Gora the Influential Turtle

WATER Level 3 [Aqua / Pendulum / Effect] 1100/1100  Scale: < 2 >

Pendulum Effect:
Monsters with 1900 ATK or more cannot destroy monsters by battle. Once per turn, if you take battle damage from your attacking monster: You can place 1 Pendulum Monster face-up in your Extra Deck into an unoccupied Pendulum Zone on the field, whose ATK is equal to or lower than the damage you took (except "Gora the Influential Turtle").

Monster Effect:
The effects of all monsters on the field whose ATK is 1900 or more are negated (but they can still be activated), except "Gora the Influential Turtle".

The idea is that Gora can influence the field further (hence the name)

It is not so much a floodgate as I'd like to think it is a control-ish based card. It has a somewhat easy work-around but it should prove effective in a few situations. Also, yes, it is meant to be able to force your cards onto your opponent's Pendulum Zones. Some combos might arise from this xP

The effect negation is supposed to work just like Skill Drain's btw, just noting that.

Anyways, thoughts, comments, suggestions, etc welcomed and encouraged :3

Adds more trollishness to Aqua Level 3's arsenal for Ties of Brethren :P As they already have:

  • Any of the Level 3 Graydles (since bigger stuff are going to be nothing more than beatsticks while this Gora is around these can come in handy to walk over your opponent)
  • Maryokutai (to stun any Spells)
  • The original Gora Turtle ( to promote attack lock if say you don't have Aquarium Stage or something of the likes)
  • Yomi Ship (not as practical as the Graydles, but it is an option to get over newly formed beatsticks.)

Gora's Pendulum effect of slapping on another Scale may be pretty widespread, but I suppose it is of usual 1 time use and Pends are getting nerfed hard so I guess it is okay. Can't think of where it would go wrong... Yet.

Good card, IMO. The Pendulum effect feels a bit on the casual side, in the sense that the more relevant decks should be able to deal with it with ease; but that Monster effect... damn, it looks good xD it may be a watered down Skill Drain, but if you can back up Gora with stuff like Moon Mirror Shield and whatnot, they it may prove to be an effective floodgate. If even the Statues, with 1000/1000 stats sometimes manage to win games, this should have about the same chances. By the way, it should exclude itself from the Skill Drain effect, otherwise, if it were to reach 1900+ ATK with temporary stat boosting cards/effects... I don't know what would it exactly happen since it would try to negate and enable itself in a loopy way.

Yeah the Pendulum Effect is meant to make things like Amazoness Sage, Heraldic Beast Basilisk, Madolche Pudingcess, or Hyper Hammerhead, all a bit more worth it. They trigger without dying in the process and you use the damage to complete the Pendulum Scale with a dead Pendulum; turning a +0 Kamikaze play (which is sometimes a -1) into a potential +1 that maintains field presence.

It is meant to be more acceptable than a Skill Drain since weaker monsters still go literally under the radar, and stronger monsters could kill this turtle before proceeding, effectively using up their Battle Phase. This would probably have been problematic prior to Link Rules because it'd be just a bonus monster being brought back every turn, but now it has to be worth it more than other potential Pendulum Summons xP

Yeah I should exclude this card as to not cause an eternal loop there..... gonna edit that.

Though on the other hand, if your opponent attacks Graydles with something above 1900, they won't be killed and won't trigger. Then again, one could say keeping field presence and popping your Graydles the way you choose to can also be a good thing.

Thanks xD

If OG Gora Turtle is considered, that means this card is doing its job hehe.
