Freedom Tournament

[spoiler=Rules]

All YCM and RP section rules apply.

I have final say in any disagreement. This extends to any co-host as well.

If you're inactive for over two weeks without a reason, I can and will take control of your character to get them out of the way. If that means killing them, then so be it.

[spoiler=Background] “Nobody can really pinpoint the exact moment where Marks appeared in humankind, but the first cases have been narrowed down to about 50 years ago. A Mark (uppercase) is a special type of birthmark that manifests in about twenty percent of the population at birth, and is a side effect of the condition known as xenosyndromia, or 'Outsider Syndrome'. People with this condition enjoy longer lives, and have been reported to have enhanced senses and physical capabilities overall. Outside of those few general similarities, the syndrome seems to act a different way according to the body and mind of the patient; some have reportedly been able to increase their body mass multiple times, others had mastery over the elements and more.

In popular culture Mark Abilities were dubbed a superpower straight out of a comic book, regular people fearing and admiring those with Outsider Syndrome alike. Unlike comic books, however, superheroes and supervillains never really appeared, for they didn't have time to: thanks to the terrorist attack dubbed 'Bright Night' twenty-seven years ago, world politicians have agreed that Outsiders, as they had been discriminatorily referred to, were too dangerous for the sake of mankind.

The 'Outsider Restriction Law' was signed world-wide, which prohibited those with the syndrome to use their Mark Abilities under any circumstance, or they'd face a life-time in prison. Society took long to adapt, and many lives were lost in protest. Nowadays there are special detainment centres for offenders of this law, with prison budgets almost tripling those of before the incidents.

The current American government has recently allowed the director of the St. Patrick Outsider Detainment Institute (SPODI) to host a particular event, one that would be broadcasted throughout the entire world as the first of its kind: the Freedom Tournament.

Although information has been mostly restricted, what we know about the tournament is that it'll consist of a series of trials in life-or-death scenarios meant to test the willingness to survive and reintegrate into society of the prisoners, with the grand prize being none other than freedom!...” - The news report went on about some of the more infamous residents of the detainment institute, before changing subjects altogether...

[spoiler=Setting]

In a not-so-distant alternate future, hundreds of miles away from any continental landmass, the massive American-owned island of Carcer serves as the home of the equally towering St. Patrick Institute. A spread-out six-stories complex, it is built around a sprawling field that serves as a courtyard. Around the facility, a lush, dark forest hides it from outsider eyes. Finally, the entire island is elevated several feet off the ground, making sea access (and escape) impossible.

As for security, the promise that a single prisoner has yet to escape serves as a testimony to its quality. Not only have Outsiders been hired as special security around the perimeter, but it is said the warden has a terrifying ability that keeps even the most reckless prisoner in check. Rumors say the hallways shift at night, and that any attempt at an escape tunnel seals itself off as soon as it is left alone.

[spoiler=Database]

Outsider: A person afflicted with the disease that takes hold of a fifth of the world population, xenosyndromia. Symptoms include a longer life span, higher-than-average physical capabilities and senses, as well as what's known as a Mark ability.

Mark Ability: A variable in the otherwise-constant xenosyndrome, a Mark is a special birthmark that manifests on the body of an affected individual. It takes a particular shape that relates directly to the power available to the patient (i.e., a flame-controlling Outsider might have a spark or blaze-shaped Mark somewhere on their body.). The use of Mark Abilities is punished by the Outsider Restriction Law with a lifetime in jail, regardless of circumstance.

St. Patrick Outsider Detainment Institute (SPODI): The highest-security Outsider prison in the world, this institute is home to every single character in this RP.

Bright Night Incident: Twenty-seven years ago, a tragic terrorist attack marked the fate of Outsiders everywhere forever. As reports indicate, at 3:26 AM, Outsider Aerio Leikos and an unidentified accomplice managed to use their Marks in tandem to annihilate four city blocks in an instant, ending countless lives. The known perpetrator's Mark had the power to manipulate gases in the air, which he used to cause a massive gas leak across the entire area. Allegedly, the accomplice had proceeded to ignite the gas, getting caught in the blast as well. Their body was completely evaporated, and no hope of identifying them remained. Aerio Leikos was sentenced to death, and served that sentence a year after the incident.

Freedom Tournament: A first of its kind event, SPODI has organized a gauntlet in which every prisoner is required to participate, with the promise of freedom if they win. Killing is permitted and encouraged: there are no allies but yourself.

Full Name: Gordon Alexander

Age:34

Sex:Male

[spoiler=Appearance] At just around 6 feet tall Gordon is no shrimp. Upon incarceration, he began to rigorously train his body so as not to be seen as a weakling. He has ham shank sized arms and thighs to match. His skin is the color of hot chocolate and his head is completely bald. He has two words tattooed on his knuckles “Love, Here”. He tears the arms off all his jumpsuits so that his muscles can be seen, despite getting reprimanded for this almost every time.

[spoiler=Bio] Gordon was always the top of his class. Smartest in any endeavor and willing to work long hours on both homework and extracurriculars. This left him almost no time for friends so he dug his nose into the pages of comic books. Books which soon became contraband as the classic tales of the X-Men became reality and people who were marked became outlaws if they used their abilities. But Gordon was different, he was smarter. He was determined to not get caught using the abilities he had been using since a young age, so after Bright Night he continued to use his telepathy and to a lesser degree his telekinesis to get what he wanted because, face it, who was going to know it was him. He grew into a wealthy and well-respected man because he always seemed to know exactly what people wanted to hear. And it was good. Until he read the wrong mind.

The mind that had been training for things like this. You see it was easy to capture pyro kinetics, aqua kinetics and the like because you could see when they used their abilities. The problem with telepaths and telekinetics is that they can be more discreet, smarter. So, the various world governments had been training agents who could sense invasions of the mind and were keen to mental manipulations of the physical world and Gordon was done in. Forced to abandon his beautiful wife and three kids. Forced to denounce his own kind and go quietly into a jail cell for the rest of his life. Or so he thought.

[spoiler=Personality]

Gordon is a headstrong busy body. He is not content to be doing nothing. Always reading, fidgeting, talking he must be in action. Even sleeping is a tumultuous time as he struggles with falling asleep, and at that point his dreams are wilder. Before his time in prison he was a happy person who aimed to please. His abilities as a yes man rocketed him to the top of his career as a defense attorney. It seemed he had a knack for finding evidence no one talked about and always being able to tell if someone was lying. But the shift between sweet kind outside Gordon and prison Gordon is night and day.

Gordon receded into himself like he once had in his youth. He kept his mouth shut and thanked those around him to do the same. He smiled less and brooded more. Having the mind of all around you had previously seemed like a joy and a meal ticket in life but now it was the most significant burden. Everyone around him was carrying the hurt and betrayal of the world. The only person they could blame for their blight was dead and so they internalized the hatred. Hating their marks and everything it represented. Some wanted revenge against the unmarked. This knowledge made Gordon a husk and callous man who shut off the world. When he heard about freedom he wondered if he even wanted it. Because how could he face his family the way he is now.

Mark Shape/Location: An almond shape on his temple on the left side of his head.

Mark Ability: Telepathy/Telekinesis [spoiler= “What’s Powers are those?”] Gordon’s mark provides him heightened brain capabilities that manifest themselves in the real world that allow him to mentally interface with it. This allows him access to the thoughts in the forebrain (what anyone is thinking in the moment) and with focus the rest of the mind (Physical contact and a strong relationship helps). It also grants him telekinesis. This literally puts his mind over matter and allows him to move objects without physically coming in physical contact with them.

Misc

Favorite Song: Thinking Out Loud – Ed Sheeran

Favorite Cereal: Cinnamon Toast Crunch

Favorite Band: Switchfoot

Wife’s Name: Gabriella

Children: Sophia, Carson, and Maggie

Mind reading is hard to balance, since it's so powerful, but the fact that, other than that, he only has telekinesis to aide him in combat, it evens out. The rest is pretty well done as well, so I have nothing to complain about. Accepted!

Yeah, I was thinking about that too and you're totally right but the only combat use it could possibly have in battle is predicting your opponents attacks which is Overpowered and basically impossible in an RP. Thanks can't wait to start.

[spoiler=Bad to the Bone]

Full Name: Augustus McGurdy

Age: 20

Sex: Male

[spoiler=Appearance:]

kSRPu0O.jpg

[spoiler=Bio:]

Augustus was born and raised in Britain, to Irish parents.  He was usually the odd one out wherever he went, growing up with such a strange accent, but it was even worse if people were to find out that he had a mark.  The name outsider was far too true in his case.  Not to mention, for Augustus, it was a fairly obvious mark, standing out for all the world to see, had he not had a shirt on.  And kids his age, they were cruel.  It was always a game to them, to find the mark...to find the freak.  Non-Outsider groups of kids on the playground played patrol, making sure to figure out who and who wasn't marked.  It was easy for them to find Augustus'.  Seeing as how he never really moved to a different city, he was shunned for most of his school life, along with all the other marked kids. However, he got along with those like him pretty well.  They were the one's to always take his side, to protect him.  They were all he had in this world, besides his family.

However, after the Bright Night, everything just took a turn for the worse.  The animosity towards Outsiders rose, and there wasn't a day where at least ten of them had died around the world.  They were now seen as a plague, something to be rid of for the betterment of mankind.  It was disgusting.  Augustus never really used his mark all that much, only during times when he had taken a nasty dive, or would've broken something in his body.  It was the perfect, inconspicuous ability.  That all changed one day when he noticed a schoolmate who had gone missing in the aftermath of the Bright Night was getting beaten senseless in an ally by a group of his peers.  It was the first time a bone had protruded through his body, in the shape of a sharp weapon.  Augustus almost killed a boy that day, not much older than him.

He and his friend were both sent away after that, many witnesses to profess the fact that the two were illegal Outsiders who had used their abilities in public.  All Augustus wanted to do was lead a normal life.  Now he was being sent to prison for an act of self-defense that anyone with a knife would have done.  He was just being sent to a special prison for something he was born with.  Something that he couldn't change.  If he couldn't change...the world would have to.  Whether through Pacifism, or Force, Augustus would find an answer in the new tournament being held for the freedom of one Outsider.

[spoiler=Personality:]

Kind, but always slightly reserved and quiet, Augustus is the type of kid you would say hello to in the morning, and goodbye to in the evening, but never speak a word in between.  He likes it this way though, and he likes to keep to himself for the most part.  It's not that he doesn't like people, or is particularly introverted, it's just that most things occupy his attention more.  He loves to draw and doodle, but hasn't gotten the right facial structures in his sketches.  It's always the same solemn face that he draws, over and over.  Well, it was the only face he could make in the mirror anymore, so he didn't have a really good reference.  If he had any sort of pet peeve, it would be people who get way too close in his personal space.  He hates when people touch his skin, and gets extremely upset at anyone who dares to commit such a crime.  The punishment is often just a slow, burning glare.  He rarely raises his voice, and has only ever raised his hand once.

While being very quiet, Augustus is rather sociable, and likes to keep silent company with others.  Spending time without awkward silence is the best way to show affection, in his opinion.  You can really figure out the soul of someone, if you stare at the sky for an hour with nothing but the sound of each other's breath between friends.

Mark Shape/Location: Filled in segments of Spinal column running down said area

[spoiler=Mark Ability:]

Intra-Bone/Marrow manipulation - Augustus can spontaneously generate bone structures, and bone marrow from his skeletal frame, intricately enough to not destroy vital organs, or various systems in the process.  He can layer bone structures on top of each other, making his already tough skeletal system even stronger.  He is able to generate bones at will, in and shape and size he wants.  Bones that break the skin do not cause bleeding.  Bones are able to be ejected from his body at rapid speeds as well.

You are both accepted, and added to the OP. This is my main prisoner, although I'll be in charge of a lot of npcs as well.

[spoiler=El Cid part 2] Full Name: Roderick de Vivar

Age: 23

Sex: Male

[spoiler=Appearance]

eF6vNaf.gif

Roderick weights 160 pounds and is 5'8 feet tall.

[spoiler=Bio]

Roderick was born in Spain some years after the Bright Night incident. His parents were forced to move to the states when anti-Outsider laws in Europe started rounding them up like cattle, instead of the more forgiving Outsider Restriction Law in America. His original first name is actually Rodrigo, but he learned about that by the time he went to jail for the first time. He was a hoodlum and a punk, always getting in fights after school and even joining a gang for some time.

Even after his parents pleaded with him countless times, Roderick still hung out with the same hooligans. It felt great to be part of a powerful, fearmongering group. They answered to him, almost as an unofficial leader. So, when a certain run-in with the police left them cornered, they all looked up at him for guidance. Roderick made the worst possible decision that day. As he was being brought in, handcuffs almost on his wrists, the young boy used his Mark Ability. He mortally wounded the officer arresting him and a second one, while the sword's terriying magic caused the rest of the officers (and his gang) to run away in terror.

Roderick was finally brought in, after weeks of chasing him, one night while he slept in a hotel room. He spent the next two years at SPODI, until he heard word of a certain event taking place...

[spoiler=Personality] Roderick is confident and cocky. Even when in jail, he still picks fights from time to time whenever he feels like his pride was insulted. Always thinking he's above anybody else, Roderick hates teamwork and will scoff at the idea. This doesn't mean he's a loner. He can make friends, and can usually be seen with a couple of them at any time. The thing is, he doesn't trust them to do anything for him.

When the going gets rough, however, even Roderick can lose his cool. He's quick to lose confidence when outmatched and, as a consequence, loses a lot of his fighting prowess due to how his Mark Ability works. Still, he doesn't give up. He prefers to die trying than to live with his head down in shame. All in all, a pretty passionate individual.

Mark Shape/Location: Wrists. Twin swords.

[spoiler=Mark Ability – Tizona and Colada]

Roderick can summon and control the two legendary swords, Tizona and Colada. They are wide longswords that are meant to be used with two hands, yet Roderick can wield just fine with one. This is because the swords make the holder stronger, as well as become sharper and harder depending on the holder's emotional state. A confident, brave user (like the swords' most famous owner) can swing them around like they didn't weight a gram, yet cut through anything like butter. The swords themselves are imbued with another magical prowess: they are inherently terrifying. Any weak-willed person that catches a glimpse of their blade will lose whatever fighting spirit they have. This is less effective on Outsiders, for some reason. Whoever holds these blades can hear faint whispers from time to time. If one were to concentrate on those whispers, some words could be made out.
