You have a letter delivered to you by a private courier today. You open it and examine the contents.

Greetings.

Every year, Kaibacorp’s histories division hosts the KaibaCorp Archaeological Gala, a Black Tie Champagne Reception in conjunction with the International Conference of the Council for Archaeology (ICCA). The Gala is the field’s eminent social and networking event of the year for the East with nearly 2,500 high-ranking figures from the global world of archaeology including historians, preservers, scientific examination and private collectors.  With the global Archaeological community united at this International Conference, the world’s greatest experts of our ancient past know the annual ICCA Gala is a not to be missed event.

It is our pleasure to invite you and one guest to join Mokuba Kaiba and our team at the Gala. Details of the event are as follows.

[You note that the event is in three days’ time, at Chateau Maximillion of the Lake Pegasus Centre, which is a part of Kaiba Land’s International Resort.]

As you may know, the KaibaCorp Archaeological Gala, sponsored by KaibaCorp, Industrial Illusions and the Maximillian J. Pegasus Memorial Fund, continues to be hosted at the Chateau Maximillian. KaibaCorp ensures it is a superb venue for the gala event. The Chateau is featured within the confines of Kaiba Land’s Lake Pegasus Centre. Appropriate vehicle access and parking will be made available, including VIP passes to access the park after hours.

The night’s event will headline the first public display of the Millennium Items found in Egypt this year. These unique treasures are some of the finest examples of craftsmanship ever produced in the ancient land of the pharaohs, complimented by one-of-a-kind texts that have deciphered their history.

Black Tie is the recommended attire for the Gala, including tuxedos or cocktail dresses. Duel Disks will not be permitted. Instead, holographic tables will be provided in a designated game room.

We would be delighted if you where our guest at ICCA 2017. Once we have received your confirmation from the provided contact details below, we will arrange to deliver you ticket(s) to you personally in advanced of the event. Complimentary transportation can be requested with your reply.

We look forward to receiving your confirmation, and to spending a memorable evening as you as our guest.

Sincerely,

Gekko Tenma

Head Manager, Lake Pegasus Center, KaibaCorp Int. Holdings.

Preludes

[spoiler=Prelude]

Long ago, when the Pyramids where still stone…

“You dared to challenge me, little mortal.”

The city of Memphis burned to illuminate the dead desert night behind the battle that in sewed the duo. Slithering through the sands to encircle its prey was the terrible demon. A blackened giant cobra, standing ten feet tall, sprouting 4 arms from a man-like torso. As with each anger-fuelled breath the handlebars on his scaly head contracted and expanded, while crimson eyes burned to scorn the man before him.

This man kneeled low in the sand, every exposed piece of the tanned skin not left untouched by scrapes, burns and cuts. The turquoise shendyt around his waist was shredded in several places. Gold wrist and ankles bands had been sliced apart, just holding on by the tightness to the body.  Drawing the strength, the head draped with downwards brown hair half way down his back managed to rise to the venomous beast.

“I did nothing but give your people a great gift. One that would have seen the people of Egypt stand tall amongst the world.” It spat out and sprayed acid onto the sand. It bubbled away and excreted the most unpleasant smoke one could imagine.

Two blue eyes pierced through a golden eye mask with a long protruding point above the nose: not much unlike the bill of the African Ibis. His other hand grasped A single moment of strength saw him erect him back onto two feet, using the Was spectre in his right hand to hold against.

“Now Thoth, the distrust you fostered will be humanities undoing.”

Thoth uplifted the Was’ bottom fork and directed its jackal’s hook right at the serpent, keeping his centre.

“Vapzuhm--”

Vapzuhm had no more patience for this pathetic mortal, summoning a torrent of darkness from one of many claws to obliterate him.

Thoth would never allow his death to come so easy. He also didn’t intend to die to what he saw as nothing more than an oversized cobra with rejection issues. From the jackal-shaped hook came forth a ball of gleaming light, splitting the beam into two around him. Another of Vapzhum’s claws reached forth to intensify the darkness. Then another, and another, funnelling the entirety of his inner darkness. A single moment of panic swirled around his head: How could one single human repel such power?

The intensity of the energy blasted a sandstorm around them. Thoth’s spell held up against all that the demon could throw at it, with only a little more effort required with each thrust. Then with one big push, Thoth unleashed the full might of his spell: the sceptre’s ball of light blossomed into an incandescent shield, bouncing all of Vapzuhm’s energy back in a violent storm. Before the beast could even react he was blown off the ground and through the wall of sand to crash-land meters away. Thoth leapt into a quick pursuit, covering his mask with his right arm as he passed through the clouds and to the twitching wreck he had created. With Vapzuhm in a violent, convulsing seizure from the blowback of his own power, Thoth knew it was his moment.

The pronged forks of the Was held itself upright when slid into the soft sand. Thoth reached for the book under his right arm which had somehow not slipped from his grasp throughout their duel. To him it was such an alien artefact: The people of Egypt had only began to write on papyrus scrolls, let alone using the leather that was only used for furniture and waterskins. To him binding papyrus into a volume of pages, protected in a purple leather and gold-ordained hardback cover, was a marvel. There was no time to bask in its genius however.

Flicking the clasp open the pages fluttered into life, turning with an ethereal breeze to the middle pages.

“Atum, by way of sacrifice, I bring mankind to The Tree Of Life. Unto The Sacred Mysteries I burn our darkness away, so I may stand behind your throne on this day of driving back disaster…”

“You cannot...!”

“…so sail forth the right and truth, TO SEAL THIS DEMON AWAY!”

Thoth held aloft the spellbook above his head. A column of golden light shone forth, followed with ripples of force thudded themselves though him. Every ounce of his strength went to holding what remained of himself together. Vapzuhm had recovered his own strength and slid himself back upright, charred and smoking from the blowback. Golden light enveloped him, igniting the scales upon his back into silvery flames. All he could do was screech and cry with agony, for his form dissolved away into a web of purple gas, desperately banging away at the edges of the light in an attempt to escape.

A single flash ignited the fire-tinted desert night into blinding day over Menphis.

When darkness fell again, Thoth, his Was and the book where the only things in the sizable crater he now kneeled in. Cringing in pain he approached forward, ripping the sceptre out along the way to drag himself quicker towards the book. Had it worked? It was rumbling away, burning a bright mix of purple along the cover and gold from the pages. A light prod with the Was flipped it over, now emblazoned with the symbol of a golden eye in the heart of the cover and whispering away. Thoth could not do anything but give a small smile at the triumph. It was done.

The flames eventually dissipated and made it possible to take the tome into his hands once more, now imprisoning the demon-god Vapzuhm Incarnatum.

It would be a long walk back to the capitol, or what was left of it. With the sun rising behind as his trek began, Thoth realised something. “This is going to be a tale told for a millennium…”

[spoiler Prelude - Part 2]

6241 Years, 3 Months and 3 Days later, Just outside Domino City...

Laughter and waves of chatter could be heard some distance away from the World Kaiba Corp Resort. Thankfully Tomoya’s Staff Condominium at the Lake Pegasus Centre Park where soundproofed like all the others. The main door clanked when the key slid in, balancing several polyurethane shopping bags and a suit cover. Frowning from the strain, it slid open across the beige carpet, to quickly relieving the bags onto the nearby kitchen counter. Tomoya sighed and kicked the door behind him, hooking the suit cover with the hanger onto the nearby coat rack.

Unpacking the bags wouldn’t take long, withholding a back of salted tortilla chips for immediate consumption. With every few items put away he reached out and clenched forth a handful of the tortillas, shoving them into his mouth with no finesse. Packing finished, they were swiftly moved and deposited onto the computer desk besides the sliding doors. They led to a simple railing balcony that Tomoya unlocked for some fresh air, sliding it across.

The ambient sounds of the park flooded into his Condominium: Birds chirping, light chatter and the occasional PA announcement. The view from the balcony was impressive. A direct look at most of Lake Pegasus, which was encircled with various informative, culinary and merchandising attractions. At the very end of the lake stood a gated chateau, banners across the archway. It had would have been Pegasus’ newest residence, now a public museum to the causes that Industrial Illusions contribute to.

The fresh air filled his lungs. “So good to get a few days off once in a while.” Thinking to himself, lurching himself over to his desk and collapsing into the embrace of a large leather lounge chair which had been repurposed into a computer chair. Tapping the power button on the sleek tower computer ignited the monitors into life, ready to take in his long-winded password. The desktop that followed was of 3 aeroplanes, based off the Pokémon Kyogre, Latias and Latios, flying above fields of grass. Icons where messily layered atop the left-hand side. Tomoya clicked on the start bar and opened Firefox for Email access. Very few had arrived today: Mainly automated messages about his Paypal and Steam transactions the last few days.

A few more torteas left the packet and into his mouth, just before a Discord filled up the screen.

“Gekko Tenma Calling”

Oh not again. The man never missed a day where he wouldn’t call Tomoya out-of-hours. Slipping the headset over his draping brown hair, he tapped the Enter key to initiate the call.

“Gekko, I literally just got back from the market.”

“Perfect timing then.”

Tomoya took a second to take another chip from the bag and into his mouth, munching it down quickly.

“Uh, sure. Suit is back from the cleaners. You?” Only rumbling followed his words for a solid 10 seconds. What was going on?

“Mostly. I have the press office being hounded.” Gekko puffed away.

“Why? It’s just a small gala." Tomoya raised his left eyebrow.

“Have you not seen the news at all today?”

“Hold on, Hold on…"

Deafening the call, Tomoya reopened Firefox and created a new tab for BBC News, widening his eyes at the top headline: “KaibaCorp confirm Mokuba Kaiba as new CEO”. He was only 15; could he even become the CEO at his age? Tomoya thought he was a bit of a know-it-all, but even he wasn’t sure about that. Yet again, the Kaibas had so much money and influence, they could probably screw the rules and do about anything they wanted in Japan.

“Okay, I have several questions.” Then he remembered that Discord was still muted.

“Sorry about that. Now, I have several questions.” Repeating his words.

“Right. No statement for the press, so we are just repeating what we’re seeing on the news. The HQ have said that Mokuba is still coming tonight to do the speech.”

“Bloody hell.”

“Yes, that. I want you here on the double. I need all hands on deck ASAP.” Gekko chuckled.

“Alright, Alright. I’ll see you in one hour.”

“Good. Security will be--” Gekko’s voice at that point broke off. Only muttering in the background preceded the call abruptly ending. Clearly he had fallen deep into a massive pile of muck at the worst possible time.

“How rude.” He swirled around in his chair around to face the coat-rack. “Showtime I guess.”

They are now run by PaniK.

They continue to be wanted by police in connection of burglary, racketeering, grand theft auto and assault. Many of the Rare Hunters are very superstitious, adamant in the existence of magic from their involvement with Marik and the events of Battle City.

[spoiler=Key Items]Blank cards
Blank Cards of great power have been known to be scattered across Domino City. Almost all of them are just examples of misprinted cards and sold as collectables. A very few however are empty vessels and scattered across Domino, destined for those who are blessed with the willpower and strength to continue against overwhelming odds.

Millennium Items
Following the events of DSOD, the Key, Scales, Eye, Rod and Necklace where recovered from the Shrine of the Underworld and are arranged to be displayed at the gala. The Millennium Ring is also being displayed, sealed within solid resin and bullet resistant glass to prevent any more exposure to its dark energies.

Millennium Tome
Translated from hieroglyphics as the “Codex of Shadows”, it was given to humanity by Vapzuhm Incarnatum. This ancient spell book explains in great detail the art of Shadow Alchemy, including the ritual to create Millennium Items. Discovered in a hidden chamber in the Temple of the Underworld, it is to be displayed at the Gala tonight alongside the recovered Millennium Items.

[spoiler=Original Characters]Antagonists
Vapzuhm Incarnatum
Vapzuhm is a Demon God that was created by The Gentle Darkness before Zorc Necrophades. His purpose was to introduce dark magic to humanity, including Shadow Alchemy. When Vapzuhm presented it himself in human form to the First Pharaoh of Egypt they accepted the gift: The Codex of Shadows. Only too soon they regretted it when the kingdom began to fall into anarchy by its influence.

The demon would be defeated by the first magician Thoth, who used the demons own magic to seal him away in the Codex of Shadows.

Vapzuhm was partially exhumed when Ankandan started the ritual to create the Millennium Items, using the seven days to plan his revenge.  He first exacted his vendetta against his jailer, possessing a priest of Thoth and having him take him to his tomb in Luxor. Vapzuhm casted dark magic to bind Thoth’s spirit into the Codex of Shadows. Vapzuhm also makes contact with The Gentle Darkness to have it create Zorc Necrophades, believing the demon-god would destroy humanity. He was then resealed into the Codex as the ritual to create the Millennium Items was completed. Following this the Codex was renamed as the Millennium Tome.

Neutral
Tomoya Yagi
Tomoya Yagi is a 22-year old resident of Domino City, junior manager of the Lake Pegasus Centre and Maximillian Chateau.

Tomoya is the son of a British immigrant who came to Japan to marry his wife, who he had met when she studied abroad. Born and raised in an obscure diverse fishing town which had a large number of mixed-nationality couples, Tomoya had an average childhood until the age of thirteen.

A close friend of Tomoya at the time was a slightly older Italian-Japanese kid called Lorenzo. The pair had been rivals when playing Duel Monsters since it became a popular pastime. On their 13th birthdays they both received a Duel Disk and decided to test them out on one of the few open spaces in the town: an abandoned pleasure pier. Enthralled by the amazing holographic projections they indulged in their most fierce and competitive ever, oblivious to the encroaching bad weather. The pier had been dilapidated for some years after the arcade closed up, creaking as the wind and crashing waves struck. Lorenzo had been winning, but as the pier wobbled he wanted to stop.

Tomoya demanded otherwise, thinking he could turn it around after drawing Twin Colt Dragon.

Moments later a massive wave crashed alongside them, collapsing most of the floorboards below them. Instinct drove them to cling on to the edges, terrified for their lives. Tomoya had a stronger foothold and lugged himself to the stable edge, reaching out to Lorenzo with his hand. Tragically, Lorenzo couldn’t reach in time before the next wave struck, dragging him down into the water and forcing Tomoya to sprint away to safety as much more of the pier was swept away.

Lorenzo’s body was found by the coastguard two days later. Despite the coroner report ruling his death was accidental, Tomoya blamed himself for the tragedy.

The local community also believed so, forcing the family to relocate to Domino City and making a fresh start. After completing his secondary education, he went onto college and completed a degree in computer engineering. During this period he received periodic counselling for dealing with the emotional damage. These counselling sessions where the catalyst for Tomoya to meet Gekko Tenma, who was also receiving counselling to deal with the estranged relationship with his brother Yakko. Over time they became good friends, eventually leading Gekko to offer Tomoya the junior managerial position at the Lake Pegasus Centre. The job also came with a staff apartment within the park.

Tomoya uses a Gun Dragon deck, where machine-type monsters use effects that are determined by coin tosses. They are supported by some Union monsters, general & specialised support cards, and cards that manipulate the result of coin tosses in his favour.

Ever since the accident, Tomoya has not duelled for fun: Only when his job demanded it for demonstration purposes. However he does carry the Deck with him as a habit.

Duel Theme: Casual Duel

Protagonists
Thoth (Deceased)
Thoth was an Ancient Egyptian, close relative of the First Pharaoh and the world’s first Magician.  He lived approximately 1000 years before Atem’s rule.

Thoth was an advisor to the First Pharaoh and attended the court when Vapzhum presented humanity with Dark Magic. Despite protesting against the suspicious deal, was ignored. Following this, the First Pharaoh tasked him to use it against Vapzhum. Thoth became the first Magician using Vapzhum’s magic, turning it against him in a deadly battle. Vapzhum was tricked and sealed away during this battle into the Millennium Tome.

He mastered and taught his magic powers to his apprentices, who would begin the linage of Royal Magicians for the Egyptian Court. He died at Luxor from old age, where over hundreds of years became canonised as Thoth, God of Knowledge and Wisdom.

I would like to note my interest here. My full interest. But, I am warning you right now. I have not seen Dark Side of Dimensions, so I wouldn't know the events that happened in it. I have not seen many of the Yu-Gi-Oh films. I watch the anime more often.

Denied at this time. You haven’t fulfilled any of the main requirements in this application. Also with these limited details, I'd say she is rather edgy, vague and unoriginal.

Also, I’d not like to see Forbidden cards like El Shadoll Construct available from the start. If you do get accepted, you would not be able to use her unless I gave you a yet-unknown Key Item.

[spoiler=Yuuji Sakata]
Name: Yuuji Sakata
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Occupation: Student, (Semi) Professional Duelist, Parkour enthusiast

[spoiler=Appearance]PDx_Cld_D.png
Yuuji is tall, standing at 6 feet and one inch. Though he's built lean, he's in peak physical shape thanks to the large amounts of regular exercise he gets, and the extra muscle this affords him makes Yuuji look a bit bulkier than he otherwise would. In what has become an increasingly common occurrence in Domino's youth over the past few years, Yuuji was born with an odd, unnatural hair color. In his case: an odd shade of muted blue-green. Still, one can't deny that he wears it well, usually a bit messy and kind of long, and always with his favorite, button laden headband. His eyes are a lovely shade of bright blue.

When not in his Domino High uniform (which hasn't changed since the 1990's) Yuuji prefers to wear casual, baggy clothing that reflects his punk style. Usually, this means graphic tees (especially those from rock bands he likes), jeans, light jackets/button up shirts, and skate shoes, in addition to his headphones, skateboard, and button adorned messenger bag, in which he carries his duel disk and deck. In short, he dresses well, and between that and his looks, he's earned himself a few admirers, both in school, and more recently on the pro circuit. Yuuji looks very good in a tuxedo as well, though he's decidedly much less comfortable dressed up for the gala than he would be on the street.

[spoiler=Personality]Yuuji's something of a loner; much more comfortable out on the street skateboarding or running than he is in a social setting. Saying he's antisocial isn't quite accurate, but he definitely isn't a people person. He's quiet and a bit rough around the edges, and is frequently short and occasionally quite blunt when he talks to other people. This often gives the impression that Yuuji is aloof or judgemental. While to an extent both can be true, Yuuji is actually much more open minded than he appears to be. He's good at heart, and can, when he chooses to, be a very warm and kind young man. He's incredibly tolerant of others (so long as they aren't malicious or hostile), and when it comes to his family and friends, Yuuji is both loyal and devoted. All in all, Yuuji isn't a bad guy, he's just introverted and usually keeps his distance from other people.

Though he is an extremely poor student, Yuuji is in fact very intelligent. He's wise beyond his years, incredibly street smart, and has a knack for reading people. This extends to his dueling as well, where Yuuji is often able to accurately predict his opponent's strategies, make convincing bluffs, and generally outwit players who, more often than not, are using more powerful cards than his own.

Yuuji's not without his faults though. He is, in no uncertain terms, selfish. He sometimes skips school, despite his ailing mother and older brother's protestations, and can often be inconsiderate or ignorant of others' feelings (even though he usually means well). Yuuji is also a delinquent. He has numerous trespassing charges on his record (all of which result from his freerunning excursions), and has done a few stints in juvenile detention for these as well as fistfights involving some of Domino's street gangs.

When push comes to shove though, Yuuji can almost always be counted on to do the right thing, even if he'd much rather just be left to his own devices most of the time.

[spoiler=Biography]The youngest of two brothers, Yuuji comes from a poor family living in one of Domino city's seedier neighborhoods. His early childhood was fairly normal, and most people remember Yuuji as a quiet, sensitive child. When he was 12 though, Yuuji's father, a salesman, died in an auto accident. His mother, who's health had been failing ever since she miscarried the Sakatas' third child, was unable to work, and so in order to support the family, Yuuji's elder brother Kazuya dropped out of high school and found work as a chef.

Unsurprisingly, Yuuji took these events very hard, and consequently he became more withdrawn and combative as he entered puberty. It was around this time as well that Yuuji developed his interest in parkour and freerunning. Both the philosophy and the activity appealed to him, since it allowed him to take his mind off of his problems, and it gave him the opportunity to, for a short time at least, be free, and not beholden to anyone. Of course this was also the beginning of Yuuji's problems with authority, and as he got older he more and more routinely found himself in trouble, be it due to tresspassing or the occasional run-in with thugs on the street.

The summer after his sophmore year however, would prove to be something of a turning point in Yuuji's life. During a stint in juvenile detention (ironically for being caught trespassing on Kaibacorp property) Yuuji was introduced to Duel Monsters by his cellmate: an older boy named Ichiro Kurosawa. Yuuji picked the game up very quickly, and the two boys bonded over their games using Ichrio's smuggled-in decks. When Yuuji got out, he paid a visit to the Muto Game Store on Ichiro's recommendation.

As luck would have it, the owner, a kindly old man who introduced himself as Solomon, was an experienced Duel Monsters player himself. Business was slow that day, and so, after Yuuji mentioned Ichiro (who it turned out was not only a frequent customer, but also a regular winner of the store's weekly tournaments), Solomon challenged Yuuji to a duel. Yuuji, somewhat embarrassed, explained that he didn't have a deck, or indeed any cards of his own. This didn't dissuade Solomon though, who produced a pair of rental decks from behind the counter.

"One duel" quickly turned into a full-on match. As they played, Solomon explained the history of the game, its Egyptian origins, and the somewhat abridged story of how his grandson, Yugi, had once, and then twice, become the game's world champion. In return, Yuuji more formally introduced himself, and was uncharacteristically forthcoming, both about his criminal record and his passion for parkour. Much to his surprise, the old man was accepting of both, explaining that he empathized, as he himself was an adventurous, somewhat rebellious youth who had run into his own troubles with gambling. The two bonded some, and by the end of their match (which Yuuji narrowly lost), Yuuji was eager to formally enter the Duel Monsters community. Impressed, and as thanks for entertaining him, Solomon gave Yuuji a gift: Any single card he wanted, free of charge, from the Game Store's singles binders. The card Yuuji chose as his first was Odd-Eyes Dragon: a card that, according to the old man, fit him perfectly. He explained that there was a bit of lore behind dragons with "-Eyes" in their names; that each one brought out certain traits in the duelists that used them. Red-Eyes, the Black Dragon, brought out its master's hidden potential, Solomon's own Blue-Eyes, the white dragon, bestowed great power on its owner, and Odd-Eyes, the red dragon, gave its owner determination and a drive to succeed.

Whether Odd-Eyes actually had an effect on Yuuji, or he simply took the superstition to heart, he spent the next year pouring his efforts into his dueling. He built a deck around Odd-Eyes, saved up to buy a duel disk, and spent his free time attending duel monsters events, improving his skills, and playing in tournaments at the game store. The hard work eventually paid off, and Yuuji found himself scouted for events on the Duel Monsters pro circuit. In the three months or so since he's become a professional duelist, he's made something of a name for himself, using his freerunning skills to make a spectacle of his duels (dodging monster attacks, making moves from atop Odd-eyes dragon's hologram, etc), and pulling off several come-from-behind wins. Notably, Yuuji has made a point of using whatever income he gains from dueling to help with his family's expenses, having liquidated nearly every promotional card and prize money check he's earned thus far to help with his mother's medical bills. Most recently, he received an invitation to Kaibacorp's Archeological Gala. Yuuji was originally not going to attend, but his mother and brother convinced him to go, and helped him (begrudgingly) rent a tuxedo for the occasion.

[spoiler=Deck] Odd-Eyes Apex
Based around his ace monster, Yuuji's deck is a somewhat eclectic mix of generic, useful cards and unorthodox ones. On the surface, it resembles a chaos deck, containing many LIGHT and DARK monsters and making use of the graveyard and banishing to summon monsters and give the deck speed. Where it differs from these decks though is Yuuji's inclusion of several union monsters, specifically a small but powerful archetype of mid-level beasts and dinosaurs known as Apex Arsenal. As well, he's included some odd choices that represent his affinity for the darkly comic or the strange, such as Zombyra the Dark, Rainbow Kuriboh, and Mystic Tomato. Though all of the aforementioned cards seem to be (and often are) sub-par choices made due to Yuuji's low income, they work surprisingly well in his deck, and lend themselves to his deceptive playing style. The main attraction though, is Odd-Eyes dragon: Yuuji's favorite (and first) card. He summons it as often as possible, and many of his strategies revolve around powering it up to make the most use out of its burn damage effect.

[spoiler=Yuuji Sakamoto WIP]

Name: Yuuji Sakamoto

Gender: Male

Age: 17

Occupation: Student, (Semi) Professional Duelist, Parkour enthusiast

[spoiler=Appearance]PDx_Cld_D.png

[spoiler=Personality] A minimum of four (4) lines. What they're like and etc. If you know how to roleplay, you should know what a personality is.

[spoiler=Biography] Minimum of six (6) lines, summarising their past and how they led to the events of Codex of Shadows. This will be how your character is described in their database entry.

[spoiler=Deck] Oddball.

Something of a work in progress, Yuuji's deck is a rather eclectic mix of generic, powerful cards and unorthodox but useful ones. Thematically, his cards usually represent his love of freedom (both of expression and movement), and/or the darkly comic, with examples including Zombyra the Dark, Armageddon knight, and Rainbow Kuriboh. The only true constant, however, is support for his favorite (and ace) monster: Odd-Eyes Dragon.

Miscellaneous:

Toying with the idea of having Yuuji run the fang of critias, but i figured I'd run that by you first before i included it in the app.

Since we’re using the Manga timeline, the Waking the Dragons arc never happened (along with the terrible Grand Championship). So I’ll allow it, albeit cautiously.

I’m also fine with Odd-Eyes Dragon as it never existed in the ARC-V Manga.

He'll likely be making use of non-pendulum performapals and some chaos/dragon support as well

WIP

[spoiler=Rylan Chan]

Name: Rylan Chan

Gender: Male

Age: 22

Occupation: Social Media Influencer (@RylanChan)

Appearance: Rylan is a slender Japanese-American standing at 5’10” and 143lbs. He has black hair, though part of it has been dyed green. It is short by the neck and ears, but grows longer up top, with a side-swept fringe that reaches just below his right eye when it is not styled (which is rarely). His features are quite sharp, and distinct, with high cheekbones and a rounded chin. He is currently sporting a goatee which he has a habit of scratching and running his fingers through. His eyes are quite large and dark blue in colour, with short eyelashes.

On a day to day basis, Rylan dresses more for comfort than for fashion, and generally keeps things very casual. Zipped hoodies, t-shirts, and jeans are go to items for him, and he favours dark colours, sometimes with a splash of red, blue, or yellow. He never leaves home without his iPhone X, as his phone is essential to his line of work. He will generally carry a small GoPro camera for vlogging and a power pack or two as well, just to make sure he never runs out of juice.

For formal occasions his wealth tends to shine through a bit more, as he only wears tailored suits, often from expensive designer brands. As with his casual attire, he favours dark colours, and as such wears a charcoal suit, matched with a black tie, black shoes, and a white shirt. His cufflinks bear the YouTube logo.

Personality: [TBA]

Biography: Rylan was born in Japan but has spent the majority of his life in the US, as his family moved over to America when his mother secured a position within a high street law firm. He maintained some contact with Japanese culture through the occasional trips made to visit his grandparents, uncles and cousins. However, even though this maintained some connection to Japanese culture, Rylan felt more strongly connected to his American identity, as he had spent his formative years there.

In his teens, Rylan stumbled into a career as a Social Media Influencer, after he started to attract a considerable following on YouTube for his vlogs. While he was happy for it, as it opened up many opportunities for him, he also found that it made his life very difficult as well. School became a struggle, as he had peers that were fans of his content and made a habit of following him around. Focussing in class became increasingly difficult and after many failed attempts to work things out he dropped out so he could finish his schooling via private tutors instead.

After graduating, Rylan spent a few years travelling around and making videos as part of a brand deal he secured with Lonely Planet.

He has recently moved to Japan in hopes of reconnecting with his roots and get a better understanding for Japanese culture. Also, as his following is largely American, he found the move to provide him with a new sense of anonymity – which was a welcomed change to his life.

Deck: Rylan plays a Deck combining “Earthbound Immortals” with the “Guardians of Fantasia” archetype. His Deck focuses on flooding the field with the “Fantasia” Field Spell Cards, through the Deck’s main card’s (Kingdom of Fantasia) effect to turn Spell/Trap Zones into Field Spell Zones – powering up the otherwise weak “Fantasia” monsters and protecting the Earthbounds from destructions through their own effect.

I'll be making 2 characters, so for now this is WIP, but the first one will be -mostly- finished.

[spoiler=Chiyoko "Yoko" Amari]

Name: Chiyoko "Yoko" Amari
Gender: Female
Age: 19
Occupation: Pro Duelist

[spoiler=Appearance]
ppJ3nwl.jpg

Yoko is uncharacteristically tall for a japanese female, standing at a whopping six feet even and a slim, but tough build. Yoko's hair is bleached white and cut short, falling just down to her neck. Her average attire is almost entirely expensive and designer, and entirely in schemes of a bright colour paired with black; typically white with black. As far as appearances go, Yoko has an aesthetic for every-day life that is very consistent. In the duel arena, Yoko's attire becomes a lot busier filled with flashy accessories, including (but not limited to) a large pair of mirrored wrap-around sunglasses. While her natural eye-colour is dark, she is one known to put in colored contacts on the days she duels without her sunglasses on. Overall, in the duel arena, Yoko's attire is meant to intimidate and make her opponents uncomfortable. Of course, this only works very often with the new players.

[spoiler=Personality]
Yoko is, in most senses of the phrase, full of herself. In the arena and around others, it's difficult to find someone who's focus seems to be centered so much around their own person. With the people she likes, Yoko is kind, supportive, and generous with her wealth (to an extent). This, of course, is all within the context of Yoko's own superiority complex. With the people she doesn't like, Yoko is practically merciless; pulling no punches with her words or her actions. While there is some merit to Yoko's apparent image of herself, her intelligence and ability being very apparent, she often can sorely underestimate the people she doesn't like, and can sometimes not think things through well enough (often times because of this). In her everyday interactions, Yoko is extravagant and bombastic, always ready to make a scene whenever she so desires.

[spoiler=Biography]
Yoko is a person who has lived a mixed life. In her childhood, she lived with her wealthy parents, and while she was a child that got more attention from the maids and servants, it was not a life without its luxuries and benefits. However, such a life manifested in an ugly way into her early teens. Through middle-school and high-school, Yoko abused her status as the child of a rich family and the money that came with it, becoming a cruel and popular girl in her school seeking the attention that she never fully got as a child from her parents. Of course, halfway through her highschool years her parents decided to start paying attention, and from one poor incident after the next Yoko was disowned from the family and forced out into the streets. As a homeless teen in highschool, she was forced to couch-hop with whatever friends decided to remain with her.

Her only respite was dueling. Having played as a child, Yoko knew the basics, but hadn't played the game for some time since. At first she was bad, but it really wasn't long until she was good. Very good. Good enough to start making money, make a living doing what she did, and good enough to garner the attention of unsavory individuals. To get by in life and make her living, Yoko was forced to make deals with some bad people, in particular the Rare Hunters. While she herself never joined them, she often made deals selling rare cards that she won in ante duels. From these duels, she made enough to enter championship tournaments and made a big name for herself. While not the best, she earned a poor reputation as a "Rookie Hunter", often singling out new players in the pro circuit and tricking them out of their best cards in rigged duels. However, no rookie has ever had enough evidence to get her kicked out of the pro circuit, as she often worked hard to remain within the bounds of the rules by the way of technicalities, it was still enough to earn her a very polarized reputation. Many people are fans of her harsh and intimidating style, while those are the exact reasons many strongly dislike her.

But one way or another, Yoko is out to win.

[spoiler=Deck]
System Crash
Yoko plays a DARK machine deck focused on Tribute and Fusion Summoning. Yoko's strategies often revolve around singular, strong monsters to cement her position on the field, incorporating burn strategies to place high pressure on her opponents and prolonging duels as she sees fit. Includes cards like Jack Wyvern, Hack Worm, Bomb Spider, Dragonoid Generator, Overload Fusion, and Cracking Dragon.
Ace Monsters: Zero Day Dragon (custom), Cracking Dragon
[spoiler=Written Customs]
Binary Cracking Dragon
DARK - Level 10
Machine / Fusion / Effect
"Cracking Dragon" + "Cracking Dragon"
Must be Fusion Summoned. Cannot be destroyed by battle or by the effects of a monster with lower Level. If this card can make up to 2 attacks on monsters during the Battle Phase. Up to twice per turn: You can destroy 1 monster your opponent controls, and if you do, inflict damage to your opponent equal to its original ATK. This card cannot attack twice with its effect during the turn you use this effect once, and it cannot attack during the turn you use this effect twice.
ATK 3500 / DEF 0

Supreme Overload Dragon
DARK - Level 12
Machine / Fusion / Effect
"Cracking Dragon" + "Cracking Dragon" + "Cracking Dragon"
Must be Fusion Summoned. For this card's Fusion Summon, you can treat 1 "Binary Cracking Dragon" you control as 2 of this card's listed Fusion Material monsters. This card is unaffected by activated effects from any monster whose original Level is lower than 10. Once per turn (Quick Effect): You can target 1 monster your opponent controls; halve any battle damage your opponent takes for the rest of the turn and negate that target's effects, and if you do, make it lose 2000 ATK and DEF, then if its ATK or DEF has been reduced to 0 as a result, destroy it and inflict 1000 damage to your opponent.
ATK 4500 / DEF 0

Miscellaneous:
  • Yoko has an enormous sweet-tooth
  • Favorite music mostly comprised of Pop or hip-hop
  • Actually really enjoyed Biology class but faked hating it so as to not appear nerdy

[spoiler=Sachi]

Name: Sachi Soromiya

Gender: Female

Age: 16

Occupation: Student

Appearance: Standing at five feet and four inches, Sachi is a middling-sized girl with brown hair and green eyes. Her skin is very pale, and tends to sunburn very easily. She wears a pair of mismatched earrings, one blue and one red, and located in different places on her ears. She has a curvy figure, and she almost always has an air of dishevelment about her. Her hair is often only barely brushed, and her clothes are often in a state of disrepair, not because she can't afford nicer ones, but because she simply prefers her more comfortable, older ones. She most often can be seen wearing a thick blue jacket-hoodie, which is so large on her that it falls off her shoulders constantly. Beyond that she wears pleated skirts, often in darker colors, with lighter-colored casual shirts up above. She also has a Duel Disk that is Kaibacorp's latest model, using the neural link to produce Solid Vision holograms, though hers does not enable virtual cards or have the virtual blade. It is in black and purple as opposed to black and blue.

For the purposes of the gala, Sachi has procured a very simple dark purple dress that exposes her shoulders, but is otherwise very modest.

[spoiler=Duel Disk]

Kaiba%27s_New_Duel_Disk.png

Note: Unlike Kaiba's model, Sachi's does not contain the virtual blade, and uses physical cards. The glow is also purple instead of blue.

Personality: Brilliant but lazy, Sachi is a very scatterbrained sort of person. Often full of energy and not fully processing the world around her, Sachi is usually a bit of a handful. Quick to act without really giving it any thought, she often makes poor decisions that become very evident very quickly. This is also paired with a certain naivete that makes her fairly gullible and prone to believing lies. Despite her terrible judgement, Sachi is very intelligent, having top grades in Math and History at her school, though Science gives her a headache, and she's bad with technology in general, constantly having issues interpreting her Duel Disk's readouts that are displayed over her eye. She also is incredibly knowledgeable about ancient Sumerian culture and can mentally do complex math very quickly. She is incredibly smart and forward-thinking when she actually takes time to think things through, as little as that occurs. This makes her a very good duelist, as her deck works best when planning several steps ahead.

Very kind and humble, Sachi always tries to do her best for the people she cares about. She has a determined go-getter attitude, always trying to stay optimistic. She is very accepting of other people, and comforting a person in need is one of the few times where her brain will actually slow down and adjust to the gravity of the situation around her naturally. Sachi takes great pride in being helpful, and wants to be as helpful to as many people as she can, especially her sick father. However she very quickly can buckle under pressure when she doesn't have help on important tasks, and is in general easy to overwhelm.

Biography: Sachi is an only child living with a single father, Soichiro Soromiya. Her mother died in hospital after giving birth to Sachi. Her father has nonetheless never let this affect how he sees Sachi, and has always raised her with loving care. Sachi grew up always having a large exposure to ancient history, her father being an anthropologist. He especially well-learned in the cultures of Ancient Egypt and Sumeria, though Sachi always gravitated towards the Sumerians. Sachi has always had good grades in school for the most part, and has stayed out of trouble as well, though she certainly has gained a reputation of being scatter-brained. She has also gained a reputation among her classmates as a good duelist, taking naturally to the game, her skills in math being a key factor. Sachi hasn't participated in any tournaments or anything similar, though it is a very enthusiastically-pursued hobby of hers.

Sachi lived a relatively normal life for a girl without a mother, though she always wishes she could have met her. She and her father have always gotten along swimmingly, but that changed when he was employed by Kaibacorp's histories division when Sachi was fourteen. He worked longer hours, was away from home constantly, and always seemed to be in a bad mood that came from working under an impatient Seto Kaiba. He would sometimes snap a bit and yell at her, though he was always quick to apologize when he calmed down. Nevertheless, Sachi's relationship with her father was changed from that point on, not as relaxed, not as happy, and she couldn't help feeling like Kaibacorp was to blame.

The real trouble began when her father went away to Egypt for work for several months and came back a changed man. Sachi's father had been the one tasked with examining the Millennium Tome when it was excavated, and it did something to his mind. He's been distant and completely not himself, almost as if his soul had been sucked out of his body, unable to even properly take care of himself. In the months since the Tome has been excavated, Sachi has been taking care of her father, desperately trying to figure out what was wrong with him. She has discerened from his disjointed ramblings that it has something to do with a book, and when she received the invitation to the Gala (her father also receiving one but being in no fit state to attend), she realized it had to be the Millennium Tome. She is determined to speak with the highest-ranking person there, Seto himself if she has to, to try and figure out what is wrong with her father.

Deck: Sachi uses a Fortune Lady deck, containing monsters that have their attacking capabilities based off of their Levels, which increase each turn. Sachi is perfectly suited to play this deck over many other skilled duelists, purely because of all the mental math playing it requires. Sachi has gained victories purely because of her opponents failing to calculate enough steps ahead and being overwhelmed by sheer attack power. Her strategy is also supplemented by various other Spellcaster monsters, helmed by the most powerful cards she owns, the Sorcerer of Dark Magic.
