to conveniently be searchable by Tenki and Broadbull (granted, banned in OCG). Not saying this is wrong, but at least give some flavor with an extra effect there.

Tweedles:

I feel these may be providing a bit too much advantage. I mean, they get themselves in the grave to search for Queen, then later on they turn into a +1 Summon of Alice and Queen, which sets up for Alice of Hearts... it makes it a bit too easy IMO.

All in all, I can see big advantage gains, some recursion with Hatter and Cheshire, while Queen and Alice of Hearts keep destroying whatever your opponent controls; Dark Alice comes to assist with the monster disability, but unfortunately (or fortunately for the opponent) it won't work on Link Monsters. I find amusing how some cards like Queen and Exploration have double roles by providing removal and/or card advantage. By looking at it, the archetype looks rather strong and oppressive, but if it's intended to stand against top tiers, I guess this is what it takes to fulfill that goal. I wish I could say more but I would have to give it a test to the Deck to get a more accurate feel of how strong it can be.

My favorite cards are Tin Soldier, even if it has a rather lackluster effect, mostly because of that sneaky Level5 for Cyber Dragon Infinity while Hatter keeps it coming; also Dark Alice because of its summoning method. Also I like the artworks of those 2 in particular, but I want to add that all of them are great.

What u said

Yeah, i was rushed and it looks like it suffer a heavy text error . . . anyway thanks for pointing out.

Reason why i choose "treated" instead of "becomes" on the fusion monster cuz i want double name (treated name and original name), but i think it cant exist in YGO ^^;

Updated*

> Fixing a lot of text errors

> Adding grave effect to Rabbit Ear Attendant (White Rabbit).

> Changing Tweedle Dum & Tweedle Dee effect, now it wont generates huge value.

> Changing Queen of Hearts effect, staying to the original lore and to prevent double effect with the Field Wonderland Exploration.

> Lastly, added Card Knight Token as a bonus (under Main Deck Monsters, below Queen of Hearts).

You didn't clear up the effect of Caterpillar, by the way xD

Speaking of it, I think it and Tin Soldier deserve a second effect, mostly to be consistent since so far all monsters of the archetype have at least 2 effects

also because of favoritism towards Tin Soldier :v

Rip, after recheck, i didnt update the Alice of Hearts too (but i already fixd the text on those cards, not the text on description)

EDIT: as for Tin Soldier, imma rethink of second eff, probs weak eff or maybe good eff but ended up lowering the stats (cuz level 5 machine already a thing to begin with)

Updated*

> Fix description text

> Adding 2nd effect to Tin Soldier, also adding more lore text to it to enhance the story behind the effect.

> Added Dormouse, now the Teatime Party accomplices is completed! (Mad Hatter, March Hare, and Dormouse)

May or may not be, adding more characters from Alice's Adventure story, depends (if im too lazy, or run out of artwork :p)

Also as a bonus, imma share the template i made (in psd) for those who are interested, click here, tho it doesn't support Pendulum, also hasn't fixed rank stars. You just need the Matrix Regular and Stone Serif font and poof*, it works.

  • 3 weeks later...

This is absolutely stellar!  I've always wanted an Alice in Wonderland archetype, but never imagined someone would put such cleverness and effort into its design.  I think it seems decently powerful, though I do have a few minor suggestions.  There are typos here and there, but I understand the frustration of fixing all those little things, so I'll ignore them.  Some suggestions are simply minor PSCT corrections:

+ Caterpillar of Riddles +

"This card's ATK and DEF is halved, cannot be targeted for attacks, but does not prevent your opponent from attacking you directly."

"This card's ATK and DEF is halved, also, it cannot be targeted for attacks, but does not prevent your opponent from attacking you directly."

Just PSCT.

+ Alice of Wonderland +

(This card name is always treated as "Alice in Wonderland".)
If this card is Summoned, except by the effect of "Alice of Wonderland": You can discard 1 card; add up to 2 with a different names of "Dancing Unicorn", "Humpty Dumpty", "Snow the White Cat" or "Wonderlion" from your Deck to your hand. If this card is destroyed: You can Special Summon 1 "Alice in Wonderland" from your Deck or GY. You can only use each effect of "Alice of Wonderland" once per turn.

This was a very subtle one.  If she were always treated as "Alice in Wonderland", her original name would never apply to any effects in the game, meaning that her first effect and hard once per turn clause would be nullified.  So in essence, she must be both at all times in order to function properly as you designed her to.  One word makes all the difference.

+ Jabberwock +

"Can attack all monster your opponent controls once each. Any battle damage this card inflict to your opponent's LP becomes 500. If this card is destroyed while a player does not control "Alice in Wonderland": Halve their LP."

"Can attack all monster your opponent controls once each. Any battle damage this card inflict to your opponent's LP becomes 500. If this card is destroyed while a player does not control "Alice in Wonderland": Halve their LP. You can only use this effect of "Jabberwock" once per turn."

Just a small assessment here.  I think that his LP halving effect could be used for a very unfair loop.  All it would take is a method to repetitively summon and destroy him to halve your opponent's LP multiple times in a single turn with relative ease, which could be broken.

+ Bandersnatch +

"Your opponent cannot target cards you control for atatcks or card effects, except "Bandersnatch". If this card is destroyed while a player does not control "Alice in Wonderland": Inflict damage to their LP for each card(s) in their hand."

Same issue as Jabberwock.

Overall, I love the design and artwork of this archetype, especially your full-art template, and can't waste to try it out with friends.
