[spoiler=DLC 1]
Man, Joker's gonna be so funking stylish. His running and jumping will probably have all the particle effects and stuff like in P5, maybe even his dodges will be similar to when he ducks into cover. And if/when they have songs like Last Surprise, Life Will Change, and Rivers in the Desert I don't think I'll ever switch off of whatever stage he gets (which there are so many options I have no idea what his stage would even be). Even the reveal trailer itself was funking clean (I even saved some gifs from it: https://i.imgur.com/7Q94EeU.gifv https://i.imgur.com/2QHcsDh.gifv). I believe it was said that Smash Ultimate's menus were party inspired by P5, too.

One thing I'm definitely getting used to is finally playing without tap jump. Been using it since Smash 64 and have finally made the decision to switch off of it. I've also been using just the Wii Remote + Nunchuk since Brawl came out so I'm getting used to the Joy-Con controller atm as well. I'm still going through WoL and unlocking characters and stuff, a bit over 3 hours in and so far I'm at 27 (not including Mii Fighters since you can just unlock them instantly by making them from the menu). Including my faves Ike and Bowser, as well as King K. Rool who I've been looking forwards to. Still need to get Ganondorf and Isabelle.

As I said above, give it like a week before you start talking openly about the DLC 1 character.

Anyway, found a list for character unlocks. If you want to be surprised going to leave it in a spoiler.

[spoiler=Unlocks]

[spoiler=Vs.]

IvPcOgp.jpg

Based on what he said, this is based on distance. So just run around for like 30 minutes and characters will start flowing. You'll normally have a 10 minute cool down, but if you quit out of the game after the unlock and go back in you skip it.

[spoiler=Classic]

1Wc5oDR.jpg

Apparently any character to the left unlocks the character to the right. So Kirby can unlock Ness, and then the two of them can unlock the characters to the right of Ness. Etc, etc.

So, with Joker and the Sealed Invitation's return, on top of other info we had, it definitely appears that all 5 DLC are guest characters, which shakes up predictions a lot.

After giving it a lot of thought, I have a general 4 I think are likely, with some slight reasonings. Not a wishlist, but what feels... reasonable, I guess, but this is a weird timeline.

[spoiler=Guesses]

  • Heihachi
    This one seems realistic, honestly. He's a guest, Sakurai wants him, he's Bandai Namco's second rep... Just seems to fall in place.
  • Banjo-Kazooie
    With the reveal of Joker, I think their chances have grown.

    Between Phil Spencer and Rare's support for the duo in smash, the "Everyone is Here" that seems more relevant than ever, and the fact that Sony now has a rep in Joker... I think this one is more likely than ever.

    The half-finished Rare Spirits don't hurt them, either.

  • Sora
    Let's be honest, he is probably the most hype inducing character outside of Goku, who Sakurai debunked. With KH3 releasing, the fact Squenix supposedly has another rep in the works, and the nature of Ultimate/Special, I would not be shocked. If you told me I would believe this before yesterday's reveal, I'd call you a liar.

  • Indie Rep
    This is where it gets interesting.

    See, Nintendo has an interesting relationship with Indie titles, and it's likely why Shovel Knight made it to Assist Trophy, despite Japan's... lack of love for the character. Western fans + pushing indie titles, it makes sense for Nintendo to include him.

    However, there are three Indie titles that Japan funking adores, and only one of them is western.

    The Western Title is Undertale. While I don't think this is the most likely, it's... not out of the question anymore? Japan basically accepted Undertale as its own, and it's one of the most well known indie titles in the world, so I don't think it's impossible. I'd hope for it, but I don't want to bet on something I don't think has a huge shot.

    The next title is a series- Touhou. It's beloved by many in Japan, if not around the world, and it has fighting games of its own... But I think this is the most niche of the three.

    However, the third one is the title I have the most... confidence in. Namely because it is a Japanese Indie Darling.

    Cave Story.

    Quote or Curly Brace being added to Smash seems the most realistic to me. They've seen placement in other fighting games, they would be easy to put into smash (probably an upgrade system similar to Robin's Levin Sword), and I imagine they'd be fairly well received.

    Something of note with all three of these titles is how they stand for just putting your mind to it and making a game. Solo devs, or very close to it, working on titles that they poured their passion into. Hell, Undertale draws heavy inspiration from both of the other two, which means there's something to it that Nintendo has generally been very supportive of.

    Of course, it could be another Indie rep/no Indie at all, but I feel like Nintendo would lean towards giving Indie devs something.

EDIT: Learned new info that cuts out Heihachi and Cave Story... funking hell, that makes me rethink some.

Ah, my b. There were some other posts mentioning them without spoilers so I thought we were good.

Anyways, about 7-8 hours in so far, unlocked 67 characters (including Mii Fighters). I got the rest of my mains and possibly future mains in there, too. Though I felt really bad beating up Isabelle to unlock her...

I don't think anyone said outright who was in. Thats the main thing I want to avoid.

Isabelle was kicking my ass, so I felt no shame. Seriously, the AI can get brutal at times.

[spoiler=unlocking stuff]

I beat Classic mode as samus at least twice and didn't unlock dark samus, so I guess I'll have to try Random character. Sonic definitely is unlocked by Mario and unlocks Bayonetta, but I would like clarification on Dark Samus so I can get Cloud and Wario

I think the "random" path means you need to use the actual "random" character.

Something I saw on the subreddit, make sure your MTU is set right. The Switch's default is 1400 for some reason while most other things are 1500. https://old.reddit.com/r/smashbros/comments/a4cblp/crosspost_psa_you_can_improve_your_internet/

[spoiler=While playing WoL]That Giga Bowser boss fight was scary. Getting some Melee Event 51 PTSD.

[spoiler=DLC character]Joker better have his gun. It's literally a model gun, it's not a Snake situation.

So, to those of you who know the new fighter, I have an interesting question: Each DLC fighter is coming with 1 stage and 5 songs. What's our first one coming in with, do you think?

Did they ever say it was 5, or just that it was going to be music? I don't remember a hard limit for the amount, but could be wrong. Would need to go though the OST for the songs to see which 5 I think are locked. For the stage I'm expecting the 1st one, (think it's a castle, but don't remember) or the casino.

I also feel like the casino is likely for the stage. I already mentioned 3 of the songs I'd want the most, [spoiler=spoiler]though I'd love it if we got Mass Destruction from Persona 3 if they were to add any music from older Persona games.

Also, I'm glad now that I was such an aggressive Smash 4 player, it's definitely a playstyle more suited for this game with all the changes.

[spoiler=The most likely stage imo]

due to how integral it is with the cast of the game (and for potential stage hazards) has got to be the pyramid. not only does it have quite a few ways it could transform, or be implemented, futaba would easily fit in as an assist trophy herself, and the sphinx of her mother would be one of the best/worst stage hazards in the game.

I'm not saying that just because i want the official battle remix of days when my mother was there.

New patch notes: https://www-aaaba-lp1-hac.cdn.nintendo.net/en-US/8aefb3ff/index.html

The improvement to online is nice, though I wish Nintendo would actually give in-depth patch notes for Smash, other Nintendo games don't have this problem. At least they gave us a list of those who were changed, that's an improvement.

That is an impressive combo.

Anyway, slowly working my way through World of Light. Man, I've put an insane amount of time into it already and I still haven't hit 50 fighters. Just did the Dracula fight and holy crap was it hard and a ton of fun. This game is great.

My favorite one so far was the street fighter saga. little mac vs ganondorf in a brute force fight is just pure fun.

Yea, that was really cool. As a huge DKC fan the DKC throw back made me really happy. If you know a lot of history for the franchises represented in Smash World of Light is one reference after another.

That one kinda upset me. Against my better judgement, I was expecting king K.rool to be at the pile of bananas and got more hype as i got closer. Went on to murder diddy kong in a fit of rage.

I dunno how everyone else's experiences are going but I'm loving how improved CPUs are in this game. From what I understand pro players helped develop the AI, and it really shows. They'll do stuff like crazy parrying, foxtrotting, and in general seem much more human.
