How can anyone own a switch and not know that there are miis on it?

How can anyone who doesn’t own a switch make that assumption?

I own a Switch. I didn't realize the Mii's were still around. If it isn't obvious they still are, and it isn't, then it is safe to say they likely won't come back.

I've only thought that because people are constantly talking about Miis being gone, and I had no reason to disbelieve it.

As for why I dislike Duck Hunt, the character has a huge skill curve, so when playing against one online you run into one of two people- someone who cannot handle the character, and is no trouble whatsoever, and people who are masters of the character and its flat-out annoying fighting style, who sits on defense the entire time, never doing anything interesting. And, knowing how the character plays, I don't care to put forth the effort to play the character "ideally"- that's just not my thing. It's just absurd how dull it is.

Against Bayonetta and Cloud, you have that definite feeling of being an underdog, so you can put the burden of winning on your opponent and do funny things. If you lose, no real harm done, you were most trying silly things. If you win, you just humiliated an opponent who went for an inherently superior character. Also, playing as Cloud at least can be very fun (I never put down the cash for Bayo).

I've never had any problem with Rosalina, Mario, the FE cast, or the Links, so I don't know what you're talking about. Also, somehow I've never met a Ryu.

I actually like how this mini-conversation developed from a joke.

I doubt the Miis will come back. It's not that the Switch lacks the Miis, so much as they've been heavily downplayed, especially since the end of service for Miiverse and Miitomo, so Nintendo might be trying to slowly phase them out. And as opponents, we've had the different "Fighting Teams", so I think it's easy to replace the Fighting Mii Team with something else, and then have a single member of that be the replacement for the Mii character.

Are we picking characters we'd like to see in the game?

Cause, okay, hear me out.

The Dragonborn.

Not a Nintendo property, but now on a Nintendo platform. Could be around Ganandorf in terms of build, maybe some slower Link-like smash attacks, with shouting Special Moves not unlike Robin's magic.

I'd rather ArcSys/Bandai work with Nintendo and use the Fighterz Switch release they know the fans wanted as a reason for Goku, since the Switch version would be released in a similar timeframe, but it's a pipe dream.

I played the previous games mostly with friends and familly. No one of us was really performing any high level plays, so I don't really have anything against most of them from a balance standpoint. There are however some characters that I'd rather not see returning, or want to get reworked should they return.

Like Draconus I'm not really a fan of Duck hunt duo, but in my case it has mostly to do with the visuals of their attacks; those look quite out of place if you ask me. I get that it is a nod to the game where the duo originates from, but still…

Lucina and Marth could share a slot due to their similar playstyle (and appearance), as has already been discussed.

I'd assume they'd give him the W, unless they used his own logo just for the hell of it. Sure, he hasn't actually been in any Wario games, his only appearances being in the Mario sports/racing games, but he's paired/associated with Wario so much in those games.

Also I'd be more than willing to bet an ARMS character getting in even if it's just for publicity. It's sold pretty well already but having a Smash rep could potentially bring in even more.

Hey so maybe I’m biased but I think Shovel Knight and some of the other knights (notably Plague Knight and Specter Knight) would be a fantastic fit for this game

Shovel Knight himself has an amiibo already so Nintendo is very aware that he has a following. The inklings also has amiibo, I believe, so although it’s not overwhelming evidence, it’s a motive. Also, Shovel Knight’s downward aerial in his game acts as his safest attack option, which, if converted to his dair, could end up very safe on shield from bouncing him up high. Shovel Knight also has a massive kit in the form of all his trinkets (it’s almost like yacht club wanted him to be in a smash game).

Plague Knight and Specter Knight are sort of wishful thinking because until King Knight gets released in Treasure Trove they’re my favorites (tbh shovel’s campaign was a chore to get through because no mobility). These two also seem to have pretty decent options for their kits, and even though I highly doubt Nintendo would care enough to implement 3 characters from an indie game, they all fit the mold perfectly.

If they do get in, Shovel Knight and Specter Knight would influence the meta with safe aerials on shield, and Plague Knight would contribtebto the number of ranged attackers with his bombs.

But yeah wow please buy treasure trove and skip shovel of hope, the other two campaigns are amazing

I would think Shovel Knight is a strong contender for being added as a new fighter. Been meaning to play the game too.

Since the Switch has higher specs, we should be able to see Ice Climbers come back and possibly enable skins like Sakurai originally wanted for Doctor Mario, Lucina and Dark Pit. I'd be fine if those 3 stayed as characters, but I would hope this opens up more possibilities for other skins.

You know, although everyone is thinking about who they want in the next game, what about who we don't want to see get cut?

Ever since melee, there has pretty much universally been at least one cut per game. We haven't yet seen Pichu again, even though all the other Melee veterans have been added to Smash 4. Snake, Wolf, and Pokemon Trainer have been desired by some, but I have doubts that they will come back.

But what if some of the other characters, like Wii Fit Trainer, Duck Hunt, Bowser Jr., Olimar, or Lucas get cut? Even worse, what if all of the DLC Characters get left behind? If Snake can't make it into the next games because of mature themes, is Bayonetta on the chopping block? And what if Nintendo is so concerned about churning out new content that they don't implement some of the less popular favorites?

Obviously, everyone would be happy if all of the characters made it in, knowing that no one is alienated because their main got cut, but Nintendo isn't in the business of making everyone happy. Even though I'd laugh if Falco, Zelda, Corrin, Captain Falcon, or Link got cut, most of those are sort of guaranteed.

I dunno, I just would honestly prefer maintaining some continuity to leaving behind characters for the sake of new toy syndrome.

I've been talking about this for a bit. Fighting games have an upper limit, and 4 with 58 characters is one of the largest rosters in any fighting game.

The characters I'd soonest expect cut are

Miis: The Switch has them, but they are buried. I didn't even know they were there until someone said they were. I think they are 100% gone.

3rd Part Characters: Pacman is gone if Namco isn't involved imo. I'd say Cloud and Ryu are more likely to be cut than come back.

Clones: Lucina, Dr. Mario, Dark Pit, and Toon Link are not safe. I'd say the odds of them being cut goes in that order. The order also reflects odds of being an Alt Costume.

Wii Fit Trainer: A pretty easy cut imo.

Retro: Duck Hunt, R.O.B., and Game&Watch are all characters I can see going.

So, all told that is Miis x3, Pacman, Cloud, Ryu, Lucina, Dr. Mario, Dark Pit, Toon Link, Wii Fit Trainer, Duck Hunt, R.O.B., and Game&Watch for 14 characters I think are more likely to leave than stay.

If any more characters are cut, they'd all be characters I could totally see staying in, but I wouldn't be shocked if they were cut. Those are; Roy, Bayonetta, Lucas, Corrin, Robin, Mewtwo, Palutaina, and Shulk.

The remaining 36 characters are all pretty safe imo.

For the record, while I wish Lucina was a Marth skin, assume she isn't cut.

Sakurai absolutely loves Fire Emblem, and the current team is absolutely adamant about Lucina being a flagship character, to the point of strongarming her into Fire Emblem Warriors.

I did not realize that. That would certainly improve her odds of staying around.

I imagine Lucina will still be in this one because she's both extremely popular (2nd out of the females in FEH's first Choose Your Legend poll, beaten only by Lyn), and it would be very easy to keep her. Lucina was originally a Marth alternate to begin with, but they gave her different mechanics later. Of course by that point all the modeling, animations, voice work, etc. was pretty much done so it was just a matter of changing around things like stats, damage, hitboxes, etc. making the amount of work put into Lucina as her own character actually pretty small in comparison to a normal, from scratch character.

And I didn't play it, but was Lucina really "strongarmed" into Warriors? The game was mostly focused on Shadow Dragon, Awakening, and Fates, so I don't think they had to try too hard to have Lucina be in it.

Developers confirmed that she was not supposed to be in FEW, but IS forced them to include her.

Most of the decisions associated with Warriors are, by admission via interviews, the work of Koei Tecmo, but IS was the one solely responsible for Lucina being in the game.

Well I can see why they'd want her in, she's hugely popular as a character but not only that, unlike most of the Awakening cast she's relevant to the plot, being the tritagonist to Robin and Chrom. I find it odd that she wasn't set to be in it to begin with.

With regards to Shulk, I can possibly see them replace him with the main protag of XC2 if he doesn't remain.
