Banish Psychics in Link Format?

Hello, fine peoples!

So I was fooling around with deck ideas the other day and just looking up stuff and I remembered the ol' Banish Psychic cards.  Three of the prime ones being Silent Psychic Wizard, Hushed Psychic Cleric, and Esper Girl.

What I found notable is that all of the above trigger on being sent from field to grave and give advantage in ways that often enable you to continue climbing.  In yesteryear this was Synchros, but now I guess you could translate it into Links.

Now, although I know a little about the Banish Psychic deck, I don't know how viable it was (if ever), nor do I actively know its weaknesses (the main one I see being that it seems to require a bit of setup before things begin rolling).  Anyone have any insight in how these used to work and the possibility of using them in tandem with Links?  What, in your opinion, would Banish Psychic need to become viable/regain viability?

Esper Girl sadly doesn't work with Synchros or Links, as it is a "When this card is sent from the field to the GY" instead of "If".

They'd need a fast way of getting Psychic monsters in the GY, and getting them out. The effects are there, but they don't really have quite the speed necessary. We need more Emergency Teleports I would never say that or think it. The danger is the Type has really been expanded on in recent times, even with Kozmo and such, so it's hard for generic Type support.

Esper Girl does work with Synchros and Links. Her effects are mandatory. She would miss timing if her effect included "you can", but it does not.

You may be onto something, actually. Even Psychic Witch works on any kind of destruction so you should be able to splash in some "destruction engines" like Metalfoes, Zoodiac Barrage, Dragonic Diagram, etc. to trigger it and start some plays. And Esper Girl as a Level2 Tuner translates to Needlefiber plays.

AFAIK they did have some metagame relevance at some point with a variant running Grandsoil, but I don't know if such variant would hold nowadays because if you are play Grandsoil you may as well play Elementsabers instead. If you could somehow "enginize" Elementsabers or these ones, however, then something could work out.

Something that ties them together is their EARTH/Psychic type so I guess if Konami ever decides to give them some support, support for EARTH/Psychics, which would also include other toys like Psychic Commander and Jumper, is the way to go.

  • 2 weeks later...

I play 3 Silent Psychic Wizard, 1 Hushed Psychic Cleric, 2 Serene Psychic Witch (was playing 3 but I removed 1 for a monster reborn) and 1 Esper Girl in my Psychic Synchro deck. The deck mainly focuses on Overdrive Teleporter with a Super Quantum engine but these cards are an important part of it.

Witch is admittedly somewhat slow but it still works, usually summoning Blue Layer of Esper Girl for card advantage.

Cleric is a very good combo extender/recovery that can be searched by Overdirve Teleporter and Emergency Teleport, but not something I usually want to draw.

Wizard is an awesome Normal Summon if I have a Witch or Esper Girl or a big Synchro like Hyper Psychic Blaster in my Graveyard.

I can't say how well they'd perform as a Link engine, as I don't use Link Monsters, but for Synchros they are in-tune. I played the deck last week at locals and managed to beat Cubics 2-0. The Psyframelords are your friends when it comes to getting around the Extra Monster Zone. Along with Cleric/Wizard.

As for what support Psychics should get? Well, it'd be cool to see some Psychics that had ways to banish themselves from the Hand/Field/Graveyard. That would make cards like Psychic Feel Zone easier to use. What I'd really love to see would be them going to 5D's in the Legendary Duelists packs and for Sayer getting 4 new cards. A new Spell/Trap, non-Tuner, Tuner and a Synchro.
