Cow's Monster Review 2017

Recommended Posts

Since the unmasking has been done...

Alright so as the man behind the Mauvache I have been gifted with a bit more insight than most. For the record Mauvache only offered to take guesses because I had already found them all, so I knew who were who.
Anyway. The word of the event is disappointed. The event as a whole was lackluster and, honestly, most of the Monsters disappointed me in some way.
Remember this is just my opinion, you decide how much you care to listen to it. But please don’t get upset. This doesn't say much about you as a person and I am admittedly a harsh judge at times. I will rate, out of 10, how well I think you did and how easy it was for me to guess you. (10 being did amazing for the first and 10 being extremely difficult to uncover for the second). A score of 7 is something to take pride in, in this scoring system, so keep that in mind.

The Mayor: Well this is an obvious. He made the event, and came up with ideas, he did a good job getting it started but then didn’t do anything. Not much to say here. Just glad he played along with Mauvache doing things.
Score: 2/10
Difficulty: 0/10

Oogie: Non-existent and honestly no idea why. They had a fun very few posts but they just dropped the ball entirely. Shame.
Score: 2/10
Difficulty: 1/10

Rick: Several good posts. Then nothing. Nothing at all. Sadly could have been great but...
Score: 2/10
Difficulty: 2/10

Heavy: One I was NOT disappointed in. While not the most interesting Monster personally speaking because of not playing the game he stayed in character, was active, had a fun game, and just in general played his part really well. Honestly wasn’t hard to guess though, one of my first, due to a few factors. One being it felt like a character he’d use. The other being the image and video choice felt like him
Score: 9/10
Difficulty: 1/10

Danganronpa: funk spelling this name. >.> Anyway, overall did the best. Was iffy at first but they managed to do the multi-characters well. Giving time for them to do fun things and being in general interesting. The main issues for them were not branching out enough and being unable to make the reveal hit hard enough. Though the latter wasn’t their fault. Honestly once I thought about it the person behind this was obvious. The image posts and the fact that someone actually took the effort to do this could only be a very few number.
Score: 9/10
Difficulty: 3/10

Shymalan: Also funk this spelling. Anyway this was my favorite Monster at the start. Fun, had a fitting gimmick, and seemed to be generally active and interesting. And then...the “death”. I was a bit iffy on that especially as it made the game thing...broken? I guess, I don’t even know. But then the complete 180 and the absolute sheet that was the come back. Which was poorly executed and honestly was just...the person behind the mask’s regular posts with a bit more intensity. It was boring and it feels like they gave up. A shame tbh.
Score: 5/10
Difficulty: 1/10

Bowser: This one’s tricky. While they were here they did the role really, really, really well. And the wrestling match and thing with Splendor was quite fun. But they bailed on their game and they vanished. NOW the issue is I know who is behind it and I know WHY it happened. I know they would have been great had the stuck to it but I have to grade on overall. Also they were a bit tricky at first due to multiple possibilities but in the end it became clear, especially due to those Misc threads where they posted images.
Score: 6/10
Difficulty: 4/10

Leonard Church: Boring...sorry. But they didn’t do much, even when they had a thing going they didn’t really keep it up or advertise it well. They just sort of were there...at least they WERE there.
It was pretty easy to guess, based on tone and franchise, to be honest.
Score: 5/10
Difficulty: 4/10

Ivan: Yay! Finally someone who did things, and not just in their own corner, and was in character and active the entire time! Very well done. Only issue was there were slip ups of personal feelings in it and could have been a biiit more showy. But very good job. And quite obvious due to posting habits, and the character choice itself. Main thing gave it away was knowing so much about the more obscure things.
Score: 9/10
Difficulty: 2/10

Erma: *shrugs* Hard to judge. Kept to the character, cute and fun gimmick, but...didn’t do much of anything. I feel they could have done so much more but they just...didn’t. They also were inactive at random times it felt. And they had no game either. I liked them but they just...didn’t do enough.
Was pretty easy to guess, limited number of people I know would bother cropping and using so many reaction images and my first guess was wrong so...
Score: 7/10
Difficulty: 2/10

Shu: Uggggh whyyy. Honestly sorry but they were kind of annoying. They were in character yes but they didn’t go past the single personality trait for most of it. Plus they kept jumping in and seemingly trying to ruin other Monster’s moments. They didn’t even make enough moments of their own they sorta...piggy-backed off other’s. They kept it going but they...just didn’t execute it all too well. It was a bit tough to guess because of how many it could be and lack of concrete evidence. Then after I guessed them they started posting at the same time as their normal account. I actually was certain after they interacted with the Monster account a bit too...awkwardly.
Score: 5/10
Difficulty: 6/10 then 2/10

Godzilla: No offense. But given the person playing. Kinda expected this. Was a fun build up, and their posts were entertaining, then...nothing. Which causes their score to drop a lot. And given that’s exactly what a certain someone often does...not a hard guess. Plus large monster stuff.
Score: 3/10
Difficulty: 2/10

Murtaugh: ....I am unsure. They interacted a lot, tried to do things themselves and with others, had a decent start and was fairly clever with the entrance/exit stuff. But they also kind of...tried a bit too hard to make things exciting. Which resulted mostly in salt and frustration. They did keep it up and weren’t the worst at what they tried to do, though.
Was hard to guess due to not really knowing what things their main account were into. But certain things, such as attitude leaking through, eventually gave it away.
Score: 6/10
Difficulty: 8/10

Void: Um. Ehhh? Their game was decent, though more edits needed for sure, and they made some interesting posts. But they were kind of non-existent outside of a few areas and, given their main account’s activity, this bothers me greatly. Honestly the main thing that made me guess them was Berserk. There were a couple I figured it could be but that and the counting game sorta sold it.
Score: 3/10
Difficulty: 5/10

Splendorman: WOOOOO! I loved this Monster for the most part. Their game was great, their characterization was on point, and they had a lot of fun moments....kind of. They also didn’t interact much at all beyond a few things and were just generally inactive outside of their game. Was a bit tricky to guess who it was and only got it because of activity, music tastes, and process of elimination.
Score: 7.5/10
Difficulty: 7/10

Undertaker: Just no. Maybe the joke was a last minute entry, cause wrestling, maybe they were busy. But. Just...literally did less than anyone and proceeded to try and do something last minute despite not even introducing themselves until then.
And honestly I got it because I assumed The Undertaker was the wrestler when I found out the name.
Score: 1/10
Difficulty: Artificial Difficulty Due to Not Existing. 2/10

Dahlia: :( She was quite well done, character-wise. But they...didn’t go anywhere. They even stopped responding to things directly involving them. Just vanished...ghost-like. :P
Wasn’t hard to guess person behind it. In part because of activity but mostly because of potential plus the choice of character itself.
Score: 3.5/10
Difficulty: 3/10

Flavius: This is a tough one in the sense they were really active. The issue is they sort of...their posts kind of were half frustration and it felt as though they were annoyed that others didn’t “get” their thing. They cleaned up their act partway through but they sorta fell into the trap of trying to be too friendly and attempting to be liked/understood too much. But they stuck with it and were characterized well. Also no game was sad. They were my first guess because it’s just...I can’t explain it but anyone who knows their player should be able to see it right away.
Score: 7/10
Difficulty: 1/10

Tropy: He. Had issues. He stuck around...most of it, though randomly vanished at points. He kept up with his game and he stayed in character mostly. Though he fell into a sort of...”Complaining/being an ass behind a gimmick” trap. So they were decent but nothing special. Appreciated the activity but they also were oddly not as interactive as they could have been.
Not gonna lie would have been harder to guess except they threw out being secretive in lieu of complaining about the past event.
Score: 6/10
Difficulty: 7.5/10 if not for one incident so instead 3/10

Elon: Kinda non-existent. They only posted a few things and it was sorta awkward cause the posts seemed to assume people would get wtf was going on. Which. Well. Certainly did not, personally.
I kinda guessed them as soon as I saw the art/what they were because it screamed a certain member. :P
Score: 3/10
Difficulty: 2/10

The Joker: Could have done much more. A lot of activity problems but pretty good characterization when they were active and a generally well done game. Though a game that probably should have been more...personal, something more Joker. It was a bit too generic. I was hoping to see more versions of The Joker but there wasn’t enough activity for that. Also tbh due to posting structure and being The Joker it could only be a couple people.
Score: 6/10
Difficulty: 3/10

Destiny-Hero: They were fun when they posted, had a neat game but they should have pressed harder to get anything from it, and overall...decent job, but just lacked presence enough to actually do much. Also the fortune thing and the poems sorta were the main hints for who it was but it was kinda tough honestly.
Score: 4/10
Difficulty: 8/10

Mauvache: Should have tried harder to get people involved. Didn’t really do much on their own. Stayed in character and tried at least.
Score: 7/10
Difficulty: 0/10

Overall I would say....6.5/10. It wasn't terrible, there were good moments, but in general it was lacking.

Aggggh...the posting habits and the choice...curses, the weaknesses in my facade! *dramatic pose insert here*

I'll have to ask about those slips of personal feelings later...but still, definitely glad I was one of the ones who did it right! ^^

I was really that easy? Damn. Oh well, at least you loved me, and that's all I ask for.

Well in my case, you gotta take into account the fact I have to juggle the class and homework load of a graduate student, but I know I should have done a bit more with the time I did have. Also since I signed up late in the game, I didn't have much time to fully flesh out my game. Also, The Animated series Joker is my personal preference, hence why I mainly stuck with that: I just knew that Joker best. Aside from all that, I think I did pretty well all things considering. And I wish I could have done more with Hades as well. >>

Thanks for the feedback! Destiny HERO - Malicious here. Yeah, admittedly I mainly joined the event to be a part of the Monster Duels side event and that was pretty fun, but the RP side of it doesn't come naturally to me and I had some difficulty staying engaged and maintaining my character throughout the event's timeline which I imagine wasn't much of a show on my part. That said I was really impressed with the job some of the other monsters did to get creative with their characters.

M. Night, Murtaugh, Flavius, Heavy, Erma, DANGANRONPA and Mauvauche in particular stood out to me, haven't checked the unmasking yet but great job!

There's a couple things I was thinking about, like, if you had time, starting with the original TV Joker then going in order of TV/Film/Cartoon Jokers might've been sweet.

Also I honestly forgot the Monster Duel stuff when writing this review. ^^; But yeah it's good that people stuck with that as well.

A 6 is very fair. I didn't have as much time as I would have liked to prepare the N. Tropy facade, so things fell very, very flat in that regard. If I had been able to prepare more in advance for a suitable monster and game I would have probably done better. I was running low on choices, so I went with what stuck. The choices I would have like to make (like Megabyte/Hexadecimal from Reboot) I just couldn't think of games in time for them, so i didn't use them. As for the complaining thing, I let my emotions get to me when Giga complained about what monsters should be like. Plus I kinda ran out of scathing things to do with him as well, which is why I ended up ghosting.

It's a stark difference to the Betty Boop/Toot Braustein ordeal last year, because I had been able to prepare that months in advance with no hurdles, unlike this year where I was tripped up by needing to think of a game in a few week's time.

tbh I dont really feel like you understand the point of Elon very well. The ambiguousity and confusing nature was entirely intentional and I dont see how its necessary to understand what actually is going on. Ambiguousity is meant to be confusing its all about trying to understand things so if you already understand it then that would defeat its purpose and if things were blatantly explained then that would also ruin the point. I gave the hints and you (even though technically the final angry Elon thread was pretty nuch giving everything away). Now of course im not saying that you arent allowed to say that you dont like Elon, by all means if youre not interested in that sort of stuff then that is completely fine thats your oen opinion and you are entitled to it. However I just really wanted to make the point that I wanted to do something that was weirder and a bit complex, one that had a backstory that needed to be figured out.

On the whole non-existence thing yeah ill admit that my activity went on the low a bit later into the event but I still managed to keep activity at a satisfactory level and got through what I wanted to get through, even if the ending was a bit rushed. Though the rushed ending is due to the fact that I initially didnt want to do this years because of me feeling bummed out about Kyuubi last year since I got into a horrible place during that October and it made it difficult for me to care and I was struggling to make very many posts, granted I still made it out with a satisfactory level of posting just didnt feel like I was amounting to very much. Thankfully I did do more with my account this year than I did last year. Though the biggest reason why I wasnt posting very much at all was because I didnt get much interaction from others, almost all of my threads ended up only having 1-2 replies and I found it difficult to make more material when I had less to go off of. Regardless of that and the fact that it wasnt as easy of a monster to "get" I am still glad that I had seen Catghost for the first time while there were still slots left and said "fuck it im gonna go into this years event". Elon was more experimental than my previous monsters and had the least amount of creative restaints. Id still say that Carrie was the monster I had the biggest blast being with Elon coming in at a close second.

Firstly, acclaimed writer and director M. Night Shyamalan, not acclaimed writer and director M. Night Shymalan. Educate yourself.

Secondly, shut up cuck!!! I will explain the story behind the story at some point soon, but not here in your cuck thread for CUCKS.

Meh, I tried to break from my normal posting pattern, I really did. Purposely altered how I normally typed as well with my main account. Unfortunately, this was a case of 'old habits die hard'. And in regards to how things were done, there is an actually reason I did not do a game with this guy. Flavius himself would have spaced on it. The only trait I failed to portray, mainly because I couldn't figure out how to portray that while roleplaying, is the fact that Flavius is rather scatterbrained despite his intelligence.

By the way, Mooer, are you sure it was him being nice, or him trying to blend in to better understand his potential future test subjects? :P

Mhm. Kinda expected that score for Shu.

Sorry for portraying him super obnoxiously. Like I said in the wrap-up thread, I made the mistake of flanderizing Shu to the point of a really cool character becoming a Saturday Morning Cartoon villain.

Still fun to play as, though. Had a good time doing stuff with the Granzon~

To be fair I didn't think I'd be that easy to guess as I don't remember mentioning me liking Red vs Blue on here to my knowledge

I will admit though, I could've done more, but hardly anyone was interested to be fair. Maybe I might've gotten more interest if I advertised it better, but it might've ended up the same.
