Mods not allowed to be invisible

Recommended Posts

Unless Broken's been using invisible, Sakura is indeed the only invisible mod. This was something that got discussed before, and if memory serves, we never really got a definitive verdict from the team in favor of or against it. It seems unnecessary as a full-blown rule if literally one mod is using the invisible mode (this even includes Birdie in the event that she does get readded to the mod team), and if it isn't a rule so much as a suggestion, nobody has to stop using it, so mods that would otherwise use it will probably just keep using invisible mode. In short, with the current lineup the mod team has, this proposition is doomed to fail one way or the other, even if I think it's a good policy to have.

Nah, I made a big point out of when black and then candidate Giga were invsible. A mod should be very assessible when online and being invisible doesn't mesh with that. Sakura is the only one who never took the hint. Any other tin foil conspiracies Roxas?

Except Black doesn't use invisible mode now that he's a mod, and Giga isn't one so there's no difference whether he uses it or not. Unless there's some game-changing information I'm missing out on, this argument is invalid.

Black listened. Sakura didn't. I want it made clear to future mods that it's not something to be encouraged. Roxas's is building a strawman here where he is attempting to paint any policy in terms of Sakura to sink them. Smart of him, but neither of you have mentioned merits against the rule?

I don't believe an overgeneralization is helping your case. I am criticizing one policy you are offering because I do not believe this comes from a place of good faith.

And I did mention merits against the rule, in that I don't believe it even needs to be a rule. There is not a sufficient enough reason to make this an ironclad rule, as the vast majority of the team, save for one exception, have taken the initiative to keep their activity public without there needing to be a rule. The onus is not on us to challenge your argument, or to justify why mods should be allowed to remain invisible. You made this thread, so you can take the time to provide more reasons for why this must be a rule.

I have suggested 2 things

(1) Shrinking the team, which you dishonestly made it seem like was just based on Sakura despite you, vcr, and I talking about a number of other mods just a page before

(2) Now you're attempting to make it seem like this is all about sakura, when I made multiple efforts to get Black and other potential mods to confirm to it too.

You have attacked both using Sakura as a human shield. In a local sense, I'm not exaggerating.

Mods should be accessible to the user, and skulking around invisible isn't conducive to that objective. It defeats the point of Tormey's mod online addition. Furthermore, the last time anyone tried to defend being invisible, Dad, they misunderstood the term as being inactive. So not a lot of merit on your side.

Saying something  vastly popular doesn't need to be a rule because 95% of the population does follow it, but 5% doesn't is counter intuitive. That sort of scenario is exactly why rules are made so a minority cannot take advantage of a majority.

If you feel the need to further advocate for Sakura when that's not the relevant point here at all, if Sakura has a compelling reason to be invisible, I'm sure he can put that forward and an exemption can be carved out for him

That's a different topic.

Because Sakura is the only mod this is presently an issue with. If such a rule were to be implemented, only a single person would need to change in compliance with the rule, when Sakura's privacy setting was raised as an example of why people find Sakura to be unreliable for communication.

Mods should be accessible to the user, and skulking around invisible isn't conducive to that objective. It defeats the point of Tormey's mod online addition. You seem to be conflating my disagreement over this suggestion with me arguing for the merits of remaining invisible, so to prevent further confusion, I will speak plainly and say that I agree that mods should be visible. What I disagree with is making that a hard and fast rule.

I do not believe that Sakura would be taking advantage of a majority, if that is the scenario you are suggesting. It seems more that because of one person's mistakes, a rule must then be implemented, which other people must then abide by, despite this having not been much of an issue except with that one person.

If you feel the need to further advocate for Sakura when that's not the relevant point here at all, if Sakura has a compelling reason to be invisible, I'm sure he can put that forward and an exemption can be carved out for him

No, I'm not advocating for Sakura, so if you are assuming that is my position, then I will clarify. I believe that, since Sakura is the only one who would have to actually change in accordance with the rule, that speaks less to a necessity for this rule, and more towards the grievances that people have with Sakura. It's a concern about a particular individual, rather than the larger issue you are making it out to be.

Rather than a rule, I think this is something that should only be strongly encouraged

I don't. I think it should be a rule.

I agree to the original terms of the opening post. Mods should be accessible. Changing names, being invisible, and other bullshittery runs counter to that and should not be allowed to happen.

And doesn't this concern only apply to Sakura? So this only seems like a rule you're asking for solely to further attack Sakura.

I don't know who Sakura is but if she's funking up and not being accessible and not being accountable it sounds like a big funking problem. Modship should be a leadership position, so start leading and stop cowering.

I'm going to be blunt about this.

Reason why I used invisible mode is due to checking this place at times where I am either multi-tasking (such as in class) or doing other things and not an appropriate time to answer inquiries (such as late at night before I go to sleep). Even if I do not show up online, I am usually online to answer questions. Only times I will not be around is during college hours or morning - mid-afternoon on weekends because I work and have other commitments (or I have lack of internet).

[Also need it for event reasons, such as the egg thing that will be coming up later in the week. That's about it.]

I respond to PMs right away, so if I'm not here / available at the time, then actually message me and I'll reply when I am able to.

===

Why I showed up as invisible earlier was me checking this place late at night with the mode enabled on PC before I went to sleep (without clearing cookies). The invisible mode is disabled on the computer I am writing this from, but the settings do not transfer over.

I got nothing to hide from any of you.

Just to clear things up, I'm not female.

All I can say is I agree that it makes sense not to be invisible as a mod.

Also Sakura, it's fine to be online but not answer something right away as long as you do get to it. I get the worry but I think people would be more understanding of "Sometimes I'm checking while at school can't respond".

Also Pika lurks they wouldn't have any idea about your gender. :P

Yes, Sakura should be held accountable. At least he was finally demoted to a regular mod, unless that had happened earlier.

…Okay, even I don't buy any of that as an excuse. If it's not an appropriate time to be answering inquiries, it's not like you need to be private. And if you're at school, I think the higher priority is that your instructor wouldn't want to see you on the forum, rather than the forum not seeing that you're at school.

The issue is that you seem to be constantly private, so there is never any guarantee that you will answer questions, let alone even look at them. Even if you are busy, it leaves the community thinking that have absolutely no interest in communicating with them whatsoever. And I don't think many people will care that you needed it for the event last this week, because this has been an issue people have had with you for months, so you don't get to hide behind "Oh, there's an Easter Egg event where I need to be private."

From what I've gathered in some of the complaints threads, you don't respond to PM's right away. While you were quick in responding to me, I am not going to assume that how quickly you responded to me is the same for anyone else. It's nice that you're finally Public at this time, but could you keep it at that after the event?

Really just dropping in to say that, as someone who prefers to be invisible, it does suck to come online without replying to a PM air pressing matter... but I haven’t gotten any flack about it.

its easy to just glance and leave. I did it a lot at work, and it keeps me abreast of what’s going on for when I get a chance TO address things.
