Scarlet Devil - Touhou Scarlet Devil Mansion-themed

An archtype spawned from talking to some guy on Reddit and mixing up TVTropes pages. Ain't those always great? Some guy on Reddit posted a bunch of custom Yu-Gi-Oh cards, so I went in to give some basic criticism, and came out deciding "eh I'll make my own version too". Then somehow mixed up Remilia and Flandre as somehow having the trope "Cast from Hit-Points" but turns out they don't, so I got no idea where I got that from, but it leads into the gimmick of the archtype; everything deals LP damage to you. It doesn't cost, but it deals damage.

My excuse reasoning is that it's based on spellcards (no, not those ones) having a time limit. Also a little bit of vampire inspiration in there.

This archtype contains two sub-archtypes; the Level 1 Fairies, Level 2 Fairies, Level 3 Fiends and Quick-Play spells are under "of the Scarlet Devil" while the Level 4 Spellcasters, Xyz (except Remilia herself) and other spells are "Scarlet Devil's". This was intentional I swear.

 

The Level 1-3s all have the ability to Special Summon in some way on summon (or flip, in one case), and then then ability to search in some way when they're destroyed. The fact that it's on summon and not Normal Summon means that with a number of them in the hand or GY, bringing out a large number is rather easy (though most of them will be these weaker level 1-3 monsters). Fairy Maid is also a tuner, so that I can pretend I didn't do that on accident I can throw stuff in later the deck can make some Synchro plays as well.

 

The Level 4s are all DARK Spellcaster-types - original, I know, but I wasn't sure what else to make them that would also be consistent. I almost named Patchouli "Patchouli - Scarlet Devil's Magician" before I realized the archtype can of worms that would open. They each have an ability when summoned (an attack boost, watered down Solemn and extra NS respectively) and then an advantage generating effect when destroyed (monster from GY, spell from GY or draw 1 card). Sakuya will also skip the current phase when she's destroyed - however this also affects your own turn, which hopefully should stop it being so overpowered while also making her an interesting card.

 

The Rank 4 Xyz each have an effect to detach material and take 1000 damage to use, and an effect that uses the total effect damage you've taken that turn for a powerful effect (non-targetting destruction and a special summon search). The heal in Remilia's effect is there both to help sustain yourself, and because she's a vampire. You know, blood sucking and all that (or tea drinking, in this case). Remilia's first effect also has the caveat of effectively dropping her attack by 1600.

 

With the exception of Watch of the Scarlet Devil, which is an offensive/defensive tool, all of the spells are either for searching, dealing with the effect damage or utilizing it against your opponent.

 

Recommended other cards to use are things that negate effect damage (Pikeru's Circle of Enchantment, while slow, could be useful. It's a double edged sword though, as the lack of damage means you can't use the Xyz effects, some of the spell effects, etc) or rarely redirect it (most cards specify damage from your opponents cards, however Barrel Behind the Door doesn't care about that so could be an effective cards to burn your opponent with your own damage).

 

The whole thing is open to criticism and subject to editing. Obviously, being a numbers heavy archtype (because of all the LP damage) it's entirely possible, if not likely, that the damage will be too high, too low, or just out of whack in general, so will need some tinkering to get right.

If this card is destroyed: You can Special Summon a "Scarlet Devil" monster from your deck in face-down Defense Position, then take 500 damage.

When this card is summoned: for the rest of this turn, "Scarlet Devil" monsters you control gain 500 ATK, then take 500 damage for each monster you currently control. If this card is destroyed: Add 1 monster from your GY to your hand.

When this card is summoned: Declare 1 Attribute. Once per turn, if a monster with that Attribute would be summoned while this card is face-up on the field: You can negate that summon, and return that card to the hand, then take 1000 damage. If this card is destroyed: Add 1 Spell card from your GY to your hand.

This card gains 800 ATK for each Xyz Material attached to it. Once per turn: You can Special Summon 1 monster from your hand, deck or GY with ATK less than or equal to the amount of effect damage you've taken this turn, then gain that many LP, up to 1000.

You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; Destroy 1 card on the field, then take 1000 damage. You can only use one effect of "Flandre - Scarlet Devil's Secret" per turn, and only once that turn.

Activate only if you took effect damage this turn: Gain LP equal to that effect damage, up to 2000. If you would take effect damage from a "Scarlet Devil" card, and this card is in your GY: Banish this card from your GY, then negate that effect damage.

Quick-Play Spell

 

-Effect-

If it is your turn: target 1 monster you control; It can attack twice this turn, then take damage equal to that monster's attack. If the targeted card is a "Scarlet Devil" monster: The damage you take is halved. If it is your opponent's turn: it becomes Main Phase 2, then take 800 damage for each Phase skipped.

Continuous Spell

 

-Effect-

If you would take damage from the effect of a "Scarlet Devil" card: Negate that damage, and place 1 Mist Counter on this card. During your End Phase, place 1 Mist Counter on this card. If this card leaves the field: Take 1000 damage for each Mist Counter on this card. This damage cannot be redirected or negated. You can only control 1 face-up "Scarlet Devil's Mist".

Scarlet Devil's Temper

-Effect-

If you would take damage from the effect of a "Scarlet Devil" card: You can discard 1 card from your hand OR destroy 1 card you control; the damage is inflicted to your opponent instead. You can banish this card from your GY and target 1 face-up "Scarlet Devil's Mist" you control; remove all Mist Counters from that card.

Scarlet Devil's Mansion

Field Spell

 

-Effect-

If you take damage by the effect of a "Scarlet Devil" card: Gain LP equal to half of the damage you took, and inflict damage to your opponent equal to the LP you gained. Once per turn: If a DARK Spellcaster-type monster you control is sent to the GY: Special Summon 1 "Scarlet Devil" monster with a lower Level and different Type to that monster from your hand, deck or GY. If this card is destroyed: Add 1 "Scarlet Devil" card, except "Scarlet Devil's Mansion", from your GY to your hand.
