Windwitch - Violet Bell

Level 2

Wind

Spellcaster-Type/Effect

ATK 400 / DEF 400

If you control a WIND monster: You can Special Summon this card from your hand, also you cannot Special Summon monsters for the rest of this turn, except WIND monsters. If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can add 1 "Polymerization" from your Deck or Graveyard to your hand. If this card is sent to the Graveyard as a Fusion Material for a Fusion Summon: You can target 1 "Windwitch" monster in your Graveyard, except "Windwitch - Violet Bell"; add that target to your hand, and if you do, inflict 500 damage to your opponent. You can only use each effect of "Windwitch - Violet Bell" once per turn.

So I've recently been playing Windwitches on YgoPro (Legacy Format), and I keep thinking it's a shame that they only have three main deck monsters... I figured they could use some more support in order to open up the possibility of Fusion plays for Windwitch - Crystal Bell (which can be surprisingly useful in certain scenarios) in addition to recycling any other Windwitch from the Graveyard, as needed. Windwitch - Violet Bell is meant to function in a similar capacity to Lunalight Black Sheep/Elemental Hero Blazeman, with an added spicy effect of dealing 500 damage to the opponent in order to keep with the archetype's effect damage theme. Let me know your thoughts!

I don't think this is the way to go for making the Windwitch Fusion more accessible. As you pointed out, the discard effect is the same as Sheep's, but Sheep has the boon of being searchable by Tenki and the currently banned Broadbull. The 500 LP burn isn't really impressive. If it floated into some other card, Shaddoll-style, then it could be appealing. Even then, Summoning the Windwitch Fusion through Poly wouldn't be as advantageous, either.

Instead, IMO this should be able to grab Miracle Synchro Fusion, which can Summon the Fusion as a +0 once you get the Windwitch Synchro in the GY, something they easily do through their Ice Bell play. Plus it could become an funny tech in other decks that can play Miracle Synchro Fusion.

I see your point about it not really floating into other combos, but I'm not sure that having it search out Miracle Synchro Fusion would make sense thematically (if I recall correctly, only a handful of cards can search it out, and that's only because it has the word "Fusion" in its name). I'm also not a massive fan of Miracle Synchro Fusion (although I do run one copy!) because it requires you to banish Winter Bell from the Graveyard, making you lose the only decent target for Crystal Bell's copy/burn effect. Don't forget though, Windwitch - Violet Bell is searchable through the effect of Glass Bell, which can still be useful when you open up a Winter Bell in hand, or have an extra Glass Bell to spare after pulling out Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon. The 500 LP burn isn't useful... in the same way that Ice Bell's 500 burn isn't useful. It's not meant to be the main selling point of the card, but rather an extra touch that helps out. Like I said, I've been playing Windwitches on YgoPro for a bit now, and believe it or not, those 500 can and do win games. If not 500, how much damage would you have it do? 1000 would be a bit much, I think...

Well, Ice Bell burns for 500 but also Summons a Windwitch. I would keep the burn for the flavor, but also make it add a Windwitch from Deck and/or GY to the hand, or perhaps a "Polymerization" or "Fusion" Spell Card, something to offset the "cost" of using it as material for a Fusion Summon.

Hm. What about something along the lines of:

If you control another face-up “Windwitch” monster: You can Special Summon this card from your hand. When this card is Normal Summoned or Special Summoned: You can add 1 “Polymerization” from your Deck or Graveyard to your hand, also you cannot Special Summon monsters for the rest of the turn, except WIND monsters. If this card is sent to the Graveyard as a Fusion Material for a Fusion Summon: You can target 1 “Windwitch” monster in your Graveyard, except “Windwitch - Violet Bell”; add that target to your hand, and if you do, you can inflict 500 damage to your opponent. You can only use each effect of “Windwitch - Violet Bell” once per turn.

Would that be any better?

Looks better than what you originally had, IMO, plus it makes ti a bit more original than a Sheep lookalike. Still not fully convinced of focusing on Summoning the Windwitch Fusion trough good old Poly when Miracle Synchro Fusion, and also the upcoming Magicalize Fusion, can do the job with less risks, but at least now the float effects pays you back a bit for the investment.

I didn't know about Magicalize Fusion - I just looked it up and it looks pretty awesome, I'll definitely be running that one soon (although, perhaps, it won't be released for Legacy Format? I'm still not quite sure how this whole split format things works)... As for summoning Crystal Bell using Polymerization, I think there's something to be said for Fusion Parasite which can be used as a substitute for Windwitch - Winter Bell, speeding up the process immensely. Again, the idea is really to capitalize on any extra Windwitches that are clogging your hand/field and otherwise not doing much. In case you're running the Aleister/Invoked engine which so many Windwitch Decks do, you can even use the Polymerization you pulled to fuse Aleister with Violet Bell for Raidjin, then banish Aleister from your grave using Invocation for a second Invoked (either another Raidjin in the worst case scenario, or perhaps Mechaba depending on what the enemy is running).

It's also probably worth mentioning that I'm planning on creating more Windwitch Fusion Monsters that will most likely require just 2 non-specific Windwitches (I really would prefer to see them take a more Fusion-centric approach in the future, as we've already got 2 Tuners and 1 Synchro as opposed to the 1 Fusion). However, I'm kind of neurotic when it comes to finding artwork that matches thematically, and that's a bit harder for those. In the meantime, I figured I would post Violet Bell as a single and see what kind of feedback I got. Thanks for your help though, I will be editing Violet Bell's effect and artwork shortly!

EDIT: Updated! More comments, please!
