Rule 34 and Creators

Although there is a niche for every pervert on the internet, having Rule 34 for your character sets them above the rest. It's a sign that the person not only finds the character attractive, but also most likely enjoys the media you have created. That, or they have created the piece ironically, which still shows that they put time and effort into portraying your character a certain way.

I would be honored to have fans so fascinated by my work that they are aroused by my characters, but those who are more sensitive to sexual subjects could not be as receptive to their effort as I would be.

This thread is bound to receive some inspection so I would like to leave it at that.

laughing at Rule 34 - Creator Reactions on TVTropes. It was not related to the Rule 34 page.

"Bayonetta's creator Hideki Kamiya wasn't happy with smutty depictions of the character. Not because there's erotic work of her, but that it usually makes her submissive. Surprisingly, the doujin fandom responded by making Bayonetta the one in power in most doujins now."

I am so going to finish that page

By “Don’t slip up” do you mean “close the thread”?

By "don't slip up" he means "while not an inherently inappropriate thread, this is something that can very easily teeter off-balance and delve into so much inappropriateness that we end up closing the thread" I think. So yeah, we're keeping an eye on this thread folks, but keeping it open for now.

As for my take on Rule 34... if I created a character and discovered there was Rule 34 of them, I honestly wouldn't mind. Aeneas already covered my stance pretty well; I'd be flattered they feel that way. Not exactly my place - even as a character's creator - to say what people can and can't do with them after all. Okay well it is, but as someone who's been grabbing art of people's OCs off the internet and using them for my own RP characters for several years, I specifically am not in that kind of position. Plus it's fun to see what people come up with.

You knew what I meant but aight.

In detail with what Yui suggested, the quickest way for this to get out of hand is for someone to post something explicit.  And then I'll have to hand out bans, and I don't wanna do that.  So be on your p's and q's and it's all good.  Just a heads up b.

I find it fascinating the things people come up with.

I've always wanted to create something that people like enough to write fanfics about so that should tell how I feel about it.

It doesn't change the original creation after all and as long as people aren't claiming the character as their own I'm fine with it.

Now granted I do have issues with people writing my characters in RP without my permission but that's only for that specific area. I love seeing the different kind of art that people create and Rule 34 is just another kind of art.

Quite a lot of artists drew the porn of their own characters. It's not universal but it's something that happened decently often, so I imagine at least those people are fine with people drawing porn for their characters.

Granted though, sometimes R34 can happen not because of people liking said character but more out of either mockery or just from distaste of said character. I recall something like that happening to a character in a mobile game I play, so porn as the ultimate form of character appreciation isn't really universal.

Well for myself, I'd honestly be endlessly miffed if I'm an artist and my character's depiction in porn isn't accurate to my vision, something like the Hideki Kamiya mention above.

Myself getting Rule 34'd

Depends on how you do it, though I do NOT want to be the one being submissive in the work. (Then again, I haven't posted a pic of self so...how do you know what I look like?)

Characters

Most of the ones I have in fanfic are generally not intended for Rule 34, but assuming they do it right and satisfies me, then sure. At least people like the character enough to do stuff like this.

Then again, I usually use models from other characters for mine [because they look close enough to my ideal design and/or I don't have time to actually hand draw them, so I cannot really say what people can/cannot do with said characters. There are some that I made 2-D vector models of in Photoshop, but...

I think the only ones I posted here are the character models I used for the "Flyer" archetype; including the one that was my previous avatar. IDK, suppose I can try to upload OCs whenever I got time/interest in doing it. Lately, I'm just trying to draw Judy/Nick from Zootopia (and yeah, I have seen R34 of them).

Opinion on rule 34

It depends on the characters in question being placed into this situation. For the most part, I'm fine with it; though I've seen art on Pixiv of characters I like that shouldn't be.

Thanks for the template, Sakura! Just gonna appropriate that.

Of myself:

I wouldn't exactly object, but I'd be very, very confused. There's no real purpose at that point, because no matter who I'm being shipped with, real or fictional, I can tell you right off the bat that sexual intimacy is off the table because I'm just completely asexual. But . . . c'est la vie.

Of my characters:

Really depends on the character.

I say this mostly because a good chunk of the characters I've written are children, or at least underage, and R34 of underage characters squicks me especially hard. Just . . . no.

Anyone else, as long as they're mostly in-character (just as an offhand example, just because of how cheery and talkative a character like Medic from What Lies Within is, I see her as being energetic and vivacious in everything she does, so she'd go out of her way to pursue a romantic/sexual interest), go right on ahead. Characters aren't completely defined by their creator- sometimes fan perception is a colossal part of what a character ends up being.

General:

I don't entirely get it, but I can understand why it exists. Still, just . . . keep that sheet out of my house.

to me? depends, on the genre i'm depicted in, there's a lot of things i'd rather not be written into, but even those would be... somewhat flattering, considering somebody decided i was worth their time enough to depict me in such art.

as far as my creations, I'd probably approve if somebody used my characters in porn. it usually means they love them poor sanae. at least as far as characters created by me goes anyways. no reason not to approve really. unless those bastards create netorare filth with my pure creations, then they shall be purged from the earth by the rule of god

It depends..... On one hand, I'd love knowing somebody liked something I drew enough to make fanart about it.

On the other hand, even though I don't mind sexual portrayal whatsoever, I think I would mind if it was one of those awkward fetishes that I'm not sure if I'd be allowed to name, but that plague sites like DeviantArt..... That's like the only exception.

Other than that, R34 kind of stuff is fine IMO.

Hell if I care. funk, most people are looking at sheet with a voyeuristic view anyways, that they are just putting their imagination into something visual/readable. It is creepy, but I am not going to define my creation by the form of others, I'll let the community definition take on its own identity. I am not responsible for how others view or take on the the image that I put out there, I am only responsible for the image that I take on/create.

I dont really like the idea of drawing Rule 34 of real life people as it feels a bit creepy. If someone doesnt want their naked body being posted on the internet then drawing one for them isnt okay. However im not one to tell people what they can and cannot draw so im just gonna have to let it be if someone is drawing nudes of me.

People can draw as many lewds of any of my characters as they want. I find my own characters attractive so anyone else is allowed to express their attraction towards them. Even if I didnt like it then id still have to get over it considering that I wanna be a director who specializes in animation so R34 of my characters is gonna happen no matter what.

As for me Rule 34 iz muh fuckin liiiiiife.
