So we all know about the Electrum/Astrograph combo that exists, but what about the Dark Magician Girl to his Dark Magician? Is it worth devoting a slot (potentially 1 copy of Astrograph?) to a card that doesn't generate advantage? It extends, but we're talking Pends, and aren't incremental -1s from cards like this going to hurt you?

I have thoughts on it already, but would rather start with a prompt instead of talking about whether or not I believe it has merit.

It's a little inaccurate to call this a -1, as that depends on the interactions it's used in. In cases, like say a Metalfoes destruction, the overall combo is a break-even that just changes the positions of the cards in your hand. Of course, the card isn't good on the basis of advantage because, unlike Astrograph, it's not increasing your overall card-count and turning break-even plays into gained advantage. But, this card isn't Astrograph, and what it's good at is putting monsters on the field.

The Pendulum Summon is kinda like a Normal Summon in that it's a one-time (typically) action in a turn that moves into combos. With that in mind, having a card like this that allows you to put out monsters and do things with them without having to use your Normal or Pendulum Summons means that, if it's being used well in the right situations, lets you put out more things to use with and play with combos that ultimately increase your card advantage, or upturn what the opponent is trying to do.

It's a pretty good card, overall. It does take a bit more cards in the hand to make use of, and some decks won't be able to take advantage of that because of how important a singular card in the hand can be for them, but for the decks that can make use of it should maybe give it a shot.

unless the lvl matters that much astrograph will be te better option (to run)

Pretty much this. In Igknights this card's level is very relevant for overlaying into Beatrice, dumping Argent Chaos Force and setting up Utopic ZEXAL. It's a little harder post-MR4 but Electrum should help and Kyrios can be used instead of Beatrice now.

Late, but better than never.

I believe the card is actually good. It's not always going to be better than Astrograph, but it has nothing to do with its level. Like yeah, some decks are going to appreciate level niches, but Links change the game a lot in that regard.

The reason this card is good is because:

  1. You only have to run 1 copy.
  2. You can use it alongside Astrograph.
  3. You should be running 2-3 Electrum anyway, so this can be put into the ED by the second copy.
  4. Cards like Rescue Animals, Pendulum Sorcerer, or things with activated effects that lead to summons also benefit.
  5. SS from the hand to make, say, Starving Venom is a good way to bait out the opp's answers, or to simply extend.

It's not an every hand card, at all, but it's available from basically every hand, so while I don't think it's required, I think it's a good option that isn't the worst to draw for a vanilla SS itself, at worst.

Cards like this and Skulldeat address one of the natural design weaknesses of Pendulum: you get to SS from hand just once. While the pendulum summon is strong, being able to proc cards before you PS aid very strong, and you’d prefer to use the PS to restock, not to initially generate.
