Lava Golem vs Cosmic Blazar Dragon

Recommended Posts

We have a much more powerful set of cards based around that idea; Kaiju. Kaiju only need 1 Tribute, can SS themselves to your own side of the field if your opponent controls one (i.e. after you've just Summoned one) and have a decent search in the form of the now limited Interrupted Kaiju Slumber and their Field Spell Kyoto Waterfront. In fact, Kaiju are sometimes used as an engine...not that I've seen them recently, but I still use them in my Shinobird Deck.

So yeah, Kaiju (and Lava Golem) can out almost anything, as their SS clause isn't an activating effect, it Tributes before any response can be made, and you choose where it goes and what it Tributes. They can even get over Ultimate Falcon.

Oh wow! I thought that tributing effect was great but I apparently had no idea. I'm running it currently in my gravity bind deck and it works really great but I had no idea that negating it's summon was so difficult. That's amazing. I love Lava Golem even more now lol

Gravity Bind Deck

Imma guess this is casual, but Imma just tell you know that Xyz and much more importantly Link Monsters don't have Levels. You'd be better off running a lot of Solemns and a lot of Mirror Forces, maybe with a side of Swift Scarecrow, Battle Fadar, Swords of Concealing Light, etc. If you go more monster heavy Supply Squad is a good casual option for getting consistent draw power, while Shard of Greed and Reckless Greed can get yourself enough tools to push your opponent off the cliff to insanity with Battle Traps. This is still a casual Deck but its at least casual in a modern sense rather than a 2010 sense.

This is the deck I'm talking about. I've been playing it for quite a while and believe it or not, I really don't have much trouble with non level monsters. They do tend to last 1 or maybe 2 turns longer than others, but they never really cost me the game. The main things that kill me are cards like Blazar that are difficult for me to get around, except of course when I get them Golems going. So sexy.

This is the deck in action if you're curious.

to be presice that "tribute effect" is not an effect. Its a summon condition. Theres not much card in this game that counter nor prevent conditions. in this case especially the ones that that use opponent advantages as its cost. thats why Lava and its much more famous successors Kaijus becomes powerful-necessary villians against meta.

As for your deck i kinda a agree with Eshai here. You probably need to revise your deck against non level decks especially with the importance of Links. Lava Golem is barely as searchable as its Kaijus counterpart making kaijus more effective than Lava even when it only tribute 1 monster by being quicker, searchable, and usable as material for your own summoning in the same turn

I see. How does one determine conditions from effects? It doesn't say on any cards that ending they have in their description is a "condition", all I see is that they are an effect monster and then what the effect is in the description.

Effects have colon/semicolons, which specify activation conditions (of the effect) and costs respectively. Conditions generally just have commas, and are just applied. The exception is when an effect has a HOPT "You can only use this effect of this card's name once per turn." afterwards instead of a "Once per turn:" and/or a cost beforehand, but even then you generally have a "During the Main Phase:" on official cards to specify this.

If it helps you, summon conditions (stated above that dont have colon/semcolons), specify in a parenthesis from the monster is to be summoned.

Ex. You can Special Summon this card/Must be Special Summoned (from "insert location") - Summon Condition

Special Summon this card from "insert location" - Activated effect

This doesnt apply for cards printed (and with no reprint since 2012)

Tribute is most of the times a cost, so even if something like lava golem or kaijus summons were going by activations, unaffected monster will still go (I might be wrong)
