Woah havent post an archetype in a long time...so lets shake up these rusty thinking sprokets with one of my favorite series the Sphinxes! not only that, we gonna make it work with both Beast-type Pyramid of Light Sphinxes and the Flip-Flop Rock Sphinx for maximum madness! Just the way i like it~

For you who wondering: why "phinx" wording? Just like Qli for Qliphort, is to tied different Sphinx we have since its so happen to have undercase "s" for rock sphinx and capital "S" for Beast Sphinx

Frontline of Sacred Temples

Field Spell

Based on the total combine number of your face-down cards you control and Banished you can apply 1 or more of the following effect. You can only use the effect of "Frontline of Sacred Temples" once per turn.

@ 1 or more: "Exxod, Master of the Guard", "phinx" Monster(s), and face-down monster(s) you control cannot be targeted and/or be destroyed by opponent card effect.

@ 3 or more: you can Banish 1 card you control or in your hand face-down: add 1 "Exxod, Master of the Guard", "Pyramid of Light", or "phinx" card from your Deck to your hand.

@ 5 or more: if you control no face-up monster you can Normal Summon 1 Level 5 or Higher "phinx" Monster without Tribute(s) in face-up Attack position.

The one that start it all. It protects, search, and giving you Sphinxes for free. All for just commiting to your face-down cards! You can even make it live with Pot of Desire like nobody business

Manusiha the Caretaker Sphinx

EARTH / Level 2 / Beast / Flip/ Effect

FLIP: Draw 1 card. If you control "Pyramid of Light", Draw 2 cards instead

(Quick Effect) You can change this face-down card on your Main Monster Zone to face-up defense position: target 1 face-up monster on the field; Change that target to face-down Defense position. If its still face-up when this effect resolved, inflict damage to opponent equal to half of that target ATK. During your Main Phase: You can change this card to face-down Defense Position. You can only used each effect of "Manusiha the Caretaker Sphinx" once per turn.

ATK 900 / DEF 1900

A neat draw power. That can be self triggered along with buffed up BoM effect that can inflict damage to opponent if that target simply wont bow down (well Link monster also) you can also use it to set your own monster if you need to

Naravirala, the Redeemer Sphinx

EARTH / Level 2 / Beast / Flip / Effect

FLIP: Return 1 monster or Pendulum card on Pendulum Zone on your opponent field or in his/her GY to its owner hand.

(Quick Effect) You can change this face-down card on your Main Monster Zone to face-up defense position: target 1 face-up monster you control; that target gain 1000 ATK/DEF until the End Phase. During your Main Phase: You can change this card to face-down Defense Position. You can only used each effect of "Naravirala the Redeemer Sphinx" once per turn.

ATK 900 / DEF 1900

Technically a Honest or Juragedo for the archetype. Saving your skin and a monster you wanna keep with 1000 boost with a bonus of bouncing problematic monster back

Nicolonia, the Judgement Sphinx

EARTH / Level 2 / Beast / Flip / Effect

FLIP: You can Normal Summon 1 "phinx" monster (in addition to your Normal Summon if activated on your turn)

During your Main Phase: You can change this card to face-down Defense Position. You can only used each effect of "Nicolonia the Judgement Sphinx" once per turn.

ATK 900 / DEF 1900

A field establisher. Can be combo'ed with Field Spell to fielding huge beater fast. While the quick flip effect provide targets for it

Sharabba, the Destroyer Sphinx

EARTH / Level 3 / Rock / Flip / Effect

FLIP: Special Summon 1 "phinx" monster from your GY or either player Banished card

Manticore the Polysphinx

EARTH / Level 3 / Rock / Flip / Effect

FLIP: For the rest of this turn, the effects of non-Spell card on opponent hand or GY cannot be activated

If your opponent has 5 or more cards in his/her hand (Quick Effect): You can change this face-down card on your Main Monster Zone to face-up defense position; both player Shuffle all card in their hands to his/her Deck. and then both player draw same number of card they Shuffled.During your Main Phase: You can change this card to face-down Defense Position. ATK 900 / DEF 1900

Basically to boost impact on all Rock Sphinxes bounce effect. Screw your opponent setups and stopping extensive plays especially hand traps

The field spell has a weird wording. What does "the number of your face-down cards you control or Banished" mean? Does it mean number of FD cards plus number of cards banished fd? Also, do you want this to work on set s/t as well? those are fd. What does this wording mean???

1) turns all phinx cards into dark destroyer, but is innately splashable into any flip deck (Far as I remember, shadds don't have a field) because it applies to face down monsters. Shadds would love this card, seeing how much more relevant they currently are than sphinx.

2) One for one trade, lets you have 1 more fd for 3rd effect.

3) Okay... Got it.

FLIP: Draw 2 cards
(Quick Effect) you can flip this card face-up: target 1 face-up monster on the field; Change that target to face-down Defense position. If its still face-up when this effect resolved, inflict damage equal to that target ATK to opponent. Once per turn: You can change this card to face-down Defense Position.

That effect doesn't work. face down cards don't activate their effects while fd, partly why book of moon was so good for so many years. I mean, I could see how this works, but I think that should be in experimental, not here. It also doesn't work for being a reusable pot of greed. It's too usable, and drawing 2 on flip repeatedly is far too good for any deck, much less one that can use it twice on the very turn it's set, seeing the BOM effect isn't restricted to once per turn. You can set this, set one card on the field, draw 2, use it's effect to set this, then use BOM effect to set another card and draw 2.

It's a double book of moon pot of greed that eats up your normal summon. I don't know what was in mind when this was designed, but this is crazy broken. Oh, and the deck that would probably love it the most is chain burn. They don't summon much, and wasting a normal summon on 2 pot of greeds and several thousand in burn is insane.

No wait... The book of moon effect can target himself as long as another face up monster is on the field. Because he's face up during effect resolution, he can flip himself FD. Kinda like how zombie master can't activate it's eff unless you have a zombie in the grave, but when he activates it, he can summon the card you discarded. Photon thrasher Manusiha exodia new meta.

Nara:

Everything I said above applies to this card as well, but it doesn't garner you nearly as much advantage, but similar to the one above, you can use it the turn it's set, so you get an instant return 2 and permanent + 2k on monster. Because of attack modulation, the effect can be used in the battle phase, and an instant penguin soldier is a bit too good. The only saving grace is that it doesn't bounce your ow cards, which would turn this to an instant ban. Never mind, it works with the field spell, so yeah, both cards are instant bans

The field spell is really powerful, akin to the cyberdark one, but not incredibly broken. The 2 sphinx cards, on the other hand, are. Kill them with fire, and hope they never come back.

@Zepheris: yes the clause on field spell is a bit playful. But its basically counting face-down cards (yes both monster and S/T) on field as well your banished face-down cards which i already discribe is instantly live on Pot of Desire resolution. Commiting on multiple face-down on field alone kinda steep plays nowdays apparently

The Quick flip is basically based on old irl card the Big Shield Gardna. Although i must admit my version kinda vague. Definely gonna change that the resemble the irl reference more

Gonna clean and rebalance the card based on input. Thank you for reviewing
