New Staff Member Election

BANZAI!!!!

Recommended Posts

As for what I was saying earlier, I think that nominations should be closed soon, and perhaps the threshold should be raised.

I'm sure this sounds selfish of me to say, given I am currently the front-runner, so no matter how high the threshold is, I will make the cut, but honestly the more people we have in the vote, the more convoluted the election itself becomes. Though some people are getting a nomination here or there still, there is a considerable margin between those who are well-supported, and those who just have a few people behind them.

I haven't looked at the totals since yesterday, but I think somewhere in the ballpark of 6-8 people is optimal for the vote itself.

This might be hard to believe, but I'd be saying this even if I only had one or two nominations to my name. I want nothing more than for this all to go smoothly, so that actual progress can be made in the team, and in its relations to the member base.

EDIT: for the record, I'm very appreciative of the support I've received. I'll have more to say on it all when the candidates are finalized, but put simply you guys are great.

I know we've had plenty of arguments over the past year or so, but I'm rooting for you in this, so you can add my support.

Unless another mod says otherwise I'm planning on closing the thread at midnight PST (7 hours from now).

As for moving the threshold that is also something I've given strong consideration to. To be blunt, I shouldn't have said anything before. Doing so just caused people to try and push nominations to the 3 mark, and when you have unlimited nominations its easy to do. If you want to be mad about the goal post being moved, thats on me. I'll look over the final totals and figure out based on that what the cut off will be.

Assuming everything's in line with how it looks in the OP, I'd say 5+ should be the cutoff. It's high enough to cut off the majority that didn't get as many nominations, but if you go any higher than that, the numbers instantly skip to the four people with 9+ nominations (myself, CowCow, Black, and Parenthesis). Granted, 5 or possibly even 4 only saves Fusion and Sleepy. Just an observation, since not many people got more than three nominations, and most of the ones that did are the four most popular picks in the thread. But again, it kinda assumes everything's still in line with how it is in the OP.

I just thought... I'd like to nominate Tormented. Not because I think he'd make a particularly good mod, but because giving him mod powers would allow him to tinker with the technical bits of the site, and his special connection with YCMaker might allow us to regain some control over this frankly quite dilapidated website.

I've been meaning to address this. Tormy claimed to have sent a number of reforms to the mod team (Night?) and was just ignored from what I understand. He

The trend seems recurring that a lot of well wishers like Birdo and Tormy were turned away. I can post screens if he'd be ok with it (As proof)

Who ever wins, I really hope you will be more willing to listen in the future

5 saves Hina given Snatch's vote

But there's a pretty big cliff between the tier 2 people 5-7 votes and the 4 leaders

It wasn't ignored to be fair.  It ended up getting stifled because whatever access we had to systems ended up being locked out by our fearless leader, YCMaker.  We simply couldn't act on Tormented's improvements, which sucks.  He put a lot of time and work into it and he clearly cares about the board.  So it's unfortunate that even happened.  Hell, I was the one who brought it to the team's attention.  Though, to get Tormented's work across would require he be an admin basically.

Back on topic, I'm going to echo Flame's words.  This was a decision that came about recently to close the nominations thread (this thread) closer to midnight tonight.  I'll let Flame handle it since he has decided on the time frame, but you guys should get all of your nominees out now.

I was only looking at the OP for the idea of where a cutoff would make sense. It's a couple days behind. Hina being an option also is nice. Bottom line though is the cutoff can't be above 5 unless we want a very small election.

To be fair, the count by Black is back at page 6 and only covered up to some point in page 7 last time I checked. Some more names could make the cut if it was 6+

I'll PM you, but it seemed like the situation was less ... amicable...than that towards the end

I said there was no point giving noms to people over threshold, but that was in regards to myself, Giga, Cow, and Yui receiving them. Because there were a funk ton.

Even then, I’m not officially part of the process. I’m a helper by choice.

There is also time left. If you really believe in someone with low noms, throw them a bone. You have 7 hours.

well lol partly by logic Dad. If 3 nominations gets you into the election, then giving someone a 4th nomination is basically just jumping the gun and trying to vote before it's voting time.

but in case people needed it pointing out someone (cba to find the exact post and poster) did actually mention it a few pages back.

EDIT: not complaining, just explaining why the nominations may appear to have bottlenecked around 3

If Sleepy is not over the cut, I'd throw my vote for her

I sorta misunderstood and figured that it was gonna be a run off between Cowcow, Giga, Black, and Yui and thus tuned out a bit

If there are any candidates who you want me to look at (just tell me which page they posted on), I'll look at them and probs vote

This.

If you want to vote for someone, no matter how few votes they have, give them an opportunity to prove themselves by nominating them.  Speak up.

I think at least for round 1, we do need to keep everybody nominated in the list.

This voting threshold was suggested within these latter pages, while earlier on in the thread it was just about showing submitting names.

For a proper threshold I think you'd be better off defining that this is happening from the get go. Otherwise many voters have come and gone already with potentially different mindsets between not wanting to name somebody they support that had already been named a couple times, and those that wanted to make sure a name appeared any number of times to help showcase how much more that member is wanted.

How many people are we going to be able to vote for in the election?

Right now we're trying to reach an agreement on how many of the current "most nominated members" we need to take to the next phase of polling before cutting off other "least nominated members".

I'd perma ban myself if that happened. Just kidding

How many votes are you at J-Max, I remember your modship with pretty fondly

I'd be happy to put you over

Since Dova took himself out for a general mod, I'd like to push three other  people who have been making reforms in their own sections (s)

Striker for CC and Clubs. I worry about having a mod who doesn't know how to fill gas, but we'll live

Darj for being a pretty talented TCG poster and overall nice guy who listens

I'm intrigued by Tensibility Black. The next round should have specific proposals from all the people who make the cut off so I'm willing to push her through to see what she might have to offer

Sadly I have to disagree. Because it causes the risk of people voting for someone who is far behind and their vote basically being wasted.

And the thing is, at least for me, I only nominated who I did because I felt they were the best fit. There are others (You and Fusion for instance) that I think could be good. But I didn't nominate because I wanted to only nominate the absolute top of my list. I didn't say it cause I don't want to skew things but since its brought up I find the "sure I'll nominate X to bump them over the threshold" to be an...odd choice to say the least.
