Cybele, the Earth's Sentinel

EARTH - 6 Stars

Fairy/Ritual/Effect

This card can only be Ritual Summoned with the Ritual Spell Card, "Earth Chant".

The Attributes of the monsters used for the Ritual Summon of this card must be EARTH.

When this card is Ritual Summoned, place it face-up in your Spell & Trap Card Zone

as a Continuous Spell Card. All EARTH monsters gain 500 ATK and DEF, and their

effects cannot be negated. Once per turn, during either player's turn: If a face-up

EARTH monster you control would be destroyed, it is not destroyed. When this card

is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: Special Summon the monsters used to

Ritual Summon this card from your Graveyard.

Hey, it's me again with another random custom card creation! Today's invention is Cybele, the

Earth's Sentinel, a Ritual monster that is meant to serve as an extremely useful protective device for

all those EARTH based archetypes and decks out there! Requiring (the hardly used) Earth Chant as her

Ritual Spell card, she is essentially a buffed up Gaia Power, changing the DEF nerf into a buff, alongside

granting additional destruction protection to prolong the life of your EARTH monsters. The concept of the

card was built entirely around an image I randomly found. All criticism is welcomed. Thanks!

2017.10.09 - Effect updated! Changed Cybele to become a Continuous Spell Card

instead of a Field Spell Card. Added EARTH monsters effects cannot be negated,

and added Cybele reviving it's Ritual tributes upon it's own destruction!

I like the idea, but it simply is not worth it. As a generic Field Spell Card, it would be a decent card, though still one I think most players would skip. You are putting a lot of effort and resources into something that does quite little. Building a Deck around this wouldn't be useful, I guess an EARTH Ritual Deck could use it, though what are those if we are being honest? It would be interesting if you boosted this card's ATK/DEF and let it Special Summon itself as a Quick Effect, or make the effect it gains as Field Spell more powerful. So I give it a 5/10, because the idea is good, but the execution is flawed.

Thanks for the input, Zaziuma! I thought about it and realized I agree; I'm not too current on the newest cards and the meta but even from when I used to play, this card would definitely be quite lackluster. I decided to give Cybele some more spunk; she now prevents EARTH monster effects from being negated and can revive her ritual tributes upon her destruction. I also changed her to being a Continuous Spell Card just so she can blend into EARTH archetype decks that typically run their own Field Spell Card. I understand how it'd be helpful if she could become a monster again but I put her ATK/DEF at 0/0 for a reason: I wanted her to remain a passive, support character through and through! Either way, hopefully she is up to par now!

(Sorry I'm a little late to the party.)

The concept is very cool; the flavor of it becoming a field (or in this case, a continuous spell) is very... earth-like. Good touch.

500 ATK&DEF boost is pretty good.

Effect negation immunity's not bad, especially with Solemn Strike running about.

Destruction immunity isn't bad either--except (and this is a nitpick) I would change it to: Once per turn, during either player's turn, if a face-up

EARTH monster(s) you control would be destroyed, it is not destroyed.

so it protects multiple monsters instead of just one, in the event of Raigeki/Dark Hole/Torrential Tribute and such.

The Special Summon effect when it's destroyed is the best part, imo, because it gives back what you gave it, so you don't lose too much advantage. And monsters who          have SS effects would benefit from being summoned this way too.

Have you ever thought about lowering its level for an easier summon, leading to more consistent plays? Maybe to 3 or 4? That way, you'd be able to summon it with just one monster as a cost instead of two if you ever needed. But I guess the current level makes sense for its Special Summon effect, though, so I guess it's not that big of a deal.

Also, I love the art. Like, woah. It matches the glow and the horns resemble the crest on Earth Chant too-

What do you mean? The ATK/DEF doesn't really matter since she instantly becomes a Continuous Spell and her revival effect targets the monsters that were used for her Ritual Summon, not herself.

Oh sorry, I just skimmed the effect, thought it was itself, not the monsters you used. In that case, it's fine.

Thank you for the kind words! Also, nice catch on the destruction effect! I'm fairly certain she's pretty strong right now as is so I'm hesitant to make her any more powerful, but that is a slight change that I think should certainly be added. I'm glad you got the gist of her flavor, she's supposed to be a representation of Gaia/Mother Nature, hence her name Cybele, another mythological character who shares very similar attributes.

For the concern on her level, I understand how it'd make her play much more consistent but at the same time she's supposed to represent a powerful spirit... I feel like putting her below the five-star threshold would be hard to believe considering her lore and presence on the battlefield. So I'd rather keep her at her current level as a personal preference.

And yeah, I actually didn't realize just how similar the Earth Chant artwork was to Cybele's until much later! Definitely makes me feel like incorporating Earth Chant as her go-to was the right choice!

Oh sorry, I just skimmed the effect, thought it was itself, not the monsters you used. In that case, it's fine.

No worries! Thanks for the feedback!
