+ Animation/Graphic Novels Rulebook +

Recommended Posts

[uPDATED: 2/23/2018]

1. Regular site rules apply.

Self-explanatory.

Anything written in the general rules also apply here.

2. Section is for discussing things pertaining to any form of animation, graphic novels and comic strips; regardless of origin.

Although this section has been revamped since last February, most of the discussion has generally been anime/manga as a carryover from its original state.

You are not restricted from posting solely anime/manga stuff; if it's an animated feature or in a comic format for reading, then it is permissible to post in this section. This may also include cartoons/comics that are exclusive to your country of residence and you feel are worth discussing.

General movies and printed books should be taken to Film & Literature. Soundtrack discussions from the series should be taken to the Music section.

Stuff you can do in this section (non-exhaustive)

[spoiler=]

A. Talk about series in general (see discussion threads for several franchises).

If there isn't one or last discussion was a good while ago, then you can make it yourself. If the series in question is old/obscure, you must provide background information on it to aid discussion.

Check the first page to see if there isn't already a current discussion topic on a particular franchise.

B. Character polls and discussion (includes Best Anime Girl, etc)

Basically, one-off character polls*, singular type discussion about a particular character of interest or general tropes and cliches that exist.

Contests like the SACT in tournament format must go into Polls.

C. Discussion about writers and artists responsible for these series, and social reactions to them in light of recent events.

These generally involve opinions about the writers/producers/companies responsible for the series, and how they are doing in terms of production/writing.

You can also talk about series that have come under controversy and such been pulled / postponed / etc. because of societal reasons (i.e. attempts at diversity backfired).

Do not turn these discussions into Debates.

D. Hypothetical thoughts about a series or unanswered questions after they have ended.

  • What could've happened next if series had progressed/ended before/after a certain point?
  • Whatever happened to [x]?
  • If this guy were the main character instead, would the series have turned out any different?

The above are not your only options in discussing hypotheticals, and you are free to find another point for discussion here.

These may be their own topics and do not need to be combined with the general discussion thread for that series, especially if it has been dead for a while or locked after conclusion.

3. Linking or directing to illegal streaming sites for media is strictly prohibited.

If you find the latest chapter or episode of a particular series, DO NOT link to nor mention the site by name in the thread, unless it is a legal hosting site like Crunchyroll, Hulu, Funimation, etc. This ties into the general rule about illegal content.

Posting a link to an illegal site will result in WP being issued.

4. Any general series thoughts should be directed to the main thread for it.

If the series is still active (i.e. Pokémon Sun & Moon, Yugioh VRAINS), then take any discussion about it to the official thread for it. Do not make a new topic unless it's been around 4-6 months after the last post.

If thread is past this time period, you can remake it, but it shouldn't be an issue most of the time. Exceptions to this shall be dealt with on a case-by-case basis (i.e. if series has been out of production for a while, but has since returned to airing).

If a series has the same characters in every arc [more/less], then just keep all of the discussion in one thread. An example would be the One Piece thread.

Spinoff series like Pokémon S/M, VRAINS, Dragon Ball and so forth (which have different protagonists/cast) can have their own threads for each generation.

5. Spoilering

This isn't so much a rule, but more as suggested guidelines. Won't be punished too much.

Upcoming episodes

While this won't be heavily punished (and more on you guys to be mindful), if information on a new chapter/episode of a series comes out, please try to post them in spoiler tags, or write minimal information as possible. Episode name and airing date are usually sufficient enough, as are poster reveals.

Recent chapter/episode releases

For the most part, keep any of your thoughts pertaining to fresh chapters/episodes in spoilers for around 1-2 days after the airing date so everyone can get around to viewing it themselves without being spoiled.

Going back to rule 3, if you've seen/read the new content, don't mention WHERE you found it.

6. Civility clause

It's fine to have differing opinions on a series or an episode/character and so forth, but it isn't okay for you to attack another user for their opinions.

Respect other user's opinions and keep the discussions civil; else, you will be penalized.

7. Bumping clause

If a series has gotten a recent update, a period of up to 6 months from the last post date will be permitted for bumping the discussion thread without penalty. Otherwise, if it's a really old thread, then you should remake it.

Please don't bump these unless absolutely necessary.

8. Posting quality

Please try to maintain quality discussions in the sections by keeping off-topic discussions and shortposting (including reaction images) to a minimum. As long as your post pertains to the discussion and provides a textual response of reasonable length, you should be fine.

Spamming will be penalized as appropriate.

Any punishments you get will consist of either warning points, a verbal reminder in the thread/PM and/or both. Warn points will generally expire in a week, unless otherwise stated in the PM for more severe offenses.

Ultimately, the rules have not been dramatically altered from the original version by Yin/Roxas; aside from fleshing out a few things and updating it to reflect the current state of the area. (Most of the core stuff is still here)

Please ask if there are any questions/concerns regarding the above rules.
