Trickstar Carobein (トリックスター・キャロベイン) [tentative name translation]
LIGHT / Level 5 / Fairy / Effect
2000 ATK / 1000 DEF
You can only use either this card name’s (1) or (2) effect per turn, and only once that turn.
(1) If you control no monsters, or all monsters you control are “Trickstar” monsters: You can Special Summon this card from your hand.
(2) From the start of the Damage Step, to before damage calculation, if a “Trickstar” monster you control battles an opponent’s monster: You can send this card from your hand to the GY; that monster you control gains ATK equal to its original ATK, until the end of this turn.

I like this a lot. Self-summoning effect for Link plays and stuff, and Honest-like hand traps are always a nasty surprise. If anything, I would have preferred for it to be Level4 for Fairy Cheer Girl plays, but no complaints. Besides, the Level5 may be handy for Transmodify or Downbeat plays or ID, and Rank5s, especially Pleaides, are welcomed, too.

CyDra + Crane can't go wrong. In fact, it is a little better than those, because CyDra won't Summon more than 1 of them at a time.  Also, both effect lack a hard OPT clause so Trickstars can now REALLY beat down good.

But more importantly, it is interesting to see a Christmas themed card art right about the right time of the year (well, one month away but whatever, close enough). Hope Konami makes more like this, it is a nice touch IMO.

funk this card and funk Trickstars. Limit Reincarnation. I'm out.

Trickstar players will probably opt to run this over Honest, so at least it'll still be possible to beat over them with this unlike Honest (unless they run both, which would be savage). By the time this comes out I'll probably just be running Overtex Coatls pill turbo anyway though and flip them down with UCT.

Uh... not only the effects do have a hard OPT, also I realized it's the kind of complex clause seen on Dragon Rulers and Shaddolls, in that you can only use 1, and only once per turn. That does make it a bit more cumbersome than I thought, as you cannot do tricks like Summoning 1 copy and discarding the other for a 4000 ATK attack in, or return the same copy you Summon to the hand with Lycoris and discard it, in the same turn, but should still be good.

Oh crap.... I got mixed up there. Happens to me sometimes because of the weird way JP cards put all those in the beginning.

Well, if the card didn't have a hard OPT clause, I wouldn't say it is unbalanced, but I guess then it's still solid.

Bujin Crane used to do it for +1900 ATK when not rising an Xyz's ATK, this card will cap at 2k from what I've seen, but this archetype can alter ATK in other ways so it's all fine and dandy.

They also with the field and their Stratos, have pretty decent ways to get to this card.

*cough, now to edit my previous post.....

as much as i love them, i agree with you fully.

never gonna happen. trickstar decks need BP protection on their monsters, and even with this thing in existence, the sheer dominance of honest as far as ATK boosting will always earn it a spot in decks with fragile light monsters and lots of room. trickstars aren't really strapped for space just yet, and they've been dying for a few more decent monsters to play around with. if anything, this will just make them run honest AND carobein for even more ways to OTK out the ass.

besides that though, the dual hard OPT isn't really a problem. both effects are worthy of it in the deck, and having 2 in hand simply means you have more summons to play with for your turn, and extra battle insurance on your opponent's turn. considering how good lyricossa is at screwing up targeting effects when dropped, and how disruptive the deck is against your opponent's hand, carobein is perfect for both mindgames and enhancing field prescence. bounce your carobein back if it's targeted, and your opponent won't be dumb enough to swing into your lyricossa, giving you, at minimum, BP protection for the turn, and since the deck remains all light types, the hand trap of trust issues himself, honest, will never be too far from the mind of your opponent either. it's not meta redefining, but it opens up a new dimension of play, that while not inaccesible before, was rather lacking in comparison to the burn stategy until now (honestly it's still somewhat lacking, but it will be, at the very least, more consistent overall post carobein, than the standard burn strategies.) not to mention, we all know reincarnation is getting hit in a list or two, so this is perfectly fine as a replacement for that beautifully degenerate trap card.

I feel like they could've done cooler things with this card that did more with the Effect Damage gimmick. For example, have it deal 200 damage when it's Special Summoned by its own effect. That means Lycrosis could combo with the card to do more some damage without degenerating into FTKs and such.

As for the Bujingi Crane bit, It's ok I guess. Keeps your Trickstars on the board. Great that they made it a SHOPT so that you couldn't do a bunch of Special Summoning shenanigans making the FTK potential even greater.

they'll make either a second Summon Spell/Trap or a GY summoner for Trickstars (well besides Snow), THEN limit Reincarnation-not a step before. I've seen how they work with this.

To this card though, a strictly better Dark Angel with Pleiades summoning capacity and a way to offer more avenues for burn through the battle phase-this + Honest plus Lightstage + DRoN = nope city

Might run up another Level 5 to really up the ante with this Deck once it gets enough monsters to reliably get you solid draw power-Tethys. lol sike naw Agent Venus and Arch Kristya all the way and y'all FOOLS for not finding a way to incorporate them into Trickstars faster who says no to a free Link 4 in a Fairy compatible Deck okay well besides me until now.

But yeah, love the card.

the main weakness the deck has is gy utility, reincarnation mitigates that, but the problem there is we all know it's getting hit sometime down the line, lilybell somewhat soothes the problem as well, by being an easily summoned 800-1000(with field) damage that recovers your monsters from the grave. carobein comes in here though, as another good monster to have in hand, and a new way to get past bigger/ more troublesome monsters via battle. assuming you have another monster on the field besides lily, you can swing with lily, add carobein, and safely swing on up to 3600 ATK mosnters, even more if you're using any of the link monsters. konami will likely do something ridiculous with the archetype before hitting reincarnation, but this is nice too. becauselolgiveusyourmoney

tethys might actually be a decent addition now. the lack of summonable/drawable monsters, and the overabundance of burn use is what's keeping it out for now the deck has more than enough support to make tethys not sompletely worthless, though iris ( http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Iris,_the_Earth_Mother )would be the better option imo, since you will doubtless still be abusing many chain links even after reincarnation gets the hammer.
