[CHQ] Guild Examination Quest

Having held his fire upon seeing that his barrage wasn't able to break through Neru's barrier, Vincent took a moment to catch his breath and gather more particles. During this time the druid and the strange animal girl from the other guild both managed to secure a hit, leaving them with one more to go.

With a grunt, Vincent separated his bow into two sabers of mana before dashing forward towards their target. As be passed Sen in his charge, the boy scoffed and beckoned him to follow.  "You're not done are you?! Com'on, let's hurry and finish this..."

Sen will coughed out a, "not even close." Gritting his teeth, the magic he had been gathering from Neru quickly moved across his body and coalesced onto his arms as he began to move alongside Vincent.

Seeing this, Vincent smirked before glancing down at the particles lingering by his own feet."I have wings ready, do you know how to use them?"

"What?" Sen looks at Vincent confused as they both continued forward. With them closing in rapidly, Vincent simply sighed. "Never mind. I'll just go high, you go low..."

Once they were in range, Vincent hastily veered to the right take a swing at Neru. At the same time, Sen suddenly shot forward with new speed, also taking a swing a the test proctor. Neru reacted just as swiftly Vincent had come to expect, and quickly leaped back to dodge Sen, whilst throwing up a barrier to block Vincent's slash.

"Hm," Having anticipated this, Vincent suddenly vanished in a blur of motion. Ridding a large current of magic particles, the boy repositioned himself in the air above Neru's flank with both hands held high as if he were going for another strike. Yet again, Neru raised a barrier to defend himself, and in response Vincent brought both feet up so that he was now standing on the magical construct. In the same instant, Sen dashed to the man's side whilst a large gout of flame, courtesy of Agina attacked from the front to create a three pronged assault.

Watching Neru erect two more barriers to counter the oncoming attacks, Vincent smirked and allowed his sabers to vanish. "And for my last trick..." Using the majority of his remaining energy supply, the boy formed an explosive arrow on his wrist and leaped over to the side that was left undefended.

Releasing the arrow at Neru right before he hit the ground, Vincent watched in shock as the man responded by quickly tossing his short sword towards the projectile, causing it to explode prematurely at the cost of sending the weapon flying a great distance away.

The backlash from using so much of his soul came instantly, causing Vincent to begin to wheeze and cough violently as he struggled to pick himself up off the ground. His complexion quickly became pale, and it was clear that he would be forced to leave the rest to the others...

Ro

mMh3ba1.png

”You’re not very smart, are you?”

Ro flinched, realizing his error a split second too late. Neru cleanly dodged the flammable fluid, leaving the Archaios straight in the path of the incoming pyro blast. Just as Ro pivoted on his foot, the exhaustion and drugging overdrive struck again. His foot twisted, sending a searing shock of pain through his ankle and leg. Falling to the ground, the boy raised his arms up in front of his head, wincing.

“Ah, I’ve really gone and funked up-”

Before he could do anything else, the sweltering heat swept over him… and left him entirely unscathed. Ro was in shock for a few seconds, looking up and patting himself down to make sure he was still alive. Around him was a large energy shield. The appearance was identical to the kind that Neru made previously.

“sheet, what an embarrassment. The proctor had to save me from my own dumb ass.”

With nothing else to add, Ro quickly retreated - or as fast as he could with his limp. From the sidelines, he watched a variety of attacks and demonstrations of strength as others added in their contributions to the fight. Between them all combined, Neru was down to the last hit. One more hit and victory would be theirs. Or at least, the part involving defeating Neru.

“Aaah-aah. I’m spent.”

Lying down on the floor in a far corner, Ro leaned his head over to watch the fight. He was completely exhausted at this point. Out of motivation and energy to fight, trying to add in to the fight would only cause more trouble at this point, both for himself and others. Ro also felt like the others wouldn’t appreciate any sort of drug-like steroid - not that he could probably even create a drop of any chemical at this point. He was done for now. Taking deep breaths, Ro flashed an unseen thumbs-up to everyone else.

“Woooh, go team~”

As the man threw the sword to deflect the explosion, he stilled seemed to be keeping his cool as his weapon was blown away. As he had three of his four sides covered, he looked over to his exposed side to see Mellow charging at him, ready to swing her fist at him. Extending out his arm, Neru managed to grab the girl's face, breaking her momentum before she was able to actually complete her attack and broke her momentum. Pulling her in closer, the man tripped the white haired girl as he did so before using the momentum of her fall to toss her to the side. Once he had done so, however, he saw Fen coming from behind Mellow, polearm in hand. Stabbing forward with it, the girl's ice magic caused the blade to extend further then normal, and with Neru as occupied as he was with everything else, was unable to stop it. With the ice slashing a cut across his cheek. The man sighed. "Four."

With that, the man stood more upright, causing the barrier that was holding Sen back to fade as he merely pushed the boy away with his now free hand. Clapping his hands together he said, "well, that's done with. Good job." He walked away from the group, causing Agina to stop her flame stream, and simply made his way towards the head of the room. Knocking on the wall, he said, "you can open it already." It didn't take long for a grinding noise to be heard throughout the room, as the stone wall slowly raised itself to reveal a small stair case that lead to the outside, sunlight now flooding into the room.

Walking down the stairs, the groups would see the red haired instructor, Evelyn. With a smile on her face, she clapped her hands together as she said, "well, congratulations everyone. I hope Neru here didn't rough you up too much." The man gave her a questioning look, before she continued. "But, since this door is open, that means you've all cleared the third trial. But," the grin on her face seemed to get larger though the tone of her voice seemed to take a darker tone as she said, "I hope you realize it wasn't the final one. Between your two groups, you both have two fragments of the dragon jewel, and you need all four to pass."

"Allow me to reiterate one last time. The rules for the exam are simple. Whenever a team brings all four shards of the dragon jewel out of this cave, they pass the exam. If a team surrenders, is incapacitated, or leaves this cave without the four shards of the dragon jewel, then they fail. So," she seemed to take a brighter expression as she said, "what will the eight of you do?"

And with that...it was over. Kasayee gave Fen an approving look, though it didn't seem much different from her usual expression, as the girl had managed to land the final hit.

Kasayee quickly examined the rest of her group. Both of the others seemed to be out of energy at the moment, having wasted so much of it on such a simple task, and she thought she remembered mention of having to fight the other group. If that ended up being the case they had already lost. With two of them down she wouldn't bother trying to fight. It was not worth it even after all this effort already used.

Thankfully, as the other that had been with Neru earlier came down, she realized it didn't have to come down to that. "So we can just go now?" Kasayee said. It sounded like that to her. She didn't see a reason why they wouldn't be able to. So, with a shrug, the girl started for the exit. She turned towards the other two groups and hesitated. "Come on, she said it's time to go."

Agina gave a look of realization as she clapped her hands together, the sudden loud noise causing Kasayee to twitch in reaction, as she spoke. "Wonderful idea lizard friend!" The rest of her guild, and Fen, would all give her a confused look as she began to march alongside of Kasayee towards the exit.

The druid shrugged. She wasn't sure what the hold up was with the rest.

Thankfully, the others working together managed to score the last hit on Neru. After progressing on through the cave, they were met by Evelynn, the other proctor. Reclining in the back lazily, Ro tuned an ear in as she described the final challenge. However, something seemed unusual in the way they described it. For a final challenge that involved needing all four pieces with each of the two teams only having two pieces, there was no mention of any combat. It wasn’t like the proctors to leave out any important info like that as well… The realization flashed into his head just as the lizard girl interrupted his thoughts with something about leaving. The pyromaniac girl agreed with her and began to leave for the exit. Whether intentional or lazy, the druid had reached the same conclusion, or probably at least.

“Hiya hiya, guildies.” Ro punctuated his words with a loud clap at the end. “If you remember what this proctor just told us, the only stipulation is winning involves leaving with all four shards, and losing involves leaving without all four. However, there was no mention that only one team could win, nor any mention of combat.

Therefore. We could just all leave together with the four pieces collectively. Problem solved.”

Tilting his head, he waited for the response from the others.

With the test over, and the others preparing to make their way the next area, Vincent found himself struggling to lift himself from the ground. "Com'on..." A streak of crimson was smudged across the corner of his mouth, moving up to his lower cheek as the young prodigy grit his teeth and tried to force his body to move. The others would still need him for the next part of the exam...

"Move..." He had pushed himself so far, knowing the risks. His body felt heavy, but regardless, Vincent was using everything he had to move. "We're so close..." He'd make sure the guild past this test, even if it killed him. "I have to get up..." Though it seemed that even his own stubbornness had limits, and it would take more time before he'd be able to function at full capacity again after putting such immense stress on his soul.

Nonetheless, Vincent continued struggle furiously, completely ignorant to what Ro and the others were saying.

As Agina and Kasayee had left the cavern and Ro spoke up about his theory, the others looked at and among each other, confused. Looking to the two proctors, Neru's face was as impassive as ever and Evelyn's slightly devilish smile did not seem to change in the slightest. Even still, it was clear that neither side was quite up to and, with Alpine saying, "alright Lemon Soul, let's move out."

Partially upset, yet entirely unsteady on his feet, Sen said, "wait what? Are you saying I can't fight that blond haired ba-"

"Come on, come on." Alpine moved to sling Sen's arm over his shoulder as he walked out with the man .

Seeing Vincent barely able to even stay conscious, Fen felt she was best off helping him up, though wasn't sure if she'd be able to do it herself. Looking to Mellow, who's eye and arm (and the growling noise for that matter,) had returned to normal, the girl asked, "um, could you uh, help me bring him out?" The girl looked to Vincent, and back to Fen before giving a simple nod. With the two of them taking either arm, they managed to lift the young Xel'Cie onto his feet and bring him out of the cavern.

Once both guilds had left the caverns behind them, walking past Evelyn as they did, the woman let out a sigh. Clapping her hands together, she turned to face the guild members with a much more genuine smile as she said, "congratulations to both Cherry Heart and Lemon Soul. You have both passed the exam!" Giving a small applause to them, she said, "come on, you should all feel excited for yourselves. You did it! Cheer with me Neru."

"Yay." The man seemed to be about as enthusiastic as ever as he gave them a single clap.

"And with that, you both qualified as a D-Rank Guild. Now, I hope you all take this exam as a learning experience and can reflect on it going forward. Isn't that right Neru?"

The man looked towards the group more directly saying, "puzzle solving, combat and cooperation are the three major parts of this exam. To be able to make it through an obstacle course of sorts, to be able to fight something of equal or greater power to you, and to be able to work with another guild in the face of a finite reward. These are things that you will be faced with constantly as you go on your more challenging quests and it's important you're able to deal with them."

"So there you have it! Now, you're all free to go. Best of luck and happy guilding."

[spoiler=OOC]

And you all did it. The quest is complete. You're all free to talk amongst yourselves, with the members of Lemon Soul or Neru and Evelyn. If you have nothing to say then simply go to the carriage that took you here and get ready to leave."

Talk talk talk. Kasayee continued on as her guild members seemed to be figuring out something or other. She just kept on going up and out of this place. Thankfully it seemed that everyone had followed her out because the woman sounded pleased as she congratulated both of the groups on an apparent job well done.

Though she didn't see it as such. She wasn't sure how any of them survived in life up to this point with how they acted. Not that it was any of her business.

Kasayee stared at Neru as he gave his single clap response. She felt a strange kinship with the man suddenly and even so much as gave him what could almost be described as a smile.

She even was spurred to look over at her guild members to make sure they were still standing. The archer one, who Kasayee had only just remembered she fought with in the previous quest, seemed to be quite injured. She walked over to him, looked him up and down, and then said. "If you fall I won't catch you...Don't fall." It was the closest she had come to concern and the words felt weird on her tongue.

She turned abruptly and headed for the other guild. To Mellow more specifically. "I want to meet your leader some time." She said. Evidently the guild's leader knew something of this girl's odd connection to a spirit. She would have to ask her if she were to get rid of this nagging curiosity that plagued her.

Mellow just stared at the girl, thought about it, and then just gave a thumbs up. Agina popped in and said, "don't worry! I'll be sure to put in a good word for you to our guild master."

"I don't need a good word. Just any word. Several actually. I just want to talk to her for a while." These humans sure had odd ways of saying things at times didn't they?

Vincent struggled regain his composure as the girls carried him towards the exit. Though his vision was still slightly spotty, it felt like his condition was slowly beginning to stabilize.

"Thanks..." He nodded to Fen and Mellow before resting his eyes for a bit. Moments later, after hearing the final words of praise from the two proctors, the boy looked up to see that the druid had managed to appear at his side without his dulled senses even registering her.

"If you fall I won't catch you...Don't fall." After studying him for a moment the girl spoke with what almost sounded like a fraction of concern before promptly turning and leaving.

"As if I'd ever..." Vincent mumbled whilst she was still in earshot. His gaze trailed behind her with it's usual sharpness before lightening ever so slightly. In that instant it struck him to him that he hadn't even bothered to learn the lizard girl's name...

"Hey," Turning to Fen, who still had his left armed wrapped around her tiny shoulders, Vincent sighed. This had been quite the day, and now all he could think about was the nap he would be taking on the ride home. "Do me one last solid and help me up into the ca-" As he spoke, Sen fell into his line of sight, causing the Vincent to suddenly surge upwards as best he could whilst using Fen for support.

"TURD-TOP!" The battered archer barked aggressively over to the other boy whilst bearing his fangs. "Where do you think you're going?! I'm not done with yo-"

SBLURRT

Without warning, a large stream of blood shot from Vincent's nose, causing the boy to suddenly stiffen up before finally collapsing clumsily on Fen's shoulder. "T-Think you can just run away..." He seemed to trail off for a brief moment, before suddenly snapping back to reality.  "without telling me what your deal is?! " Despite having clearly overexerted himself yet again, Vincent did his best to glare daggers at Sen with his remaining strength.

Ro

And with that, the exam was finished and the two guilds both successfully ranked up. The two proctors gave some various small talk of congratulations and advice for the future, none of which Ro really bothered listening to. Ro was still completely drained from the fight with Neru and felt just about dead, but there was something he wanted to do before leaving with the others. Heading over towards Neru, Ro gave a small wave.

“I… appreciate the shield earlier.”

Ro’s voice was quiet but clear and carefully enunciated. Being saved by a human from his own folly was a peculiar feeling, and not entirely a pleasant one. However, he felt it was fine to at least give those words in return for Neru’s assistance. He wouldn’t go so far as to bow to a human for this, but at least words of gratitude would mean something, probably. He waited for Neru’s response. Once this was resolved, Ro would head back to the carriage and sit on a side, closing his eyes and dozing off immediately.

"Then I'll be sure to put in any words to her!" Agina gave Kasayee a thumbs up, as Mellow simply looked between the two a bit confused.

As Ro came to give his thanks to Neru, the man looked at him with an unchanging expression as he simply said, "I have no idea what you're talking about. I was just trying to keep myself safe by boxing in the fire. Don't worry about it." This was met with a snort and chuckle from Evelyn, which caused Neru's expression to be irked.

Meanwhile, as Fen had helped carry Vincent out she was caught off guard as he shouted out to the boy, Sen. The other boy, who had been being escorted by Alpine, looked with an equally annoyed expression on his face. "What'd you say piss head?! I'll take you on any time you want, you hunter sheet." He removed himself from Alpine's assistance, stumbling forward and barely managing to stand on his own.

Meanwhile, Fen could feel Vincent getting heavier as he was being able to support himself less, running fully out of gas. “What does that make you then, dispshit? We’re from the same tribe!”

"Stupid! No, wait, you're the stupid one! I wouldn't be caught dead being from one of your shitty tribes. Besides, the hell are you doing with a guild?"

Vincent seemed confused. “Huh? That’s none of your business... Let’s just say I’m doing my own thing for now on, and leave it at that. More importantly... if you’re not with them, then how the hell are you able to use Mugen?!”

Sen will also seemed confused as he said, "wh-wha-" he shook his head before continuing, "that's none of your business either. Listen, I'm watching you...moron, and if you do anything to them I'll be on your ass faster than a bad rash!" He seemed confused by what he just said, but shook it off and gives Vincent a stink eye.

“Yea whatever.” Vincent will scoff then smirk before trying to turn towards the cart. “Worry about your own mages... because next to we meet, we’re settling this beef.” As they began to leave Vincent will call back. “Just make sure to stay alive till then, Turd-top. I’m the one that’s gonna finally kick in that ugly mug!”

"Yeah same to you piss-head!" Shaking his fist weakly at the archer, Sen merely said, "I'll make sure the next time we meet, I'll make sure to make that nose of yours bleed more than it is now." There was a slight pause before he said, "because I'll punch it a lot."

"There there, let's get going." With that, Alpine grabbed Sen and pulled him away back to their cart.

Mellow and Agina gave one final wave off to the group. "Goodbye and see you later Cherry Heart friends!" With that, they followed after the two males.

With their exchange done, and everyone else having wrapped up their own things, Fen said, "I guess we should get going too." Though, the other members of her group seemed to already be on top of that. Helping Vincent into their cart, the group was on their way to being back to their home at the guild hall.

[spoiler=OOC]
And with that, your quest is finished. Woo, yippee. You all did it and the guild is now a higher rank for it. You are also free to now post in the main thread as you so desire. So yeah, happy trails.
