Ascend Summon

Ascend Monsters are a special kind of Extra Deck mechanic, in which you only need one single material. In addition, to that, all Ascend Monsters describe different situations/scenarios that must be fulfilled in order for you to Ascend Summon the material.

 

Flavor(?): Monsters do not have to rely solely in teaming up with others to get stronger (such as with Synchros or Fusions), but personal growth is also important. It is a straight-up "Evolution" mechanic.

 

Flying Cloud Whale

LIGHT Level 6  [Aqua / Ascend / Effect] 500/2800

[[if an effect would add 2 or more monsters from your GY to your hand, and 1 of them goes to the Extra Deck instead, you can use the second target as a material for this card's Ascend Summon immediately after that effect resolves]]

Once per turn (quick effect): You can Special Summon 1 "Fish Cloud Token" (WATER, Fish, Level 5, ATK/ 400, DEF/ 600). You can select the targets for your opponent's attacks.

 

^This card works off Salvage, Recurring Nightmare, Beckoning Light, Pendulum Back, or Madolche Queen Tiaramisu (under Madolche Chateau),

I know most of those cards usually end up being ditched from builds nowadays, so here's a boost for them in the form of some general attack protection which can also support Token Stampede, Token Sundae, Mastar Boy, or Survival's End. Finally, the Tokens are higher Level than normal.... IDK what exactly that could do, maybe Synchro options, but it's out there just in case.

 

 

Hypersonic Duck

LIGHT Level 3 [Winged Beast / Ascend / Effect] 1700/700

[[If your opponent controls a monster with 3000 or more ATK, use "Sonic Duck" as a material during either player's turn while an effect has its Attribute treated as LIGHT]]

If this card battles a monster that was on the field when it was Ascend Summoned, that monster's ATK becomes 0 during damage calculation only. If this card leaves the field: You can Special Summon 1 "Sonic Duck" from your hand, Deck, or GY.

 

^In this example Sonic Duck went so fast that it caught the speed of light and ascended matter against the foes it was facing.

Kind of a shoutout to Flash xD
Though this is a more situational card because you pretty much need DNA Surgery or Scroll of Bewitchment to do it.... This one is mostly just to give an idea of what Ascend Monsters can be like.

I think this method has some good potential to actually "retrain" monsters. I love that it is situation based, instead of being able to summon it any time, and the basic evolutionary concept is always fun. Hope this actually gets added!
