Snatch Steal
The word “pretentious” is used to refer to speech or writing that emulates moralistic, idealistic wisdom of its speaker or writer. The “creative people vs ordinary people” meme is pretentious because the creators elevated themselves on a cliched moral which everyone understands, yet did not take into account the fact that there are many different lifestyles and by suggesting that a single choice should prevail over the rest, the creators made themselves open to ridicule from defensive internet users who had qualms with their flawed sermon. What makes text or speech pretentious? Are there specific issues, such as race, gender, equality, pacifism, happiness, fitness, perseverance, growth mindset, etc. pretentious to you? Upon introspection, do you find yourself pretentious? What are ways to mitigate pretentiousness, and when should they be employed?
