Photon Sanctuary

Normal Spell

Special Summon 2 "Photon Tokens" (Thunder-Type/LIGHT/Level 4/ATK 2000/DEF 0) in Defense Position. These Tokens cannot attack or be used as Synchro Material Monsters. You cannot Summon other monsters the turn you activate this card, except for LIGHT monsters

Have been thinking about bringing this card up, and after the Searing Fire Wall thread, now it looks like a good time to do so, to go with the discussion on Token Spells.

This card's applications in the Link era should be clear: It gives you 2 monsters right away, without spending your Normal Summon. I thought the card would pick up attention once the Link Hoshiningen was released but... LAN Pholinks happen to be LIGHT, so there shouldn't be much need to wait too long anymore.

Of course, the catch with this card is that it locks you into Summoning only LIGHT monsters. Needless to say, this shouldn't be an issue for LIGHT decks, so I'm more interested into discussing if it would be possible to tech this card in non-LIGHTs, perhaps an opening play that involves only LIGHTs for example, or if the inability to access non-LIGHT generics and techs is actually more restraining than it seems. For instance, somewhat relevant LIGHT decks like ABCs wouldn't be able to access Genius, Decode Talker, Destrudo, etc.

Discuss.

I think the draw back is almost negligible because 1) it doesn't cost you a Normal Summon, 2) it doesn't have a hard once per turn, and 3) if your Deck is mostly dedicated to Light monsters, and your Light Extra Deck monsters have some good utility to work with you are generally fine to lose out on other options.

Not to mention LIGHT Attribute dedicated archetypes have accumulated a lot over the years: Star Seraph, Lightsworn, Trickstar, Galaxy, Blue-Eyes, Hieratic, Buijin, ABC, Artifacts, Batterymen, Worms, Cyber Dragon, Photon, Melodius, Hunders, etc.

Sure some aren't viable, but even then there is still a lot to work with. The card has a lot of potential.
