ITT: Links Change a little.

Recommended Posts

ITT:
Link Monsters cannot be Link Summoned to a Zone pointed to by another Link, unless it would cause them to be co-Linked.

(but you can Summon Fusions, Synchros, Xyzs, Pendulums, w/e to those arrows).

The more time passes, the more this sort of change might become irrelevant looking at how some decks even strive to Extra Link with their theme.

It also comes with the issue that usually it is the generic ones that are Link 2 monsters with both arrows pointing diagonally down, which have nothing to be Linked to now unless you run different mechanics like Fusions or Synchros. This could mean this hypothetical change might end up hurting generic deck-building more than anything else (which would be bad).

Regardless, I think some sort of edit would need to be made by the time a next generation Extra Deck mechanic is introduced in 2 or 3 more years. That is, unless a future mechanic also were to function with arrows, which is unlikely since Yugioh is not prone to stripping mechanics of their defining features (like Ranks and attachments not being used anywhere outside Xyz).

This is not about nerfing Links as a concept by itself, but about what would allow a future mechanic to shine once Links run its course.

If it were to be applied, how much of an impact do you think it'd have or how do you think the game's landscape would shift?

So it basically adds a step in Link laddering by disabling players from following up with another Link(s) after Summoning a Link with SW and SE markers, but then they can just start with a Link with a S marker, follow up with one with a N and a W and/or E marker and proceed as usual. Pretty sure spammy decks would find a way to do so, while decks that aren't as spammy would simply be left behind. I doubt decks more focused on non-Link Extra Deck monsters would take any kind of lead.
