YCM Roast 2017 [Saturday, November 25, 2017]

First and foremost, let's get a few things out of the way. This is just a pitch. If the majority of the community supports the event, we'll put it into action and begin taking volunteers and selecting roasters.

What is a roast?

A roast consists of a gathering of persons to "rag" or "roast" (to make fun of) someone else in good sport. Typically the "roastee" volunteers to be the butt of the joke.

This is as big of a heads-up as you will get! If you volunteer to be roasted, know what you're signing up for. Roasters will be ruthless (but tasteful within YCM's guidelines). Don't take anything personally and go off crying about it.

If the "Roastee" volunteers, how are roasters selected?

For the most part, staff will handle roaster selection. Over time, everyone will have a chance to participate ( as a roastee or roaster) so you'll have to be patient. More often than not, the host will be a participating roaster, and so we may select up to three additional roasters to partake.

Will there be prizes or rewards?

That hasn't been completely delved into as of yet. I think we can of course reward volunteers for putting themselves out there, and we can of course look for prizes for best joke, worst joke, most brutal joke, etc. Because this is just a pitch, prizes won't be discussed right now.

What would the time length of the roast be?

Two to three days at the most. This will give roasters the chance to build their jokes and roastees to reply in kind. If the event is successful, we will try to hold it annually around early to mid November every year.

What are the rules for the roast?

Only roasters may roast the roastee. Members can comment on jokes, but are not allowed to roast anyone. The roastee may get in a joke if they choose but it's more typical for the volunteer to take the jokes and laugh at them than to joke back.

How will you roast the volunteer?

We will ask the roastee to submit at least one image of themselves (if they're comfortable). Otherwise roasting will focus on how the roastees are known.

What if no one volunteers?

Then I will.

Discuss.

I volunteer. Should be fun to see what people say.

We're not taking volunteers right away.  This is just a pitch to see if the community can get behind the idea of an annual roast for YCM.  Good of you to volunteer tho.  I'll keep that in mind.

I'd sign up as tribute. Though, I think it'd be a couple years too late for me. XD

But yeah, this could be worth a trial run for consideration to the event calendar. Seems to bring the unexpected into the equation quite well. Now I hope this is better than the Senior roast my Fraternity had...

Seems like a fun idea for the calendar. If this becomes an annual thing, would we expect a repeated date or just around the same time frame

In my head, I'd like to aim for the week of thanksgiving. I'll talk more details with the team and see if we can coordinate a set annual day if this works out.

speedroid is so going to win best roaster

Also, this sounds hilarious, smash'd threads on dgz were incredible

Glad you're interested. If Speed wins I'll make you a prophet.

I like the idea, things like this are what brings communities closer. I'd volunteer as a roastee, but is personal image mandatory for it? I'm a bit paranoiac about it.

How will you roast the volunteer?

We will ask the roastee to submit at least one image of themselves (if they're comfortable). Otherwise roasting will focus on how the roastees are known.

I believe that means it isn't mandatory if you aren't comfortable with it.
