But seriously speaking, they encourage any YCM member to offer their help. I personally would love to but I don't know the first thing about coding, so I gulp down my curiosity and hope they succeed.

It's a weapon to surpass Metal Gear.

Stop that.  Don't spam.  Funny, but don't.

It's not a secret. Crowd sourced cardmaker update for link and pendulums

Exactly this.  It's not some big well kept secret.  It's a step to revive the cardmaker and make Yu-gi-oh Cardmaker about making cards again.

Last time this site was used to make cards was 2007 l0l.

It's about damn time though. I wanted to make some links to play around with potential ideas for decks.

Only reason it's locked is because we don't want guests getting in.

Only reason it's not open to general members is because we don't want guests making an account just to look at the forum.

also spook factor

Mostly the above two.

1. We don't want guests ripping off our code and then making their own brand of YCM.

2. Even with the security measures in place, we still get guests for that (i.e. we get guys who still register via Twitter). Also makes it easier than having to make it accessible to only a certain group and modifying prospective members individually.

There's nothing secret about it, except just trying to figure out how to approach the problem and all. Right now. it's just planning out what the core features need to be. My hope is that we can succeed in making a functional cardmaker, but a lot of the internal functions still need to be worked out / are unavailable from our end.

At least we're doing something about the cardmaker, even if we can't actually FIX / access the coding right now, as opposed to saying "YCMaker needs to get his ass over here, but he hasn't shown up". We've gotten a lot of newbies asking "when are we getting Pendulums/Links"; general answer is literally "when admin gets over here / if he still gives a damn". I admit it is discouraging, but that's really all we can manage at this time.

If any of you have coding experience, then that'll be of some help to us. Would be nice if we could enlist TheProgrammer for assistance, but he's busy with TCGEditor/other stuff and don't know if he'd be willing to.

Regarding the coding of the new cardmaker, are you trying to solve it server or client-side? The current one seems to generate them on the server… though I'm not 100% positive about that.

Creating a client-side solution should be able to bypass most (if not all) privilege issues, but it comes with a whole new share of issues. Browser support being the major one to worry about. Another issue I could foresee is with the fonts; not everyone has them installed, which requires sharing them (which goes against the copyright notice). Then there is also the point of others being able to steal the source code far more easily…

Despite the listed issues, I might be able to help with development of the newest version of the cardmaker if it is client-side. Though I might need the password for that section, if it is to be discussed there (private message?).

We're doing it on a separate site (Striker's providing it), because (1) we can't actually modify the cardmaker's coding and (2) do not want to risk either breaking the cardmaker further or pissing off YCMaker for tampering with his code majorly.

But basically, see what can be done with the code and how to make it function similarly to ours, except with Pendulum/Link support, then figure out how to add it when we can get access to the coding. If it works, we can look into doing it. If not, then we tried.

I'll PM you the password.

Basically, members who want to work on the project can collab on it. Doesn't have to be actual programming, though it does help to have more people experienced with it on board.

Let me know if y'all need any help.  I don't know how much free time I have, but I do web development for a living, so I suppose I'm a professional by definition.
