The Election Of A New Staff Member

Cow doesn't usually seem to take much seriously, and he can be too quick to write people off. He openly admitted to me when he wouldn't let something slide, and when I told him he really could have ignored it, he just continued to be hostile. Given how aggressive he can be, I was never comfortable with him becoming a mod, and I haven't seen anything from him that's given me much faith that he'll improve.

I'm really happy with Black. Talking with him has helped me feel so much better about a lot of things, and I liked how the YMB turned out. Overall, I see Black striving to create a community where happy can have fun and celebrate events, and I think he's living up to that.

As a person who has interactednwith him a ton, and seen him interact with other, and interacted with you a nonzero amount:

I think you have misinterpreted his behavior. His behavior is not what I would ever categorize as hostile. He is blunt, yes, but he isn't actively seeking out to make things difficult for anyone. Similarly, what I say next is equally lacking in the hostility department:

It is not yours to say when he should or should not let something slide. For him to decide not to let something slide, and maintain his position when you say he could have ignored it, is not a negative. Depending on the context, it could be indicative of a negative, as it is vaguely reminiscent of the "mods can make no mistakes" mentality, but I know that he is just as critical of himself as I am of Sakura. I see no risk in him becoming a tyrant, nor do I consider him harmful in any meaningful way.

No, I did not misinterpret his behavior. If he wants to continue an argument after a thread was locked, and then continued the fight once I made it clear I wanted no part in it, then I find it hard to believe that he wasn't actively seeking to make things difficult. He maintained his position precisely because I told him he was out of line, so his behavior was indeed reminiscent of that mentality you described. He relied on hyperbole and was rather overboard just dismissing ABC Gun as "objectively wrong". Being "blunt" is not an excuse to be rude and condescending just because you disagree with someone. That's just using "blunt" as a pretense for poor behavior.

Unless you are doing big backstage work, your performance of both, Black and Cow, is alright so far, IMO. There was the Member Brawl event, and addressing rules in Polls and the recently implemented Mention system, but those are things other Mods have done and do so it doesn't look too much out of the ordinary to me. In short, you are doing fine.

Make no mistake, mentions and the other cosmetic/functional changes to the site were the work of @@Tormented.

And from what I understand, they are doing more than is immediately visible. Not to say that doing things behind the scenes excuses a lack of anything else, but they are doing work on both sides.

I made no mistake. I was referring to them addressing the new system and possible rules, through this thread for example. I am well aware Tormented is the one responsible of these changes.

I will readily admit cow has done more behind the scenes work. He’s trying his best to do spring cleaning (early-ass overachiever smh), and I’m not as active in that regard. I’ve raised a few concerns and chipped in a bit, but Cow is almost the lifeblood of the mod forum atm. Almost.

Cow sucks. Black sucks. funk 'em. #Anarchy.

Demod all sucky mods.

If you've got a legitimate complaint about Cow or Black, make it known. Otherwise, we would appreciate you taking this type of post (assuming it's not serious) to Misc.

Cow is responsible (excluding Tormented's own hard work) for 90% of recent changes (updated rule threads (not including Broken's changes) unpinned older threads, the updated Mod Consent thread in Misc, and changes that will be made to FAQs). They were all his ideas.

I can tell you that was a joke.

The member in question posted some... questionable content. As such, they were punished for it. It wasn’t a hefty punishment, just a 24 hour ban. Cow wasn’t even the one who delivered it (junior mod), and I don’t think he was heavily involved.

I figure you’re joking, but better safe than sorry.

Since it was brought up I'd like to clarify the thing Roxas is referring to.

1. Net Neutrality thread existed

2. December 28th, before I became a mod, I disagreed with ABC Gun's portrayal of Republicans not liking Obama because he was Black

3. Roxas disagreed with my statement and said I was dismissing ABC Gun's post.

4. I come on hours later and see the thread locked

5. Message Roxas to clarify what I was saying and why I said it

6. Roxas responded saying "No you didn't have to keep going" and locked the message

7. I sent him a message saying I give up (I admit it was in a "funk it not gonna try anymore" tone)

What I said that was "dismissing ABC Gun" was that I disagreed specifically with his statement of

"You know why Ajit Pai did this right; Verizon paid for it and the Republicans just have to s*** on Obama's legacy because how dare a black man become President of the United States for 2 terms."

Because, and this is the exact quote

"Okay I wasn't gonna jump in this at all but this is just so disgustingly biased, generalizing, and untrue. Certainly there are some people who had issue with Obama because he was black but this is the worst argument to use and using it for anything you deem "against Obama" is terrible."

I later specified that what I was disagreeing with was the implication that "Republicans hate Obama because he's Black"

I didn't bring this up before because I understand why he has me blocked and I get that I was a bit overly hostile. But I don't think it fair to use it as a reason I'm not doing a good job, or unfit for this position, nor do I appreciate it being blown out of proportion.

Also please no one continue the debate that the statements above came from, that was a separate, locked, topic. This is a post to clarify the issues so that people can judge me accordingly.

Cow has responded within minutes of every query or problem I've had. People who were and are no fans of his even admit that he's done a stellar job. Had a good feeling that he would look after the community first if made a mod, and that came true.

Cow is a stunning example of how Democratically elected mods are how YCM will thrive

He's exceeded all my expectations, which leads to my only question. Why haven't him and Black been promoted yet?

because they (the team) are taking a proper look at their performance, rather than slapping on a "good enough!" sticker and calling it a day.

This is a good thing.

Yeh, I said that during Zai's trail that we should actually have the trial performance mean something. But outside of a rouge complaint about Cow before he was Mod, I'm not hearing what either should do more to clear the test

Since this is the closest to a criticism I should say a thing.

You're right in one sense. I won't be AS around once I start being able to work again. However when I was working I always went on YCM a few hours in a day every day so at worst people will have to wait for responses till later than I have been. But imma make sure to be open to messages about problems and also check the mod forum for discussions each day. Basically the same as I do now except I won't reply within the hour all the time.

No, that's not really what I mean.

If you burn out and continue working through that because you feel like it's your responsibility, you will snap like a twig. No question. It happens every time. Your high initial investment is likely to set a personal standard you will not be able to uphold even if you fully acknowledge that you won't be able to keep your activity up.

Take breaks when you need to, please.

Oh in that case, no worries. I used to think I couldn't stay invested in things until I started hosting RPs. Then I looked back and realized I'm hosting four RPs and one of them has gone on for over 2 years.

I will take breaks. I actually don't feel like I'm all that invested personally. I could probably be even MORE invested tbh. I feel one of my few strengths is being able to stick to things without breaking myself.

Thanks for the concern

I have an issue with Cow's personality that I wanted to address because his behavior (And that was only one example, and Cow did just say he was overly hostile) has been repeatedly concerning. Just because my concerns are less than generous does not make them any less legitimate, so I would appreciate if you would not be passive-aggressive and dismissive.

Do you view your concern as big enough to deny Cow a promotion?
