Introducing: Free Card Design

Flash Flyer - Sakura

Recommended Posts

I intend for this thread to be a basic introduction to the new area and how things are to work out.

[spoiler=Why now]
Many of you wanted Casual Cards to be completely changed to a free-for-all and I didn't wish to do so, given the work put into shaping up the area since taking over. I have relaxed many of the restrictions in Casual, but there are still some minor restrictions on how you can post cards and respond to them. I want Casual to be opening to new members, but I also wish to have it open for users who'd like to post decent cards and get more than a 1-2 word reply to their stuff.

However, you may consider this section as a compromise.

(I had been thinking about this for a good while, but just had to figure out how to best implement it without dramatically altering the section. Also, I really did have lab reports and examinations to take care.)

What is "Free Design"?

A revamping of the Joke and Overpowered Cards section.

Instead of marginalizing terrible design cards to that one place in Custom Cards that doesn't show up on the index and locking post count (as it currently is), you guys will be allowed to post designs freely and get post count / points for it.

Also, stuff from here will show up on the index page.

(Credit to Dova for the name; otherwise I was going to name it anything goes after the Showdown tier [even though that is an accurate indicator])

====

Those of you wondering "where's the Joke Card forum, then?", it's been archived and moved as a subsection to this one. You can still view the section and any threads in there, but you cannot post/edit stuff in there.

====

What is permitted here?

As this is technically the new version of Joke & OP'd cards, whatever you were posting in there up until now is also fair game for this section.

Design standards are off, so you are free to go wild in this section in terms of posting cards (with exceptions).

If you wanted to make cards with 9999/9999 stats or absurd effects, make meme jokes about existing cards in relation to social media or really anything at all, now you can without getting stigmatized.

Additionally, for those of you from the MyBB / early IP.Boards era and recall member cards; you also get to post them here too. Think of them as simply Custom Cards based explicitly on a user.

(I would post an old example, but you guys know YCM's image functions are still busted.)

Post count and point gain.

Post count is ENABLED for this section, but the point gain will be reduced compared to the rest of the site. You will still receive some points, but just not a whole lot.

If I remember correctly, you'll get 10 points for making a thread and 5 for just replying.

Rules

I shall have a defined rulebook for this section later, but compared to Casual and Advanced, it will be much shorter (well, there's less technical things I have to write). Because this section will have post count enabled, there has to be some regulations.

Definitives are as follows.

1. General site rules (for most part).

You all know these are self-explanatory and have to be obeyed.

2. Very minimal post requirement.

Probably on the lines of "don't post only emotes and reaction images" for a reply in here; actually have some text words. I just don't want you guys posting only emotes / reaction pics like some people do on social media (including Discord).

At best, just compliment or rate and you'll be fine.

3. Only 1 topic every 15 minutes.

I am open to lowering / dropping this limitation if needed, however I don't want this place to be flooded within 10-20 minutes.

There is no restriction to REPLIES, however just don't post solely emotes and be done.

4. Restrictions on cards

These are the same as the rest of CC.

No posting cards with explicit gore, adult content (sexual content in all forms; including animals) and so forth. Additionally, cards that are provocative towards another user, ethnicity, religion, etc are also forbidden.

Naming-wise, no referencing adult content or incendiary remarks towards another user, ethnic group, etc.

5. Bumping

For regular bumping, I'm probably setting it at 6-8 hours given the anticipated increased traffic compared to the other areas. But I can't really give a definitive period because I just opened this place today.

As to what is considered a necro, probably 30 days but again, let's see how it turns out before making a definitive. Creator bumping can be 3 months / 90 days, but I suspect this will be mostly for member card threads or some other group things.

Right now, 30 days for general stuff and 90 days for creator bump w/updates (this will be subject to change depending on how activity goes).

6. No "post your card here" threads

If members want to post their stuff, they can make their own threads for it. Exceptions can be made for group projects, but will be dealt with as they come.

This is intended to be an ongoing discussion considering the section is still new and likely going to change often in the foreseeable future.

Any input on how you guys feel about the section or certain policies that should be in here is greatly appreciated.

(At the time of posting this thread, all posting rights have been enabled to members so...have fun!)

Just noticed the warning in big red font at the front of the sub-section Why metagame discussion is discouraged? What if someone posts a gem in this section and I want to approach it from a metagame standpoint? I find it a bit ironic since as the "Free design" sub-section I would expect that anything goes, and yet that's not the case.

Sorry for the late response.

As you probably know already, idea of Free Card Design was for members to get an area to post whatever they'd like without being bound to the usual design standards that Casual and Advanced are required to be held to. That, and freedom of commenting without having to talk about the metagame or card mechanics, etc.

While talking about the metagame isn't forbidden in here, try to minimize it (or at least don't go into the full-depth analyses that you would give in Advanced). Most members who will likely post here either do not play competitively or even care about it thereof. Granted, members getting comments and shouldn't blow up about it, but idea of the section is to promote a more relaxed environment.

Otherwise, if you guys keep commenting the same way like in Advanced or Casual, then what's the point of having a separate section? Granted, that may be caused by both of the other areas being bound by the same standards in reviewing for three years, though that's a discussion for elsewhere.

Right now, the section isn't getting as much activity as I had expected (there's several possible causes), so it is hard to tell who will be the major contributors to this section. But yeah, just don't go all out like in the other areas if you do find the need to talk about the competitive game.

We'd like to not scare off newer members who aren't adept in the current era of this game.

I see. I read it as outright forbidding any kind of competitive or "serious" talk about cards. I figured that even if the card maker isn't interested in the metagame, he/she would be glad to know if its card was actually competitive.
