Shino (しの‏) went 7-0-2 and finished 1-2nd in “36th Adachi CS with Hatti CS”

World Legacy Inheritor and Dark Armed Dragon are two new innovations that he has brought in for the Plant deck.

World Legacy Inheritor functions as an additional revival card alongside Monster Reborn and Soul Charge, giving the deck more outs to disruption.

Dark Armed Dragon is played in the Side Deck, providing additional fire power when going second.

He has also packed Forbidden Chalice in the Side Deck as a counter to Abyss Dweller and Inspector Boarder.

Zefra
D Tsukai (D使い) went 9-0 and finished 1st in the “2nd Lucky Cup” (Team 2v2).

As Plant becomes increasingly popular, more Zefra players are including Inspector Boarder in the Side Deck.

Altergeist
On Saturday, GenGen went 5-1-1 and finished 2nd in “5th Yu-ky CS” which had 38 participants.

On Sunday, GenGen went 4-3-2 and finished 1-2nd in “36th Adachi CS with Hatti CS” (Team 3v3).

He has been testing with a copy of Temple of the Kings in the Side Deck.

When going first, Temple of the Kings allows him to activate his Trap Card on the same turn, enabling Altergeist Multifaker right on the go. By having Altergeist Protocol or Unending Nightmare preemptively activated on his turn, he would be able to activate their effect, even if the rest of his face-down Trap Cards are sealed by Red Reboot.

Temple of the Kings is also useful when going second in the Altergeist mirror match, allowing him to develop his board at the same pace as his opponent.

Magician
Buku (ぶーくー) went 7-0-2 and finished 1-2nd in “36th Adachi CS with Hatti CS” (Team 3v3).

He ran a copy of Odd-Eyes Arc Pendulum Dragon for a Pendulum Scale 8 that is searchable by the effect of Odd-Eyes Revolution Dragon.

The Pendulum Effect of Odd-Eyes Arc Pendulum Dragon is irrelevant in this deck as the only “Odd-Eyes” monster in the deck is Odd-Eyes Revolution Dragon. Odd-Eyes Revolution Dragon cannot be Special Summoned except by the summoning method listed in its effect.

Plant

The popularity of Plant continues to soar as many renowned Japanese players have made the switch to Plant.

Tsujimura Ryosuke “ひつじ” (2017 World Champion) went 6-1-1 and finished 2nd in “37th Adachi CS with Hatti CS”.

Momiji Daiki “モミジ” (5 – 8th in World Championship 2016, 9 – 26th in World Championship 2017) went 4-2-2 and finished 1st in “37th Adachi CS with Hatti CS”.

They were originally playing Zefra earlier in OCG 2018.01 Metagame Report #1, but have made the switch as Plant became much more formidable with the addition of Call of the Grave, Red Reboot, and the Troymares.

Magician

Ishida (いしだ) went 8-0-1 and finished 1st in “1st Masaki CS” which had 60 participants.

He had brought back an old school tech – Mist Valley Apex Avian.

In addition to being Pendulum Summoned, Mist Valley Apex Avian can also be Special Summoned by the effect of Chronograph Sorcerer. This potentially allows Mist Valley Apex Avian to negate twice in the same turn.

Zefra

Takepuu (たけぷぅ) went 6-2 and finished 3 – 4th in “1st Masaki CS” which had 60 participants.

He ran a small package of Genex cards (2 Genex Undine, 1 Genex Controller, 1 Crystron Rosenix, 1 Mecha Phantom Beast O-Lion in the Main Deck, and 1 Link Spider in the Extra Deck) for a more explosive Crystron Needlefiber opening.

Genex Zefra is a very high risk high reward build. Drawing Genex Controller or Crystron Rosenix in the opening hand would cause the whole Genex Undine combo to brick.

ABC

Yada Makoto “バコ” (5 – 8th in World Championship 2016) with his teammates, Muhi (むひ) and LinkLink, finished 1 – 2nd in “6th Aichi CS with Hatti CS” (Team 3v3) which had 57 teams (171 participants).

All 3 of them were playing the exact identical 70 cards, but finished with varying records. Yada Makoto went 6-2-1, Muhi went 8-0-1, and LinkLink went 4-3-2.

ABC aims to turbo out Crystron Needlefiber which would develop into a board of Firewall Dragon, Troymare Gryphon in the Main Monster Zones and ABC-Dragon Buster in the Extra Monster Zone.

The effect of Troymare Gryphon creates a soft-lock, preventing monsters which are not linked from activating their effects.

Having 3 Main Monster Zone opens allows ABC-Dragon Buster to split into A-Assault Core, B-Buster Drake, C-Crush Wyvern during the opponent’s turn. Any two of A, B, C can be used to Xyz Summon Daigusto Emeral, whose effect would then shuffle ABC-Dragon Buster back into the Extra Deck, allowing ABC-Dragon Buster to be Special Summoned a second time.

Conclusion

Plant is pulling ahead, while the Pendulum decks, Magician and Zefra, are holding on steadfast behind.

The performance for ABC this week is heavily skewed by the data from result of a single tournament. We will have to observe if ABC could replicate its success across various other tournaments before we can conclusively evaluate its strength in the current competitive scene.

Magician

Inakingu (いなきんぐ) went 6-1 and finished 1st in “33rd Oretachi Trading Card Division CS” (Team 2v2) which had 53 teams (106 participants).

He ran PSY-Framegear Gamma due to the prevalence of Plant in the previous weeks.

Imperial Order in the Side Deck is mainly against Sentouki, which had gain quite some popularity over this week.

Sentouki

“Sentou” Spell Cards have an additional effect that is applied when 3 or more Spell Cards are in the graveyard, allowing them to trade one-for-two against the opponent. This allows Sentouki to pull ahead in card advantage, especially when the game drags on.

Osee (おせぇ) went 6-0-1 and finished 1 – 2nd in “5th Hakata CS with Hatti CS” (Team 3v3) which had 44 teams (132 participants).

To quickly fulfill the condition of 3 or more Spell Cards in the graveyard, he ran a full set of Toon Table of Contents and Toon World. Toon Table of Contents would search for copies of itself before ending with Toon World, which could then be used for the activation of Sentou Airspace Area Zero.

A copy of Toon Cyber Dragon is played in the Side Deck, to be swapped with Toon World when going second. Toon Cyber Dragon rids the opponent’s threat in the Extra Monster Zone by using them to Special Summon Chimeratech Megafleet Dragon.

Altergeist

Mattuoff (マッツoff) went 7-1 and finished 1st in “1st Hami CS” which had 70 participants.

In his Main Deck, he played 3 copies of Torrential Tribute, a rather underrated Trap Card but very synergistic with Altergeist.

When going first, Altergeist generally commits only to the backrow, setting a couple of Trap Cards, but not summoning any monsters. This makes Torrential Tribute an effective board wipe for disrupting the opponent’s play, and at the same time triggering Altergeist Multifaker.

When going second, the 3 copies of Torrential Tribute can be smoothly switched out for 3 copies of Evenly Matched.
