  1. 1. Did we get screwed by the IRL release?

    • Nah, the real thing is decent.
    • GIMME GIMME GIMME THAT ANIME EFFECT
    • Doesn't matter either way.

In other words, Kaiba's ultimate boss from the first movie! This isn't much of a functional change, but it does alter a few interactions.

Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon [TCG/OCG]

LIGHT - Level 8 - Dragon/Effect - 3000/2500

Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned by Tributing 1 "Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon", and cannot be Summoned by other ways. This card gains 300 ATK for each Dragon-Type monster in your Graveyard. During either player's turn, if a card or effect is activated that targets this card (except during the Damage Step): You can negate that effect.

Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon [ANIME]

LIGHT - Level 8 - Dragon/Effect - 3000/2500

Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned by Tributing 1 face-up "Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon" on either field, and cannot be Summoned by other ways. This card gains 300 ATK for each Dragon-Type monster in your Graveyard. If a card effect would affect this card: This card's controller decides whether that effect affects this card. During your Battle Phase, you can Tribute this face-up monster: Send all face-up cards on the field to the Graveyard.

So, what's the damage, in YCM's opinion? Honestly, the nuke effect is pretty cool, and I'm disappointed that it didn't retain that . . . but I'm split on the protection. Each version comes with weaknesses, but I think that I prefer the anime version in that regard, too. The fact that it can be Summoned off of an opponent's BEUD is kinda pointless, but hey.

The movie's virus needs Fiends and Kaiba Tributed a Spellcaster, so I can say they didn't even think about the consequences of the anime effects in-universe when designing these.

Shining Dragon would make more sense as a semi-nomi because Monster Reborn worked on it. Not to mention Yugi had 2 Defense Position monsters (Obnoxious Celtic and Watapon) which didn't get popped on the first Shining pop that tried to destroy the Pyramid, so I'm also not sure the official anime effect is accurate there.

By all means the anime effect is better though. Even if you never wanted to pop a card(s) with it, you get the same ATK boost and a better immunity effect, which actually lets you nuke the board in other ways without affecting it.

That said, I still will never get over the fact Dark Paladin will always beat it by battle on either version (granted, this card can pop Dark Paladin in the worst case, but still).

I want something along the lines of:

Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned by Tributing 1 "Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon". Gains 500 ATK and DEF for each Dragon monster on the field and in the GYs. (Quick Effect): You can Tribute this card; banish 1 card on the field. During your next Standby Phase, if it was Tributed this way; you can banish 1 "Blue-Eyes" card in your GY; Special Summon this card. If a card/effect would affect this card, you can choose if it is affected.

^quick non-target quick banish removal, because it is supposed to be able to kill the gods, and it can't do so if it allows them to touch the GY, anime Ra's favorite place.

It gets unfairly good immunity, an insane ATK boost easily doubled by Red-Eyes B. Dragon Sword, and it gets a self-revival effect for good measure even though that'd be the drop that spills the glass in terms of it staying balanced xD

"If a card effect would affect this card: This card's controller decides whether that effect affects this card."

Interesting effect tbh. Think the wording would be more like this though:

"If a card or effect is activated that would affect this card, you can make this card unaffected by that card or effect.", comma since I don't think it would be chainable.

or probably just

"This card is unaffected by your opponent's card effects." but that would be boring.

Personally like the effect. Might eventually use it on something else.
