Of course, I was just inherently testing the capability to actually use these plugins and in effect bring some new life in... again without an appropriate form to discuss these (I'd prefer not to be spamming the complaint thread)

 

I'm unsure where the best place would be to talk about it, especially directly to staff... I've disabled the Name Effects and @ing people temporarily until we can come to an agreement on the best place to discuss changes that I'm looking at making.

maybe either a PM or a thread that....Hmm, idk if it's possible to have a singular thread that's password protected, or perhaps we can just make a subforum with a password you can post the various things you can do. Would have to talk to Sakura/Flame

For any who're worried this is more to not get too many posts/requests. Not to hide anything. Anything that needs member input would get a public thread I imagine.

Sorry if I sounded rude btw I was just hella confused lol

I need to sleep but yeah, if Sakura or Flame can figure out a good place that'd be wonderful.

Oh wasn't rude at all, was level-headed, I shouldn't be making larger changes without notifying you guys (which to be fair I didn't really make any large changes) but a good place to discuss this would be ideal. 

 

I would even go as potentially far as saying the staff forum if necessary but that is, of course, up to the powers that be.

I poked the others about it, would try and figure out a place myself but as said, need sleep, and I probably shouldn't even be posting with my mind fuzzy right now lol

If I get on after sleeping and stuff and there's nothing done about it I'll try and see if I can do something myself.

There's  PHP file that Dova and Striker would have to create from scratch cause it's located on YCMaker's acct

Which is why we are doing client-side through Javascript instead of server-side through PHP. Why? Because even if we made a new PHP file, we wouldn't be able to get it in.

You might be able to now that Tormey can get int YCMaker's acct

 

I haven't accessed YCMakers account yet though, I've only done two things in regards to the Admin group.

 

Gave myself the group to bypass the Look & Feel section and then removed it. 

 

I was given ACP permissions by Sakura before I gave myself the Admin group.

 

That's not to say I can't get access.

While accessing YCMaker's account might be the thing to bring him back it most likely would bring him back to punish whoever did it and leave again.

 

What exactly can YCMaker do though? Permaban? Unbanned by the mods. IP ban? There is ways around it. Unless YCMaker takes Tormented to court or something. As White mentioned, not trying to pull a Crab, just need some coding.

Can we do something about the swear filter?

Yes, I know, the main argument against it is that 'Immature people will abuse it', so the rest of us have to deal with the censoring unless we hand over points, which is either a monthly thing, which is unsustainable unless you post in the Card Maker section, or if you hand over 40,000 for a permanent group, which is a lot of points, and will take a long time to get to. Yes, you can also be a Legendary Member, but that's 10,000 posts.

 

I've been here for almost two and a half years and I only have 1,553 posts. My 32,000 and some odd points are also only the result of a loophole, a mod friend, and the fact the shop is broken. This is honestly ridiculous to me. How long do I have to be here before I can be considered 'mature enough' to cuss? It really lessen the impact of them in my rp posts.

 

And to the argument that kids might be on this forum, well, you have to be 13 to legally make an account on here, and I'm sure if children can play rated M games, a teenager can handle some cussing. 

 

Edit: Someone gave me the remaining points to make myself a group. My point still stands, and I'm refusing to make this group until this question is resolved.

Personally I have always been of the mind that either no swears should be allowed or there shouldn't be a filter at all.

though I'll reinstate the "baka" filter for "baka" as soon as I can don't try and stop me

 

I disagree with the idea that swearing should be "earned" since it doesn't actually censor it even if one person who posts often isn't censored. All we have to do is punish people who do it too often.

Removing the swear filter is a good idea, I'd imagine. We're not stupid. We all understand English here, as it's the first language of an overwhelming majority of the site's memberbase, and most of the rest of the site is fluent in it anyway. Censoring swear words is pointless because we all know what that word there is, and the message the poster intends to convey with it. If we swear too much, just remove the offender's swear privileges. Settling for a lazy half-way option like requiring a person to get 10,000 posts or shelling out high amounts of points, like we currently do, is just the worst of both extremes put into one super-uncool package.

 

"Yeah, you can swear all you want, but unless you meet these criteria, we're going to censor all but the first letter. That will make it so nobody has any idea what you're saying." Genius!

 

And for that matter, if somebody really wants to dodge the filter, they're gonna figure out a way to do it anyway. Special characters that bear a striking resemblance to a letter in the word can be used in place of the actual letter, similar to what @@Hallohallo did when changing his name. So the filter is... pretty pointless. A small amount of effort can invalidate it, its purpose is pointless to begin with, and there's nothing stopping the team from just enabling the filter (again, not that it does much) if a member swears too much. If they keep up the overuse of profanities, just hit them with some warn points for inappropriate content and tell them to quit it.

I like the longer status sizes, but maybe 400 words instead of no limit?

 

Would have to ask Tormey about shrinking it, as I'm not too sure where the settings for that are (and I know he's been tinkering with it lately). So yes, it's an known issue right now. May be due to YCMaker's appearance, but we're still looking it over.

As for the swear filter, most of it contains the f-bomb and some of the casual swears (jabroni, sheet, jabroni [but not the word ass itself]). The n-word is there, but not kike. Supposedly this hasn't been updated for the past couple years. 

 

Another idea is trying to find a plugin for IP.Boards that can override group permissions in terms of avoiding the filter in certain areas (so for RP members, you can freely swear in there as pertinent to the IC thread). Right now, it's currently locked to individual groups and toggling this thing on and off.

 

Just for your information (everyone), we are talking about this in the mod area. I do think some of the stuff on that list can be removed as they are mild.

stauts update deleted again. COW are you behind this? this time? A few status updates deleted once again. So why are they so hell bent to silence me? What is it that will gain? Mods trying to hide what they did and covering their tracks. Mods explain your actions. Please screen shot this and store it somewhere, as they may try delete this as well. EDITED: I wish to no longer press on the subject.
