Each dot in a row or column has a value the sum of those values is in the respective row or column Each dot's value is determined by some pattern The goal of this is to: A. On average, the people on this site don't actually follow any trail of logic and exist in an echo-chamber of their own pettiness. This is too much work. Also, I am terrible at patterns. While at the core it might have been to "alleviate a fleeting moment of boredom", it still had a purpose for people to solve. Any set of instructions is done for an expected outcome. Sure the puzzle has a solution, but it'd be unfair if it didn't and couldn't be reached intuitively. The fact that the solution is unorthodox and unintuitive to most people, and by complaining that this too much work to solve is to miss the entire point.
