Cardfight! Vanguard's getting rebooted. I shit you not.

After G ends, the next anime will be a reboot of the original series, but based on the original manga, even using the manga character designs.

More importantly, the game's getting rebooted. From the looks of it, Stride and Gear Chronicle are gone (though, they're getting continued at least once a year.) We're going back to the old days with the new trials.

But, there's a twist. A lot of twists.

All triggers now grant +10000 Power to units. More importantly, Stand triggers are gone. Now, we have Front Triggers which add +10000 Power to all front row units.

The clans now have attributes, too.

There's also multiple formats now if you want to use your old cards, so they aren't trashing the old stuff.

Also looks like 13000 Power might be the standard for Grade 3s going forward.

And, they've revealed their clan releases

This is the weirdest sheet any game has ever pulled. To be fair, I think I can see why they would go back to square one. They probably couldn't make up a new extra deck mechanic for a new series, and Gyze was pretty much the height you could take Stride, which was the point of his design. He's the show's final boss. So, just pull a Super II Turbo job on the old stuff, I guess.

EDIT: Actually, I just realized that, nostalgia-peddling aside, this is Bushi addressing the issue with the early G era. That is, players preferred the existing Legion-era stuff over the Stride stuff early on. Why use Altmile when Thing Saver was a lot stronger? If they pushed forward with new mechanics, why run the new, weaker stuff when you already have a $500 deck that demolishes them?

This is kinda the argument for having power creep in card games, where if you don't actually power creep stuff no one that cares about winning (the majority of players) will care about the new cards. It's unfortunately a necessary evil for these kinds of games, unless you have something like Magic or Hearthstone where the cards rotate out every so often.

Personally, I watched the anime a long time ago and liked the aspects of making some parts of playing trading card games more realistic, although in Vanguard G they wouldn't explain what the cards do, which just sucked for someone like me who doesn't play the game. I respect the design of the game though, as the mechanics seem pretty cool. The Dimension Police were always the coolest to me but I might be wrong.

I believe me staying with Premium/G Formats will be where I'll be staying.

I've been bonded well with my Gear Chronicle, as that is my ideal clan and it's the one I've been enjoying using ever since it's release, and because of this I don't want to have to do another search to find what clan/playstyle befits me the best. Honestly, I feel that they could've kept Stand Triggers and give the option for Front Triggers. Cause if you think about it, Stand Triggers (least the ways I've seen em) usually are in decks that do multiple attacks like Aqua Force, Dimensional Police, and even Murakumo. That and with the loss of the G-Zone in Standard, we're back to just using Perfect and Quintet Guards...which are meh.

Honestly, the upped power for the Triggers are meh to me. The strong get stronger I suppose...but the newest mechanic, the Imaginary Gift, that's something that I honestly thought was eeeeeehhhh. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's interesting...but I felt it was something that we probably wouldn't have needed right now.

Regardless, this is what is happening now...and if this keeps going, I guess I'll have to wait until they adapt the CF!!V G manga to get more Gear Chronicle support. Upside, for me to play Premium/G Format, all the other GC units I need to make my deck good will most likely be cheap now thanks to the release of these new decks...so that's a plus.

Gear Chronicle will still be getting support, it's just that they won't be getting anime featured support.

These are mainly all fantastic changes to be honest, I'm really stoked about this.

  • 4 weeks later...

Can’t wait to watch that Manga adaptation. Apparently G units were way too expensive, so V standard migt encourage normal people to take part in tournaments. I have to feel sorry for the more competitive players; dropping all dat $$$ on G units just to be funked over by the reboot. Unless Premium becomes popular, those retards are just gonna have to suck it. Spending hundreds on an obscure children’s card game XD rofl
