Neo Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon

Recommended Posts

So I'm posting here in Casual Card Design because I haven't played YGO competitively since the Zexal era... so my knowledge of the meta and my idea of card balance is pretty much nonexistent right now. Anyways, as if Blue-Eyes didn't get enough support recently, I thought I would try my hand at an upgraded Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon to go along with all the other new Blue-Eyes additions. I tried to include all the aspects that the old Shining Dragon had but with buffs that would make it relevant to the current Blue-Eyes deck. With that said, I honestly have little idea of how much would make it worth playing, and in turn, how much is too much, so I would appreciate any suggestions and constructive criticism. Thanks~

Neo Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon

[Dragon/Effect]

Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned by Tributing 1 “Blue-Eyes” Fusion monster, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. This card’s Special Summon cannot be negated. This card gains 500 ATK for each Dragon-Type monster in your GY. Dragon-Type monsters you control cannot be targeted, or destroyed by, your opponent’s card effects. This card can make a second attack each Battle Phase. When this card is removed from the field by a card your opponent controls: Banish all cards on the field, then you can target 1 “Blue-Eyes White Dragon” in your GY; Special Summon it.

Additionally, you have not given a proper review under the Advanced Clause. Read that before you post in this section again; thanks.

This looks really good: IDK it it would become a go-to card to run in Blue-Eyes, but it still should be a solid option, in a similar way to Blue-Eyes run MAX Dragon. I mean, the summoning condition is flexible enough, mostly because 2-headed BEWD is a thing, it is compatible with the cards that Blue-Eyes already run, namely Trade-In, Awakening, and of course "Blue-Eyes" support, and with those effects it pays off the investments you make on playing this card, without pushing it too far into the unfair side, IMO.

Thanks for the comment and review. It was definitely difficult to come up with an effect that is worth using and worth the cost yet not gamebreaking. Despite being out of the game for a while, I honestly do think it's a bit too powerful, since it has the potential to be an OTK'er, but on the other hand, I play Blue-Eyes as my main IRL deck and I just don't find enough opportunities or reasons to go into Twin Burst currently. When I do have 2 Blue-Eyes on the field (usually a BEWD and an Alternative), I almost always find myself either attacking with the two individually, or going into an Xyz play after popping with Alternative rather than fusing for Twin Burst, so I think this card would at least provide more of a reason to use Twin Burst. Also, I think that this requires a fair amount of setup, and it can be dead at times (especially since it's not a Trade-In target, as it's Level 10), which hopefully helps at least a bit with balance, but it is a headache when it hits the field, and can potentially turn a game around single-handedly, which I'm not sure I like.

If I were to nerf it, I'd consider dropping its ATK boost to 300 to match the original Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon's effect, as well as either ditching the double-attack effect or having its card effect immunity be limited to itself as opposed to all Dragons.
