[Mostly Serious] Black's Post-Election Address

Recommended Posts

Originally planned to post this sort of thing in either News or the Election thread if I won, but I decided to bring it here to Misc, instead. While I do want this to be treated with a bit of seriousness, I don't mind if people have a little fun here. In fact, I would encourage it.

Now, I want to start with thanking people again. It means a lot to me that people supported me in any capacity. Having backing from the community means the world to me, and I intend to do my best for all of you. I want to maintain being a member first and mod second, because I still feel that this is something that a good amount of the team lacks.

I want to keep you guys informed, and I want you to feel heard. I know how much it sucks to feel like you're yelling into the void and getting nothing done. But I also need you to understand that there are things I cannot share with you. Transparency is good, but absolute transparency defeats the point of having the mod forum or discussing in private. Some things need to be unknown, some sentiments unshared. If it is important and you guys need to know, I'll do my best to present it to you.

As for restructuring the team and possibly assigning specific roles to newer moderators, though I don't believe that's the immediate intent... I would like to do what I feel the most passionate about on the site; Coordinating events. Halloween, YCM Awards, even small contests. Which brings me to something I've been thinking about all day (other than the Podcast AMA), which is... Wanting to do events of some sort regularly.

Not all of them are going to be huge, but I want to aim to do them at least every other month, or help someone along with them. Halloween and the YCM Awards are big events, but little ones will be peppered here and there.

I would also be interested in helping make the YCM Roast next year, though I believe it needs some... strict rules. Easter is a similar case, but I'm not quite sure where to take it that doesn't involve being a simple egg hunt or rehash of another event. I also want to put the effort into holidays like Christmas or Valentine's day, to really spice up the entire year... And, unless I'm shut down, I will be posting a thread in the next few days aiming to discuss the various events on the site. Ideas for them, changes to be made, thoughts and concerns... The like. Not all events need to be big, Christmas could be as simple as a gift exchange or themed contest, for example.

Now, the host for the YCM Awards is already decided, and I believe I'm going to be the next Halloween host... But there's still much to discuss outside of that. But that means... What do I want to start out with?

Well, I already revived the YCM Awards... Why not revive another YCM tradition, albeit one a bit less dead? The Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Maker Member Brawl! Sometime tomorrow, a thread detailing the tournament will go up in polls. But there will be some extra incentive this time!

The winning member will receive 30,000 (or 50,000) points to incentivize the revival! On top of that, the second place member will receive 15,000 (or 25,000) points, and the third and fourth place members will receive 5,000 (or 10,000) a piece. Exact amounts not final.

Now, Moderators will be exempt from nomination, like the original YMB. They are a bit too noteworthy on the whole, and can sweep the competition by virtue of a position. Sorry CowCow, wrong place wrong time. Maybe post in the mod forum a few more times to rack up points, ye?

Let the struggle for the most powerful being in the multiverse begin!

... Tomorrow. The thread will go up tomorrow, barring any unforseen trouble.

If you have any questions or concerns, please direct them to here. I will answer them in a timely fashion.

I will say I like that you were okay with posting this in misc. I don't dislike this kind of attitude.

Also, is 30k points really worth anything? I'd have first place be 50k so the member can buy a perma group, which I feel is a pretty alright reward for whatever this is.

I actually wanted to say 50k, but there were a couple factors that made me change my mind.

The first is that, while I don't/have never really held points to the standard of being something to be rather revered, other mods have in the past and/or do.

The other is that if events are so common, we don't want to oversaturate points too quickly... Buuuuut I'd be willing to make an exception for this being the "icebreaker". So I'll consider it again.

The reason the Roast fell flat is that literally, everyone backed out.  I don't know why, and I honestly don't care, but everyone who was "interested" suddenly sent me pm's saying "oh I changed my mind".  So I'm not opposed to it, but it requires some actual commitment.  I hope you succeed.

yes that was me (And giga). Unless you mean literally everyone.

i unfortunately had a situation I had to handle at that time, and it funking sucked that I had to do that. I'm sorry, again.

Besides, I don't wanna do it by myself, if it happens. I just want to help out with it, I'd much rather you be at the helm of it.

If you don't mind, I'll force the Mods to fight in their own Brawl like the first one had. Anyway, my "office door" is always open if you want me in on things or whatnot.

I'd rather be left out.

I'd also leave cow out due to plain newness, but that's up to you and him.

Including you two, literally everyone.

seriously? no moderators can be in member contests anymore? there goes my dream of maturity and staff promotion.

Huh?

No, mods are only barred from this iteration of the YMB. Because I want this to be about the memberbase. Plus mods don’t need points.

Not really seeing anything indicating what you'd do as a mod. This mostly reads like an announcement of events, which has nothing to do with any mod duties.

Cow doesn't have anything either.  They don't even have sections yet.  Hakuna your tatas my jabroni.

I'm establishing my immediate ideas and goals. As I said in the election thread, I believe that talk is cheap. Even here, I'm merely putting forward the intent and some drawing board ideas. I like doing events, working to make the community a better place via people enjoying themselves. And I want to re-establish myself as the Party Mod, much like before... Or the moderator associated with events, as it were. Even before promotion, I was involved with the next YCM Awards and a pitch for Halloween, though it seems the host of the YCM Awards had not yet made their pitch... but that has been remedied! In fact, the YMB contains a sort of... hint.

And I want to make events like the Awards or the YMB official. Maybe not both, but having official celebrations of the community... It would hopefully beget a better community. Coming together to celebrate those who are perceived as extraordinary or personable, and to encourage people to work on their abilities and place in the community. Of course, this comes with downsides of people feeling forgotten or neglected... But I don't want that to be the intent. I want to work towards making events that enrich the community. Maybe we could even have themed years if we can make my idea for official event schedules work out. This is carving out my 'station', or what I would love to work on.

My only mission statement as a general mod is to bridge the gap between members and moderators. The situation is tense, and I want to work towards smoothing it over... but I cannot promise you success, only my best effort. And I will not promise sweeping changes. Even if I wanted to, I can't exactly do much by myself. Only the changes moving forward will make or break those efforts, and I'm only a single person. But I will do my best to work similarly to Dad in keeping members informed and engaged, so that the lanes of communication can be fully established.

Sorry. Just kind of expected something different.

This thread is just my attempt to allow people to react to my current list of ideas, which is all the more reason I wanted it to go into Misc.

You're good. No harm, no foul.

Bro I ain't mad, I'm just giving you advance notice.  Don't take it personally.

We've been going at it a lot lately, so I'm a little on edge around you.

Party Mod sounds like a great way to put it, even if as an unofficial title. I like that.
