Just kidding, second app coming your way!

[spoiler=Coach Fuji]

Name: Kentaro Fujiyama "Coach Fuji"
Gender: Male
Age: 36
Occupation: High school Gym Teacher | Duel School Teacher | Semi-Pro Duelist Sponsor

[spoiler=Appearance]
hHWGRmV.png?3
Coach Fuji is a tall, and built man; standing tall at around 6'1" tall. When it comes to his semi-casual attire, and oftentimes his formal attire when he's not on the court, Fujiyama is almost never seen without sporting a sweater, or sweater-vest of some sort. However, not seeing him working out or on the court is a rarity. Even when it comes to dueling, Coach Fuji is often seen wearing his athletic garb; typically his old, retro gear: a bright orange-and-yellow jersey with neon cyan short-shorts, wrist bands, and a sweat band. While Coach Fuji needs glasses, he only ever wears them when he needs to read or work through forms; he never opts for contact lenses on the principle that "the irritation becomes a distraction".

[spoiler=Personality]
Coach Fuji is passionate for his work and takes it very seriously. Be it in dueling, in work, in life, whatever it is, he holds strong beliefs ideals and standards for how a person conducts themselves, and makes an effort to apply them to ever aspect. Because of this, Coach Fuji has very high standards for how he conducts himself, and is always in search of bettering himself as both a player and as a person, and believes that if someone wishes to become the best at one thing, they need to be the best they can be at all they do.

Some might say that Coach Fuji possibly takes his own work just a bit too seriously. The name "Kentaro Fujisama" does not exist outside of his line of work, his history as a pro duelist, his duel school, or anything. Coach Fuji's work is his life, and this comes with its own line of benefits and downsides. Coach Fuji's passion in the pro circuit and his dueling is very evident, and he becomes a man that doesn't have much in the line of hobbies outside of this part of his life.

In his work, though, Coach Fuji is always looking to help others, and give people the opportunities they deserve in their life; seeking for the good in everyone.

[spoiler=Biography]
Many years ago, the name "Kentaro Fujisama" had a prominent place in the pro circuit. Starting out as hopeful rookie, the underdog many players rooted for, Kentaro went into the dueling scene with nary a rare or powerful card to his name, and made a lasting impression on tournaments and events alike. There wasn't a fan or pro alike that hadn't heard of his name, and even if he wasn't the top player, he was looked for and found in many major tournaments and scenes. Kentaro Fujisama was slated to be the next big name in the record books, another plaque in the hall of fame.

But his career was cut short. Days before a major tournament, Kentaro's father had passed away from cancer. With no time to process, the emotional impact was too much and his dueling began to suffer greatly because of it. Since then, his dueling career took such a steady and sharp, with loss after loss, that it wasn't long until Kentaro was forced to drop out of the professional dueling scene entirely.

All he had left was his exercising, and that's where Kentaro retreated to feel alive, normal, and at peace again. It was his way of coping with his loss, with the failure of his career. It took some time to bounce back from this hit. Working as a janitor at the high school, Kentaro was inspired by the physical education program, and managed to get involved himself, getting to know the students more as he went along. It wasn't long until the existing PE Teacher needed to retire, and the choice in replacement seemed simple, yet a little unconventional. A janitor becoming a teacher? Nobody else on the staff would have guessed.

Bouncing back from his low point, helping students not only with their physical activity but with keeping up with them on their daily lives, Coach Fuji was eventually reintroduced to the world of Duel Monsters. Coaxed back into his dueling days by some students that recognized him, some fans of the old legend, Coach Fuji went from dueling with the kids and giving them pointers now and then, to managing a dueling club at the school to helping students practice for the pro leagues, to founding his own small-time Duel Gym off-campus outside of school hours. With his small amount of success, Coach Fuji found himself able to actually sponsor some of his students into the pro-scene, including a new hopeful rookie with a troubled past from the streets. However, he has a long way to go from becoming as big as any of the other sponsors...

[spoiler=Deck]
Ultimate Ultra Athlete
Coach Fuji, naturally, mains his trusty, yet old, U.A. deck. At first he liked the deck for its aesthetic, for how its themes aligned with his interests, but as he played the deck more and more he just couldn't put it down. The U.A. deck is centered around team work; monsters tagging out to adapt their strategies and encounter new threats. Because of this adaptability, the deck becomes a versatile mid-range strategy that can switch between a defensive, control deck to an offensive battle deck at the drop of a dime.
Ace: Really any of the monsters. Coach Fuji personally identifies with Rival Rebounder.

[spoiler=Written Customs]

[spoiler spoiler=Yuna Kitamura]

Image: https://i.imgur.com/WebqZq0.jpg

Character Quote: "Step Right Up! Who wants to Duel? Everyone's got a chance to be the Winner!"

Name: Yuna Kitamura

Age: 17

Gender: Female

Race: Cybernetic Human

Occupation: Hostess for a carnival

Personality: She is a lot like Yuya Sakaki from Arc-V. She doesn't like to think negatively, and will always try make every situation fun for everone! She never dislikes a Duel, and never makes her opponent feel like they stand no chance. This does not mean she will be a pushover either. Instead, she makes sure she puts forth a great effort, but also ensures that the opponent has as much fun as she is. Her monsters help with this, since most of them are cute, fun, carnival themed creatures. But don't mess with her friends. She will stick up for her friends even when they don't stick up for themselves.

Bio: She was not born in Domino City. In fact, she was born in Duelist Kingdom. Although, she has had temporary homes in lots of places. The reason for this is because her father owns a traveling carnival. She does not mind moving around so much, in fact, it's all she's ever known. She constantly helps out with the carnival, and when she turned 16 her father allowed her to become the hostess of the entire event. This was not a surprise to her though, considering she helped with any task she could ever since the age of 5.

At age 10, she discovered this thing called "Duel Monsters." When she asked her father about it, he said it would never be allowed in the carnival he ran. This only intrigued her more. So, she did something she regrets to this day. She told her father she was visiting a friend when she was really going to buy herself a Duel Disk. But, the problem was that she was using a shady outlet to get it for cheaper. They were called "Dueling Expo" or Dueling Experiments. They had tricked this poor 10 year old girl into believing she was getting a Duel Disk so they could test a new cyber-visual product. She did get a Duel Disk at the end, so she believed the illusion even more thinking this happens to everyone who gets a Duel Disk. It wasn't until she got home and her father questioned her about it that she realized she had been duped.

Needless to say, she was punished for disrespecting and lying to her father, but, when her punishment was over, she made it her goal to make Dueling part of the carnival. The original reason was because there would definitely be a loser and that would go against the "Everyone's a winner" vibe her father established. So, to counter this, she found a way to make both player's feel like they won. She would compliment other player's combos, she would offer to help them become a better duelist, and also, most important, make sure both players are having fun. She then waited until now to tell her father her ideas for adding dueling to the carnival. After all, she is the hostess now, and she found a solution to his original problem with it. He agreed, and now people enjoy their carnival even more.

Appearance: She wears bright, festive, fun, colors to complement her lifestyle. She has blonde hair, with hazel eyes, and a skin complexion that glows. The clothes she wears are usually a bunch of different colors added together, but her favorite color combo is gold, orange and white. Her headress is not actually a removable accessory. It is a permanent fixture that allows her to see things a lot more clearly. It also will help her be able to see the solid vision images created by the duel disks without needing to equip hers. This means she can see other people's duels without activating her duel disk. These cyber attachments also have the neat perk of allowing her to cybernetically change her clothes.

Deck: Yuna's deck focuses on Special Summoning. Link, Pendulum, Xyz, Synchro, Fusion, even just revival or retrieval effects, she loves it. This is also the easiest way to ensure her opponent has as much fun as her. Without driving them into insanity because they can't do anything, or because she has way better cards, her cards have relatively low attack, except her bosses. Like all her monsters, her bosses have ways of Special Summoning archetypal monsters, but they have different sub-effects.

I cannot accept this application. There are several points that break from the setting or are not given an in-world justification, and then points of improvement. Here are the main points:

  • Tuners, Synchros, Xyz, Pendulms and Link cards do not exist in this timeline. They cannot be used in your Carnimal archetype.
  • No background on how Yuna got her cybernetic implants. It needs to be a good reason, since while it may be the 2020s, we’re not in such an advanced state of technology like 5D’.
  • No explanation on how she got an invitation to the gala.
  • Just describing her as being like Yuya from Arc-V is not an acceptable way to describe a character. Then later on the personality description just turns into an advertisement for her card archtype.

In another point, we now have a Discord! We will be using it to discuss both Codex of Shadows and casual conversation. Feel free to join us by clicking this %5BLink%5D.

[spoiler=Finished App: Hiyaki Fukuyo]

"I did it because I wanted to. What other reason do I need?"

Name: Hiyaki Fukuyo

Gender: Male

Age: 28

Occupation: Rare Hunter

Appearance: Rather average in height, Hiyaki's blue hair barely pokes above any crowd at about 5' 6". Even though it's a mess, it mostly hangs around his face down to his neck rather than point anywhere close to up. He has dull green eyes, set into an olive face. His entire body is rather tanned, but due to the covering clothes he generally wears, the face is what most people tend to see, even though it normally wears a rather non-committal expression. Even bored, some might say. Said body is, despite being rather muscular from his regular trips to the gym, still about average in size, with him weighing in at 158 lb.

His Gala outfit is a rather simple black 2-piece suit, with a white shirt and gloves, and a black tie to fit with theme. He also wears shades, as a potential cover for his eyes to do some scanning of the facility. However, he normally wears an open grey trenchcoat, with the shirt and pants beneath varying in design and shading thanks to his whims, but always retaining blue and/or green in some description. Said shirt is normally light in color, whereas his jeans are darker, and his trainers are entirely black and white.

Personality: Hunger. Hiyaki may be in a world where people don't always get what they want, but the omnipresent hunger has never faded since his early years. He always needs a few more valuable treasures, a few more thousands of dollars in the bank, a few more people at his back, obedient to his every whim. Of course, this materialistic desire must not be confused with stupidity or rashness; knowing that it takes time and effort to get these things, Hiyaki has been disciplined and has disciplined himself in the art of waiting, of analyzing, of thinking, to result in the ultimate pay-off of even a little solace from his all-consuming need. His calm facade has become such a habit and been in so much use that one can barely see the hunger any more, except for a momentary flicker in his eye in public, or catching sight of him trying to satiate the hunger in private, revelling in what he has and quietly despairing that his needs are not yet fulfilled. Perhaps you might even push Hiyaki too far away from his desires, bringing him to breaking point, but otherwise his mask remains intact. He can try to be sociable to get information, but with that mask already on, it's hard to put on another. As such, is mostly monotonous when out and about, efficient, cold, un-emphatic and single-minded. But, despite this, he is not entirely rational, as his need underlies everything.

Biography: Hiyaki grew up on the coast in a relatively normal family. There was his full-time computer-worker father, who tried to spend time with the rest of the family without much success thanks to the long hours and his own investment in his work. The mother stayed at home, but was also kept working mostly on a degree in law, leaving their two kids, Hiyaki and his 2 year older sister, Erika, to play around as they wished. Erika was the more adventurous and explorative of the duo, whereas Hiyaki was content just spending time with his sibling and his Duel Monsters cards. She humoured him with the occasional duel, borrowing one of his extra Decks and letting the young duelist tell her off for her numerous mistakes, but more often she was the one dragging him along on one of her many escapades outside their virtually abandoned house.

One fateful evening, while the two were swimming alone while clothed on the rough beach, a large dip in the sand caused a current to drag the incapable 11 year-old Hiyaki below the frothing waves. Erika, by now 13, saw this while nearby, and immediately knew what must've happened. She dived down before she too was caught in the riptide, but unlike her brother, she had a plan. Shoving the weakly kicking Hiyaki out of the dip, pulling away his Deck from a loose pocket in the process, she then tried to make her own way out, but was met with less success. Hiyaki scrambled ashore, and waited for his sister to surface. He was still waiting after he was pulled away by his finally investigating mother a few hours later. Eventually, the coast guard found her body, still clutching onto her brother's sodden Deck, and both were returned to the traumatized family. Hiyaki tried to move on, but felt an empty hole where his sister had been. As time progressed, and nothing he tried ever filled that hole for very long, he became desperate to actually feel complete. His sister's company was temporary, like everything else, but there had to be something more. He began to take possession when people weren't looking, and seeking positions of power with varying degrees of openness. Surely he could feel satisfied again?

He pushed through school, and eventually got a job at a company under Industrial Illusions. His interest in the game of Duel Monsters remained solely because when he played, he felt the emptiness a little less, and besides, winning felt even better. However, he had a tendency to steal things that caught his eye, either at his workplace or on his various exploratory jaunts around town. This varied from the opportunistic snatch at an unguarded store to the break As he worked and stole, he was noticed and eventually contacted by those in the black market and asked to act as a supplier, using his connections and skills. The pay from his job was good, but his new employers promised better. And so began his life of crime in earnest, stealing items of varying worth, retaining them until their satisfaction wore thin on him, and then delivering them to the Rare Hunters if they did. As he rose up the ranks, he abandoned his original job at Industrial Illusions to fully concentrate on this new profession and hopefully rise even higher.

Now, his collection that he hadn't sold had got him noticed again, and he was invited to the Gala hosted at Lake Pegasus Centre in Kaiba Land. He might as well go; after all, who knows what he might find there, and what opportunities might arise?

Deck: Hiyaki uses a Gishki deck (without the Xyz, and all of the Gishki Rituals are now called Evigishki), focusing on rapidly getting out Ritual Monsters by sacrificing his LP and monsters in order to boost his own and destroy his opponent's advantage, both on and off the field, mostly by shuffling cards into the Deck and drawing new cards to supplement them. There are also a few more generic WATER monsters and LP gaining cards within. His ace card is Evigishki Zielgigas, a heavy beatstick and means of draw power.

xridi3Y.png

Dance of the Aquamirror

Continuous Spell

Ritual Monsters you control cannot be targeted by your opponent's cards or effects. Once per turn: You can place 1 "Gishki" card from your GY on top of your Deck. You can shuffle this card from your GY into your Deck, then target 1 face-up WATER monster you control; it cannot be destroyed by your opponent's cards or effects or by battle until the end of the next turn.

Decided I would try to reapply for the revived version with a new character, again a Rare Hunter.

When this card is Summoned: Immediately after this effect resolves, you can Normal Summon 1 "Gishki" monster from your hand, except "Gishki Herald". You must control another face-up "Gishki" monster to activate and resolve this effect. Once while this card is face-up on the field: You can target 1 "Gishki" card in your GY, then declare 1 card name; reveal the top card of your Deck, and, if it is the declared card, add that target to your hand.

Accepted. You will find yourself promoted to the Rare Hunter rank on the Discord.

Hm. Interested, but unsure. Might I ask how many Rare hunters are already present? Because I don't want to make a Rare Hunter and be told there are too many already, but I also don't want to fish through the thread for each accepted application and piece it together.

We only have two at the moment, actually. We could use a few more.

Oh, fantastic! And, since most Extra Deck types aren't available, would Monarchs be out of place/has someone else taken them? I've got a couple of ideas bouncing around here and I'm not sure what would work best...

That’s a question that Void is better equipped to answer than me.

Imo, though monarchs would exist here, not the deck i’d choose. Too.... on the nose, i guess.

I'm fine with Monarchs. Just make sure any custom cards you make to fill the gaps are disclosed in your application.

[spoiler=The Young Don]

Name: Karlos Mendez
Gender: Male
Age: 20
Occupation: Private Security & Rare Hunter

Appearance: Karlos stands at about 6'0, about 180 pounds. He's predominantly Italian and Saxon. Long black hair runs from his head to his waist in a thick, shiny braid. His intact eye is purple, with a telltale crescent of insomnia underneath. His right eye has an eyepatch over it, requiring him to swivel his head around to get a good look at his environment. There's an eye of Ra etched on it with white gold, which does add some class to it. He tends to dress in a suit with an open collar, but on his days off he'd sooner wear a leather jacket and a nice white t-shirt.

Personality: Karlos is a jaded and easily angered individual. He can only keep his cool for so long before his emotions get the better of him. Not that it's always bad, he could get angry or just excited. When he's emotional, really any kind of emotional, his volume control suffers somewhat. Though he's mostly self-serving and not exactly a 'good' person, he has some moral boundaries that he refuses to cross, and a professional edge that he tends to need. He has a great deal of loyalty to the Family and his clients, but the latter only lasts so long as they remain clients...

Biography: Karlos was born into "The Family," a sort of white-collar Italian mafia. Since he was a child they raised him as lovingly as if he were their own. They taught him everything he knows and more, and he was a valuable pair of hands and eyes throughout his childhood. Eventually, they decided to go legit, but the change bothered some of their associates, and the Don was taken out, quite brutally. Karlos stepped up as the new Don, and nobody challenged him, especially when he decided to honor the old Don's last wishes and turn The Family into a proper business. And so, they became a private security firm, damn close to the best there ever was: efficient, negotiable, and with a very good track record. Sure, they did a little quiet Rare Hunting on the side, but who doesn't really?

And so, their reputation grew so rapidly that they began getting contract work with Kaibacorp, and doing a damn fine job of it. Inevitably, Karlos was invited to the Gala so as to ensure ongoing business between Kaibacorp and The Family... and ongoing business they would have...

Deck: Karlos wields a "Sanctuary in The Sky" Deck, comprised all but entirely of fairies, and focused around generally the enemy's plays while doing everything to force his own. Counter Traps are abundant. His signature monster is, unsurprisingly, Master Hyperion.

Yeah, about that... I really could have used this response BEFORE my Christmas break ended. Now, school's coming back, I've revived an old RP on another site, and I don't have the time to participate. I appreciate that you did want Karlos after all, but it just won't work right now. Best of luck to you all regardless.

I apologize for the delay and wish the best for your own project. I will keep Karlos in the accepted section for whenever you wish to participate again.

First off, I must apologize for the delay in my reply. At this current time Darthhoyl, I cannot approve this application in its current state. While you may be trying your best, the quality of this application is sub-par. It represents a lack of development in basic writing skills that are essential in participating in text-only roleplay, but nowhere at the poorest levels I have seen (and even participated) in the past on YCM. With work and practice, I believe you can overcome this and produce good work. The character of Elton Jones himself is also a clear example of a Mary Sue: a character that exhibits cliches to seem cool, too perfect and overpowered. If you intend to resubmit Elton, he will require a strong rewrite that balances these out. I recommend this Mary Sue test on Springhole.com as a starting point.

Although they made a canon appearance in the anime, would it be permissible to make a character who runs a Deck based around the Cyberdark or Predaplant archetypes?

First of all, sorry for my VERY late reply. It has been busy.

I'm sorry, but you can't use either archetype. Cyberdark is a subtype of Cyber Dragons, and manga Yuri still uses Predaplant.
