EXFO-JP007 シェルヴァレット・ドラゴン (OCG: Shellvarrett Dragon/TCG: Shellrokket Dragon)
Level 2 DARK Dragon Effect Monster
ATK 1100
DEF 2000
You can only use each effect of this card’s name once per turn.
(1) When a Link Monster’s effect is activated that targets this card (Quick Effect): You can destroy this card, then destroy 1 monster in the same column as the Zone this card occupied, then if there’s a monster(s?) in an adjacent Zone to that monster, you can destroy that as well.
(2) During the End Phase, if this card is in the GY because it was destroyed by battle or card effect and sent there from the field this turn: You can Special Summon 1 “rokket” monster from your Deck, except “Shellrokket Dragon”.

Warning: The first effect contains an extremely new / different use of text that doesn’t appear to have been used elsewhere. Full understanding of it is almost certainly going to require Ruling clarifications as a result. (Specifically clarification if it lets you destroy more than one monster alongside the first, and if diagonal zones count as ‘adjacent’)

Rokkets are still lackluster, but more members is better. This guy is an artillery shell, and as such, he deals some splash damage when he fires off, which is pretty cool.

Wish they had more ways of triggering their effects and getting out onto the field, but Shellvullet is starting to be a step towards making them actually good.

Okay, so it's rokket then in the TCG? I thought it was varret at first, then vullet, then I don't even know what. Anyway, haven't tried these out yet, as they are kind of lackluster, they seem to want to have support from other DARK Dragon support, which is nice I suppose to expand what they can do, though right now those cards are pretty limited too, more members in their own Archetype is definitely needed.

Indeed. I'd expected an effect like this to come from buckshot or something, but this works too.

Now I wanna see a Level 5 rokket to work with Twin Triangle.

It just occurred to me that Underclock Taker can trigger rokkets. I mentioned months ago that the big issue with them was being unable to be triggered by a generic link 2, but now they can be.

They still have a decent power disparity when you compare them to other link decks, but hey, at least they don't need to go link 3 to play their game.

As for this card itself, it is an absolute mess. If the effect ever funking works, it's gonna be awesome, but the setup required feels like a bit of a perfect storm scenario.

Depends on how it gets ruled, it might be ridiculous or it might be mediocre based on that.

to be fair, with links, there's now more chances than a snowball in hell or your opponent aligning cards, and all you need to do is have a link monster that's capable of targeting him, or throw him in the way of a link monster your opponent has that targets (like a firewall dragon) as a deterrent. so you can at least have a 1-for-1 pop. and unless i understand columns incorrectly, his effect doesn't actually target, so it has that going for it as well.

This just... isn't what we need.

Nevermind that the removal effect is already made obsolete by Magnarokket; it doesn't add anything and Magna is also non-destruction on top of non-targeting and doesn't need to be in the same column and that you're going to be lucky if your opponent is dumb enough to keep their monsters grouped together while you have this face-up and out on the field. The problem here is that the deck doesn't need another copy of the other 3 it already has.

Rokket's biggest problem is that the deck is not a Link engine deck as it is. They have some excellent S/T support, and their boss isn't too shabby, but the monsters they have aren't monsters you want to use for a Link Summon. They don't contribute to swarming very well, and the way their floats work make using them as Link materials actually worse for value. The way these monsters work is that they're really more just utility monsters; pieces you leave on the field to be used with Link monsters with quick-play target effects for disruption and removal on your opponent's turn at no loss of advantage. For that, they're good. But to get to that stage, you need to get the Link monsters out, and for that you need an actual engine.

This isn't an engine card; this is another utility card in a deck that has a very hard time getting its Link Monsters out on the field without dramatically hurting their card advantage. Not only is the job that this card tries to do done poorly, it's just not at all what the deck wants.

Can't even properly meme it with Transmodify or Downbeat; their floats don't work off of tributing.
