TCG Banlist September 2017

More thoughts:

I'm very happy Denglong was hit, card is busted and should never have been generic. Even if Dinosaurs massacred a la OCG, I'd expect it to be a recurring problem in various decks down the line. This list does leave Dinosaurs surprisingly strong with 3 Diagram, 3 Oviraptor, 3 Baby, 3 Fossil Dig so it should still be a strong deck in the TCG, but Denglong's what made the deck unreasonable. Lithosagym was an interesting hit, it'll be nice not having to double up on necessary ED monsters. I do think Oviraptor should be Limited but at least it can't become a TRUE KING OF ALL CALAMITIES now (funk that card, funk it).

Also happy about Dinomight being hit, it is a bigger problem than Master Peace (though Master Peace and Diagram both at 3 is pretty shocking). Like Dinos, True Dracos weren't murdered but can still do damage, and they still have full access to the Spellbook engine, triple Diagram and Card of Demise. Ignis Heat is a little mystifying, it's not a particularly high-up card on True Dracos' depth chart and certainly doesn't do more for them than say, Heritage which would've been a more appropriate hit, but with 3 Diagram either can be searched anyway.

Barrage still being at 3 is interesting and keeps the engine going what with Chakanine, Hammerkong, Missus Radiant, Ratpier/Thoroughblade/Whiptail all being things, but Broadbull and Drident got hit and that's what needed to happen and what matters. I'm not sure how to feel about Daigusto Emeral getting hit, it feels like a bit of a guilt-by-association move that didn't need to happen, it's just a good generic R4NK that's particularly good in vanilla-heavy decks like World Chalice, vanilla Pendulums and stuff that uses Gem-Knight Garnet for Brilliant Fusion, most of which aren't really an issue.

Dark Hole and Slumber being hit is not great news, we'll need our board wipes for SPYRALs. At least we'll have Struggling Battle by then.

Seeing T.G. Hyper Librarian back is somewhat concerning. With Level Eater and Gofu still somehow untouched, Quasar boards will be something to watch out for.

Putting Rabbit at 3 and Gateway to 1 to hype their respective archetypes seems somewhat irresponsible but time will tell.

Amazoness Archer and [Toon]/Cannon Soldier should be banned because they're basically Mass Driver now in the Decks that can tutor them out and abuse them for FTK's. Infernities, SPYRALs, Six Sams can all either do this now or in the near future. Speaking of which, Trickstars were notably not hit here despite Reincarnation being Limited in the OCG. A bit disappointed because Trickstar degeneracy isn't fun to have to worry about. The hit on Grandsoil seems to indicate that there's still a general anti-FTK mentality which I totally am down with because players shouldn't have to prevent them with handtraps before getting a turn tbh.

Summoner Monk is a card I run 2-of IRL, had to side it out every other match because of Drident but now that isn't an issue. Can still be Ash'd and Sleeper'd but that's fine and we'll cross that bridge. Kinda funny seeing Monk and Cat at 3 again but with Cat and DSF now errata'd it shouldn't be too much of an issue. It's a nice card and an Allure/Knowledge target. HEROes will also appreciate more Monk for their Shadow Mists and such.

Pretty happy with the list overall and unlike the OCG it didn't kill completely decks off that didn't need to be killed, True Dracos and Dinos will not be as strong as SPYRALs but just might be able to compete with them whereas in the OCG they clearly can't. It's not often the TCG has a better list than the OCG but now might be one of those times.

On the topic of FTKs, the Emeral hit is a big hit to Infernity as they can't use it to revive Gaiasaber for a 2 card Firewall which was a big part of the FTK. They can still do double/triple Firewall shenanigans other ways it's just way harder and much less consistent now.

This is definitely gonna be a fun month until Double Helix arrives.

Prep's at 2 just in time for Relinquished Support.

BLS at 2 sounds scary but probably isn't.

Good riddance Zoodiac. Little sad for True Kings to be gone but they were a powerful force, if reasonably fair.

...no?

TK was no more fair than Zoo, just less widespread due to not being generic. Same for True Draco.

God damn this is my favourite list in a long time. Playing against True Draco and I basically have to give up on trying to reduce their card advantage, it's funking awful. Now I still have to struggle to kill Masterpeace, but whatever.

Loads of people in my circle told me that Terraforming was gonna get hit next list and I told them no. I was also calling for Denglong to get banned, and it did.

I know it's not good, but I'm kinda hype about BLS.

When I first saw Hyper Librarian semi'd I genuinely screamed in terror, but then I remembered Master Rule 4 and calmed down a bit.

Rescue Cat at 3 seems really rather good, I just have to look through my DataBase to find which <Level 4 Beasts float when used as Link Material. If there isn't one, I'm really rather disappointed in the Beast Type.

And I'm so glad that they didn't hit Barrage. Doesn't need it w/o Drident or Bull, and I pulled 2 from my mega tin :) Time to play casual Zoo :)

Well, unlike OCG, they didn't drop any hit on Zoodiac Barrage so at least they can still be played as an engine of some sort xD

Also AFAIK, Paleozoics, and Infernoids for that matter, stopped being a tier 1 threat once Lawnmowing/Greener Grass was Limited in TCG. IDK if they will make a comeback after this banlist, though.

While Grass was integral to Infernoids, Paleozoics could take it or leave it and had YCS-winning builds both with and without it before Grass was hit.

It was mainly the advent of Master Peace that killed Paleozoics as they have very little to out a Trap-immune Master Peace, and it's still at 3 with Diagram at 3 to search it and Terraforming at 3 to search that. The Link mechanic didn't help either as they tended to depend on multiple Xyz monsters.

They should be better now with other decks hit and Mistar Boy coming soon, but they'll still have Master Peace to contend with as well as more anti-target hate in Decode Talker and the re-emergence of SPYRAL Resort and Last Resort, which screw with Canadia, Dinomischus and Olenoides.

It seems like wanted to do a complete reset just like they did in the OCG. They hit all the most recent tier 1 decks and killed off the splashable Zoo engine, but they somehow completely missed Toadally Awsome or the Paleozoic deck in general while also limiting the only easy outs to it.

This list is still garbage.

Get your Twin Twisters and Heavy Dust Tornados ready and pray to god you actually draw them before they drop their frog.

If they're giving you grief Denko Sekka is particularly good against them if you can pick some up. Or you could run them yourself, the Paleozoic skeleton is about the cost of a Structure Deck at this point, all Paleozoic cards are going for a quarter (besides possibly Opabinia and Anomalocaris depending on where you get them and those shouldn't be more than $1-2) and reprinted Toads are about $3-5.

I'm still kind of out of the game, but...

Between ravine to 3, bls at 2, and borreload (or whatever its name is, that dark dragon 3k link), i feel like there has to be some ridiculously dirty chaos/dragon build out there now. Might see what I can slap together.

Could be worth a shot. You've also got Charge of the Light Brigade bumped to 3, errata'd Future Fusion which has already seen competitive play in winning Infernoid builds, and the new Twilightsworn stuff including Punishment Dragon to work with. Good luck!

Don't forget there is also 3 Honest to go with the double BLS:EotB!!! fun
