Polyp, the Draugr Guardian

Hey all, been a looooong time since I posted here. Recently got back into the game and while looking through old bookmarks I found this site. Decided, what the hell, I'll make something. I feel like trying to be creative lol.

So this card is essentially made for defense as it almost guarantees you'll have something blocking you during your opponent's turn. What do you guys think? Overpowered, underpowered, not worded right and/or confusing? Would you run it if your deck was more defensive?

Also, the art I used is obviously not YuGiOh style, I was wondering if you guys know of any artists or sites where one can find art more similar to Yugioh's?

Polyp, The Draugr Guardian

Level 4
Dark
Zombie / Effect
ATK/ 0 DEF/ 1800

During your opponent's Standby Phase, if this card is in your Graveyard and you control no monsters, you can Special Summon this card. Destroy this card during your opponent's End Phase.

It´s interesting how this Card interacts with other cards. You can just special summon it while it´s in your graveyard (You can easy bring it to your GY with "Foolish Burial or other cards) and you even have a Normal Summon so you just can normal summon a tuner or another Level 4 Monster and then you have a synchromonster or a XYZ-Monster.

But I think you should add: "If this Card leaves the field, banish this Card.", otherwhise you can do this every turn and that´s a bit OP imo, or you add "Pay 1000 Life Points".

I really like the art, because Í like Zombies.

So I hope you add one of my suggestions :)

I actually like this card. Although it has some potential for abuse, I think it's not all that bad. You only really get him by his own effect during the opponent's turn, and he pops himself as well, so unless you're using him as a tribute for trap cards, he really doesn't have too many uses. I might actually use the guy were he a fiend, for full force virus alongside DW. I dunno.

That being said, he'd be excellent within an archetype that lets you summon monsters during the opponent's turn, or alongside cards like formula synchron.

Now, I'm sure something that abuses this exists somewhere, but I can't think of one, so I'll think of this card in a vacuum.

I don't think this is particularly OP, I'm leaning more towards UP. I wouldn't say it's terrible, but the uses are really niche, and it's really easy to remove from the field, if you're just using it as a wall. Just look at dark worlds, they can constantly make 3 3k beaters with no effort, but they play almost exclusively offensively. Just a reviving wall isn't particularly good. That said, I think this may have seen use during GX and early 5ds and been completely broken during DM, but I can't really give it much more credit than that.

Well, the aim of this card is to be used in defensive decks, ensuring that you always have something when it's your opponent's turn. Something that comes back consistently can put pressure on the opponent as they know they will have to deal with at least it every turn. With it's moderately high defense for a 4 star, most low powered monsters won't be able to clear the way, thus absorbing larger monsters attacks. Many decks these days have plenty of ways to remove cards from play, so he's not necessarily invincible by any means. I play several defensive decks, and while defensive traps and spells are abundant, reliable monster defense is not so much. I run a Treeborn Frog in my defensive decks as well as attacking decks with lots of tribute monsters. Many times I've had my entire field and hand wiped by nuke effects, but because I had Treeborn Frog, I was not a sitting duck my next turn, this card is my aim to centralize around that concept.

I agree with Zepheris: not overpowered and I'm not sure if it would see much play beyond the casual environment. As pointed out, there are ways to get rid of it, such as banishing it, and a mere 1800-DEF wall during the opponent's turn isn't that impressive nowadays. If you were to keep it until your next turn then I wouldn't be too sure about it, but it doesn't so it's fine. Although, I would give it a hard OPT clause because of you get multiple copies of these, not too difficult to do with the Zombie support, you would be reviving all of them during each of your opponent's turn. Blocking 1 attack is fine, but 2+ can get annoying.
