Hougyoku no Kizuna / Crystal Bonds
Spell Normal

You can only activate 1 card with this card’s name per turn.
(1) Add 1 “Crystal Beast” monster from your Deck to your hand, and take 1 “Crystal Beast” monster with a different name from your Deck and place it face-up in your Spell & Trap Zone as a Continuous Spell.

Adding Pegasus to the hand with this and putting a Carbuncle in the S/T zone's pretty good. Then you can summon Pegasus and get another CB.

Gives you potentially 3 CB in the S/T zone, including Carbuncle, to summon them at some point; all with one card.

So good. Only if their monster pool was better. And that artwork is adorable.

This is stupidly good. Crystal Tree becomes a lot more powerful with this (which means Crystal Abundance and Rainbow Ruins do as well), as do Crystal Beacon and even Rare Value (still wouldn't bother with it though outside of some kind of maybe certain hybrid builds). Honestly, even previous gimmicks like Hamon might be worth taking a second look at.

It's a real shame that every CB outside of Carbuncle and Pegasus are so utterly useless as monsters. Konami really needs to find some way to retrain these monsters without breaking their lore.

As if that ever stopped them before.

You know they could just make Advanced Crystal Beasts already, but with more powerful versions than in anime.

  • Ruby Carbuncle - Special Summons from the hand and/or S/T (or maybe GY) instead of just S/T.
  • Amber Mammoth - Must be targeted with attacks and card effects instead of just attacks (and/or other Crystal Beasts cannot be destroyed by your opponent while this is on the field).
  • Topaz Tiger - All Crystal Beasts gain ATK instead of itself (or just Tiger gains more ATK).
  • Emerald Tortoise - Change all Crystals Beasts to DEF.
  • Cobalt Eagle - Shuffles Crystal Beasts into the Deck (or give it Kirin effect).
  • Sapphire Pegasus - Perhaps place 2 Crystal Beasts instead of 1.
  • Amethyst Cat - When attacked directly, mill Crystal Beast (or search stuff).

All of them would have a name condition (just like in the anime), so they would be treated the same as the originals.

im genuinely curious about comparing this with Tenki?

a super ROTA also not good for you because?

This card is not a SUPER ROTA. It'a a slow card that does not help in improving the speed of the deck when it comes to it's ultimate goal of getting rainbow dragon out or it's fusion in time.

Oh sweetie, you're too precious; never lose your innocence, please.

On the card, art is cute and effect is solid. Grab Ruby, play Pegasus to the field. Get yourself a Link-2 from NSing Ruby, and get yourself another CB into the S/T zone for your efforts. Very solid card.

Diamond and Onyx are still available

CB - Onyx Serpent actually sounds quite nice

they're not a part of the rainbow.

honestly the main issue here is how Konami seemingly goes out of their way to make CB focus on these 7 for more than a decade rather than breaking lore a bit and add more monsters.

like god, can't we get a monster that we actually might want to draw for once? Right now the entire deck literally revolves around using and reusing Sapphire even more than ever (running 12 sapphire pegasus lol), and Carbuncle and any CB filler you might want to bring are more or less glorified spells/loldeaddraw if you somehow drew them, and the pends are pretty much just extra spells too anyway.

the deck is even more obsessed with ponies than a rabid MLP fan who has Twilight as his waifu or whatever the name is.

The best Crystal Beast builds don't run Rainbow Dragon as it's too much of a hassle to get out. Their win condition is generally either swarming with Ruby Carbuncle/Crystal Abundance. Cards like Cobalt Eagle, Amethyst Cat, and Rainbow Dragon itself just aren't worth running (though even if Rainbow Dragon were the win condition this card would certainly help).

Unfortunately, the deck hasn't been able to compete at high levels regardless of build, the best I've seen them do is top a relatively large and competitive local:

This 2015 build focused on spamming Sapphire Pegasus (the deck's Stratos essentially) and the rank 4 engine, also teching the Fire/Ice hands which were much more relevant back then. The Ayers Rock Sunrise + Ragnazero combo is also pretty cool.

Rainbow Bridge and this in any competitive archetype would be game-changers.

This card is a straight up +1 search from the deck. When you dig through the ranks, this isn't actually that rare because of the amount of Continous/Field Spell cards that can search on activation, including Dark Contract with the Gate, Dinomist Charge, Fire Formation - Tenki, Gateway to Chaos, Hysteric Sign, Magical Meltdown, Raidraptor Nest, SPYRAL Resort, Oracle of Zefra, The Hidden City, Trickstar Lightstage, and Union Hangar but they mostly +1 because they remain on the field. Some, including Black Whirlwind, Gateway of the Six, Ghostrick Parade, Graydle Impact, Kyoutou Waterfront, Madolche Ticket, Naturia Forest, Pacifis, the Phantasm City, Shinobird Power Spot, Star Pendulumgraph, U.A. Stadium, Union Hangar*, Wind-Up Factory and Yosen Training Ground don't plus immediately and require something else to happen, though those can notably plus more than once and most are incredible cards for their respective archetypes (I didn't include cards that require you to lose a card, but those can be very good too including Dragon's Ravine and Dragonic Diagram).

*Union Hangar fits in both categories and is a +2 on its own because it's ridiculous like that.

It's notable that Continuous/Field Spell/Traps can have their search prevented by quick removal (including Ghost Ogre in the case of those that don't plus on activation) where Normal Spell Cards can't. When you get to Normal Spell Cards that +1 by searching from the deck upon activation this is in truly rarified air. The only other cards that can do that are Frightfur Patchwork and Pre-Preparation of Rites. Charge of the Light Brigade is up there too, as it can often be a +1 or higher in the decks that use it depending on your mills. None of those are searchable though, and this is. If this card with Rainbow Bridge to search both it and Crystal Abundance can't make Crystal Beasts work on some competitive level at some point in the future, nothing will. I hope to see a weird Crystal Beast regional top sooner than later, get to work all you geological beastmasters!

This card gives the deck a plethora of 2-card combos to output good advantage and maintain beasts in the DT...

But it’s still a deck that otherwise doesn’t do much of anything. At least the Ojameme (always counted as an ojama meme) gives you power boards. This gives you3-4 bodies on the board and/or a couple draws. For a 2-card combo involving 2 spells, albeit searchable ones bar rare value, and a normal summon.
