Any advanced [insert mechanic] Summon methods are not exclusively Special Summons.

Ritual, Fusion, Synchro, Xyzs, Pendulum, or Link Summon always say in the rules that they are a kind of Special Summons.

What if you instead had the option of using up your Normal Summon on them?
Like, you can make a Synchro Normal Summon or a Fusion Normal Summon. A proper [insert mechanic] Summon that burns your Normal Summon and walks past Special Summon restriction effects?

Do you think this would make much of a difference on techs or cards and etc?

Pendulums would be a able to do a strange simultaneous Normal Summon.

Current support iirc usually specifies "Special Summon from the Extra Deck" That includes Link era zone rules. Which I'm not sure how to feel about.

Normal summoning from the extra deck would make a massive difference.

The balancing factor on those cards being accessible without search or drawing is that you need to fulfill specific conditions to use them.

If I could tribute summon Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Unless you just mean not counting as a special summon. That would matter like 1/50 games and the person on the other side would be pissed.

That's not the implication I tried to make here.

I meant Doing the proper Summons but making them burn up your Normal Summon per turn and treating them as such on top of their proper Summon name.

For example, Crystal Wing would still USE materials Synchro + Tuner for 8 Levels to be brought out. But it'd be treated as a Normal Summon and a Synchro Summon, instead of a Special Summon and a Synchro Summon.

Then what's the point of burning your Normal Summon for accomplishing the same thing? Playing against Special Summon negators, I guess, but idk if it'd be helathy for the game to be able to summon a Crystal Wing without worrying about SS Negators.

Hmm... I guess it's cool to be able to put an Extra Deck monster directly in a MM Zone at the expense of your Normal Summon, but other than that... I cannot think of any big implications. Giving up your Normal Summon/Set is kind of an important loss.

Oh, also it would let you play Extra Deck monsters along Lose 1 Turn, or play around Special Summon locks (e.g. Vanity's Fiend), but then again, both players can do the same.

The important part here IMO, is that it IS a loss, because of all the benefits you just mentioned.

I just thought it'd be a neat benefit to have as something inherent in the game.

It also would make sense that the game could drive away from Special Summons a little bit, by giving the tools that enforce Special Summon-heavy to also back Normal Summon up a little bit.

Besides, some effects that prevented, say, just Synchro Summon, or just Fusion Summon, have a little bit more merit to them because stopping Special Summons in general now no longer blocks everything else by default.

I think Konami could maybe potentially implement something like this someday since they always have a perk in a new mechanic that messes with cards/mechanics that used to have list attention. For example: Xyz Summon messing with Level caps (Level Limit Area B, Gravity Bind), Links messing with position changing (Book of Moon).

I don't think that it would make all that difference with regards to general Special Summon locks (for example Pachycephalo), since you would have to Special Summon the materials anyway. However, a lot of Extra Deck restrictions (for example, the 800 ATK 1000 DEF Vassals) are worded "cannot Special Summon from the Extra Deck" etc, and therefore you could use this mechanic to bypass those.

Obviously however, in a world with this rule, most of these restrictions would simply be worded "cannot Summon from the Extra Deck".
